  1. Norton is natorious for causing PC slowness and lockup issues, i would remove it and choose another AV vendor, the only way you could do worse is go with mcafee. As for the original question. *current* PC hardware has little to no issues running 64-bit systems. probably 99% of your software will run on a 64-bit system. Wether or not you see a improvement in speed will depend on the applications you are using. I made the jump to 64 bit about 2 months after SP1 came. I have been very happy with the results so far. at this point i can only think of 2 applications i would love to see run in 64 bit move, (Visual Studios and Sony Vegas) other then that i have been more then happy with the results.
  2. Pretty sweet, USMT has been intergrated into the build, now with new hardlink goodness (data stays where it is on the disk while an upgrade happing on the disk) saves a whole lot of time.
  3. MDT 2010 is also available http://blogs.technet.com/msdeployment/
  4. most likely you are going to have to wait for drivers to be released before you will be able to use windows 7
  5. I think this is what you are looking for There are a number of registry keys located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU that control the automatic update agent. The first of these keys is the AUOptions key. This DWORD value can be assigned a value of either 2, 3, 4, or 5. A value of 2 indicates that the agent should notify the user prior to downloading updates. A value of 3 indicates that updates will be automatically downloaded and the user will be notified of installation. A value of 4 indicates that updates should be automatically downloaded and installed according to a schedule. For this option to work, the ScheduledInstallDay and ScheduledInstallTime keys must also be set. I will talk more about those keys later on. Finally, a value of 5 indicates that automatic updates are required, but can be configured by end users. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/articles_...date-Part1.html

  9. anything from the microsoft partner progam is not re-sellable, i am willing to bet those CD's are from a Action Pack and were ment for demo purposes only.
  10. this would be sysprep running on the machine again, it should finish and bring you back to the desktop once it is completed.
  11. are you sure an unattend file was not built into the ISO you download?
  12. the problem you are going to run into is the that is you allow pass through on internet connection on Domain A (your domain you logon too) to domain B (your VM domain) you VM machines are going to have to have IP address that are valid on the subnet of Domain A, with a valid gateway on Domain A. to make htis work will have to configure a Vm to have 2 NICs, one that is connected to your Domain A (with a 172.16.x.x IP) and another with a (10.1.10.x). using Routing and Remote Access (NPS in 2008 i believe) you can use this machine as a switch from Domain A to Domain B, please note by doing this, your domain B related requests and queries will be able to be captured and view from domain A. be careful to either restrict traffic going to Domain A or you will run into complications that 2 different domains are communicating with each other.
  13. I understand, but like i said, the 2003 EMC will not intergrate with the 2008 ADUC mmc, they are not coded to intergrate properly.
  14. pNot, The 2003 exchange console will not intergrate correctly into the 2008 or vista ADUC mmc, the design is different and 2003 exchange intergration was not put in. though it could be a great excuse to go to exchange 2007!
  15. is this a single domain/ single forest topology? are there any other DNS servers setup in this for domain?
  16. i am not sure the software was made to allow internet access, for this to work at all you would have to bridge your internet connection to the bluetooth adapter. I am not sure if that is even possible though. (never tried before) connecting up to the internet over bluetooth would be amazingly slow though, wouldn't a wireless router be a better solution?
  17. http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windowsvi...rogram-cpp.aspx For the whole article.
  18. The HD will also definately be a bottle neck for you, 5400 rpm's are very slow, if possible look for a 7200 RPM drive replacement (or Solid state disk if you are feeling lucky )
  19. To get the best out of your machine we first need to know the specs for it, every you can tell us would better allow us to help find the root cause for the machine's slowness
  20. here is great way to create some logs and figure out what is going, http://www.petri.co.il/analyze-windows-performance-logs.htm
  21. grab the model number of the CD-burner in question, check the web to see if there is a firmware upgrade available for the device
  22. 99% of BSOD on installs a mass storage drivers.... if you catch a glimpse of 07B in the error, then you know it is something with the mass storage driver for you machine
  23. have you seen the same behavior on a XP install? has this worked properly in the past? both sets of drivers should work without issue, there is the chance that the HW is going bad?
  24. downloaded, but still extracting the files (after making space for its hugeness)
