  1. This is the master icon: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\DefaultIcon] @=hex(2):25,53,79,73,74,65,6d,52,6f,6f,74,25,5c,45,78,70,6c,6f,72,65,72,2e,65,\ 78,65,2c,30,00(It says @=%systemroot%\Explorer.exe,0) Check if there's something in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER...]{the rest is the same as above}. It shouldn't be, unless you've customized desktop icons and/or used some theme Check both [HKLM/HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ShellIconOverlayIdentifiers] - if there is anything and post it here. Check both [HKLM/HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons]/{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}=0 Check whether [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer] "Max Cached Icons"="4096" is big enough, I'd say at least "512". Delete %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\Sp0iLedBrAt\Local Settings\Application Data\IconCache.db REBOOT IMMEDIATELY GL *Edit: One more place: %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\Sp0iLedBrAt\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\Themes\Custom.theme < edit with Notepad if necessary, but customizing desktop should be enough.
  2. Here's what I used some time ago on such a machine: IE30sp1 OperaWin362_16bit Arachne170 Don't remember the specifics why and from where... GL
  3. Alongside security updates, we get new skins, new bugs, everything is turned upside down, many old things don't work... Sounds just like Windows. GL
  4. I confirm I see the same thing with many other topics (I'll post screenshots if needed), plus there are other issues with "View New Content": - If I post in a topic, it doesn't get listed in "View New Content". If the list is chronological, it should be listed, shouldn't it? - The timeout is too small. I.e. if there are three pages of "New Content", until I read some (all) on the first page, when I click on Page 2 or 3, it shows as a single page (and mangled - not chronological at all, from what I can make of it). - If I manage to get through all pages, when I click on 1 again, the "read" topics aren't marked as such and there is no clear line of separation what's new and what's not - it's just like I enter "View New Content" now for the first time. It seems "View New Content" is pretty chaotic right now, to say the least. Unfortunately I use it exclusively during my daily visits, so I hope it gets fixed. GL
  5. It seems locked, but it isn't. The mouse wheel gets deactivated. PageUp and PageDown don't work (at least after you get to the bottom). Like something is constantly 'pushing' the page downwards. The close tab button took a long time and it was frozen then - the only time I saw increased CPU usage. I also have enormous HOSTS file so it might be blocking something. I turned off cookies. GL
  6. From different folders? I don't think so (but I've never tried). @gip: See this topic. You don't need to add them all, some of them can be installed later. For Realtek, I agree with -X-. GL
  7. Actually, I do. The icons are so tiny, and I have fairly small screen resolution. I can only imagine what it would look like on bigger screen. Maybe make them bigger? (If others agree and if possible). Thanks. GL
  8. Cosmetics: If possible, please move the word "Sticky:" after the little icon "go to new post" so that all those icons are aligned vertically? For me, it's a matter of usability: I hold Ctrl+Shift and then click on the icons of topics of interest to open them in new tabs. Currently, it's a zig-zag motion and a lot of visual searching. GL
  9. It's a filter for opening Works files. The file it actually contains is: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\TextConv\WORKS632.CNVI checked, I have it installed on my system (xp x86), but through Administrative Installation Point of Office 2003. There's something weird with that update - the .msp inside, when unpacked with Universal Extractor, doesn't resolve the above mentioned filename but a longer one. That's not an error, just a different Windows Installer option or something, but I suppose it can create issues with direct installation. Since it's not an important update, I suggest you skip it altogether, if you can. *edit: maybe it's failing simply because the file isn't present on your computer (deselected through custom install options or win7 was "smart" enough to disallow it for whatever reason). Another question is, is Office 2003 supposed to work on Win7 x64 and/or if there are some limitations (with Microsoft support or otherwise)... I don't know the answer, I hope someone else will respond who does. I just observed, from the age of the offered updates, that maybe you don't have service pack for office installed. That would be the first step I would do, even better if slipstreamed (if your version of Office allows creation of administrative install point). *edit2: I was blind, I didn't see it installed SP3. But still creating a slipstreamed install point would be a better solution (less chances of screwups), although if Office works, and updates fail, I wouldn't bother if I don't have enough time to tinker. GL
