This would be the first thing that i would fix, sure it might be working right, but having ram running at different frequencies in the machine with play havoc with I/O for the machine. try taking the slower 533 ram and see if that helps. best option would be to pick up a 800 mhz 2 gig or 4 gig pack of memory (2 at the minimun!)

DFS is an excellent way to share multiple folders across multiple machines from a single UNC path... not sure if this is what you are looking for

another thing to look at is the media you are installing vista with, did you use the same DVD for each installation, do you have access to a technet or MSDN account where you could get the ISO to build another DVD?

To anwser your question, no. Vlite would the only way to remove dreamscene from the installation of vista. I agree with you, but people have griped for years when they had to put in there windows CD to install X function and app, Microsoft finally fixed that issue and now people complain that windows take up too much space by doing that exact thing.... i use a 64 gig SSD for work as well and even though it is 70% used, it really isn't such a big deal, i have growth room and i am not impacting preformance. it is also still easy to expand space and have an external HD as well (which truly is not a bad idea for all your personal or important docs) but that is just my 2 cents

how is the internet coming into your office? (T1, DSL, Cable?) the router will have to have port 80 forwarded to the internal IIS Server. The IIS box should have a static IP on your internal network so that you can create Host Header records for the site in question.

.Net Framework should be installed by default for Vista. are you trying to add or remove .NET 3.0?

buying the DVD is the only legit way of doing this, i would hesitate to ever use something that was downloaded from the internet (unless it was from technet or MS download site).

if you really went with a beefy box, doing SBS server 2008 or 2008 standard w/Hyper V would be a great route (though it would require some heavy migration work)

but the cisco switches is not supporting the voice lan whatever phoens is connected to this switches it dosn't get any signal. that why connect the voice to HP switches supporting POE systems. if it is the case that all your phone devices are hooked to your HP switch, is this device capable of managing and creating Vlans? it not can it handle a DHCP relay agent? both options would allow you to segment all items on that switch to a single vlan or in the case of the relay agent a second sbunet range.

my first thought would be to verify that the modem is actually supported by vista, were you able to find vista compatible drivers for it (just because they installed doesn't mean they are compatible). on there site it lists as vista compatible, thought the drives they have listed are for 98 2000 etc..

Tripredacus is right, why do you have 2 scopes on a single segment? is there a reason you need to know the different IP's for the phones vs machines? if you truly wanted to segment data and voice, Vlans would be an option through your cisco swtiches using a DHCP relay agent to route your dhcp requests back to the correct Vlans.

if you try and ping www.google.com what happens, verify that the DNS client service is running on the machine

Verify what your rating is in computer properties. You might have to rerun the ratings test to score high enough to enable aero. There are no switches or reg keys to enable this anymore.

2008 Server can be added to a 2000 Forest or Domain, once you have updated ALL your DC's you could migrate to a 2003 domain and forest (no reason to go to 2008 yet (at least at the forest level)

there are ways to backup your activation files, but this will only help you on restoring that machine. If too much of the Computer has changed (ie motherboard/CPU/Video card) activation would fail.
