Your probably trying to place a dual-layer dvd into a single-layer reader...

Right click on the title bar of the Command Prompt... and the click Defaults... then on the tabs, click Colors, and change the colours to what you want it to be... and then click OK... Close and Re-Open Command Prompt and ta-dah !!

Some Scanners have API Functions built into them... You'll have togo onto the manufacturers site and try and find a developers document or something... Not much help, but yeah...