  10. Hi and welcome, Please attach (don't paste) your Last Session.ini (as seen in the red letters above ). Only Last Session.ini please and don't paste it. GL
  11. Hi donixa, First about the BASE: it does absolutely nothing except for integrating a theme. I don't have much experience with themes, but I have a few thoughts: - The theme name and filename differ. I don't know if it's allowed and/or intended. - I'm not sure if x64 can/should be UXTheme-patched... - It's done on Vista/7, which might bring problems for some setups... - There is no reason to do it in two steps (which I'm sure you know also brings unexpected problems sometimes). About the second: It's pretty well done, nothing stands out. What I wouldn't remove (minor things unrelated to your issues): - Jet Database Engine (way too many programs need it under the hood, but if you're sure, it's OK) - HTTP SSL (I'm not sure about this, but I would err on the side of caution if I'd ever want to go to the Internet ) - CleanBiosInfo (if you can find it in Nlite's GUI, it's worded differently; it can break windows activation and I've never even tried to remove it; you might get away with it, but please be absolutely sure...) - Maybe, just maybe, try another unattended mode, although that shouldn't be the reason for your issues (I can't see right now which one is 1 - I'd have to fire up Nlite and go all the way through it; I use 5) I think that the main reason for your issues is the bad/unclean/double-processed-on-diferent-OSes source. GL
  12. Hi and welcome, I don't think it can be installed without High Definition Audio class driver, but I might be wrong or there might be a workaround... GL
  13. How do you mean? At that time, O&O Defrag was better for me (faster, more efficient, low on resources, developed for a long time - so less theoretical chances for bugs... and indeed I didn't encounter a single one). Ultimate Defrag was new when I tried it and didn't offer much besides the flashy circle and tricks like the one described in the thread. I'm sure they've ironed it by now, but I stopped using both, so I don't know which one is currently better. I also encountered a bug at that time (UD version 1.XX), where a directory vanished on me (the first one alphabetically on C:/). Twice. Never reported it or done anything about it, just uninstalled the program. GL
  14. There were some divided opinions in the past, to put it mildly. I hope they improved. Me too, until they introduced their orb. That was not the problem, increased resource usage at other places was. Nevertheless, at that time, I would still chose it over UltimateDefrag. Now, I don't know - depends who made greater progress relative to each other, if any... GL
  15. Going strictly by file version number, KB2286198 replaces PARTIALLY KB971029 (replaces Shell32.dll, Shsvcs.dll stays), both on XP and Server2003. GL
  16. Yes you can. Install office, then your MUI / LIP and switch languages with: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\SETLANG.EXE Or did you have something else in mind? GL
  17. It is a mirror driver for TightVnc. Link. GL * edit: not enough coffeine (and I had plenty, believe me)
  18. Well, hopefully that's about to change. GL
  19. I often see "new content" expired too soon - when I finish reading one page worth of replies, the next one says 'no new content' (but initially 3 or more pages were listed). I thought it was my Opera... poor thing, I blame it for everything. GL
  20. I'm not familiar with that RegHack, but I suspect it would have to do something with this: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ProductOptions] "ProductType"="???" "ProductSuite"=hex(???):??? You will need to look up the ???s at a real Workstation. That's because it is one of the paths allowed to be read remotely, defined in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\winreg\AllowedExactPaths I don't guarantee horrible things won't happen if you edit this at will. GL
  21. Really nice app. I always wondered how come nobody created something practical that dealt with this and other cryptic registry values (StuckRects2, ShellState, CabinetState, SmoothMouseXCurve, PowerPolicies...) in an easy and humanly understandable way. TweakUI has some of it, but not all. Maybe idea for your next app? BTW, it matches my calculated value from years ago when there wasn't so much information to be found on Internet. If you're curious, it's 30 00 00 80. Svaka čast! GL
  22. A huge air conditioner outside - Drivin' me crazy. And no, it's not a band. GL
  23. I used this for my SIS Mirage graphics on XP (in other words, that's the driver). Just in case the url doesn't get pasted right (or SIS sometimes changes the URL), it is "SiS UniVGA3 graphics driver". Unfortunately, no mention of Vista in the readme.txt, but it might work... maybe. GL
  24. This is unpacked incorrectly (some .jpegs are truncated). Verified with install VS unpack. UE 1.6.1 says it's NullSoft Installer installer. It's using Install Explorer. Previously, with whatever unpacked NSIS, it was OK. GL
  25. There is no simpler way, because there's nothing in the registry. It's in the tcpip.sys file itself. GL
