  1. Where can I download the patch to restore power? Doesn't seem to be one on Microsofts site...
  2. looks to me like someone has broken the internet. wasn't me guvnah, I was out at the time. anyone got a yellow pages? I'll look for an internet repair man......
  3. I think it's the hot weather, it always seems to bring the odd ones out.....
  4. hmm, and MS expect us to trust AntiVirus solutions they've had a hand in...... doesn't bode well if you ask me if they can't even patch their own flaws successfully. i think the 16th will be a Linux day for me...
  5. Just curious, isn't it time for a change of front page poll? The "Microsoft buying RAV" one seems to have been there for quite some time now. No, no idea what to ask next. Just a suggestion!
  6. Speaking as an over 30, my Mrs is quite happy when I'm on the pc, 'cos it means I'm not sitting there criticising her favourite tv programs while she's trying to watch them. Although, I do remember my mum and dad telling me to go outside and play, while I was determined to complete Manic Miner on the ZX Spectrum. I later found out that they wanted me to go out and play so as they could play Scrabble on the Speccy! Ha, well, no more - now, where's that Spectrum emulator I had.......
  7. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to Longhorn, but only when it reaches a reasonable - beta? - build. What I don't get is everyone getting so excited by the current versions, horrible flaky alpha things with features not yet implemented or just seemingly tacked on without refinement (hello, winFS!). It will be interesting to see what the beta builds contain, compared with the throw-all-the-bits-together-and-see-what-happens nature of the current alphas. 6 months time, yeah, I'll be well excited about LH, but now? If I want an OS that crashes at the drop of a hat, I'll go back to Win95. If I want bloatware, hello WinME. For now? I'll stick to XP.It does what I want, most of the time, and if thats not a Minor Microsoft Miracle, I don't know what is. (btw, especially for grunge, I'm sure the group will all chip in to buy you this - sorry mate, couldn't find a braincell on ebay to keep yours company )
  8. jeez, some people, i don't know. maybe this will help
  9. Why all the fuss over Longhorn? A buggy, unstable alpha release of an OS just shouldn't be so popular. I don't remember everyone getting excited over neptune (win2k precursor), or half as excited over whistler, even when that reached beta, so why now? Sure, once LH reaches beta I'll be back - i had 3638 and 4008 -, but the sheer excitement and publicity over ridiculously early builds makes me shake my head like the old-timer I'm slowly but surely becoming. I just think people are getting a little over excited too early, god only knows what the final builds will look like and contain when compared to the ones around now. I am interested in seeing things early, of course - hence 3638 which was downloaded on a 56k modem! - but it just seems to have gotten a little out of hand. Personally, I blame this "internet" thing for getting everyone all excited. Maybe they should shut the 'net after, say, 10.30pm (like uk tv used to), and just show a test card or something. Whaddya reckon then folks? Is there too much hype over LH? Or am I just missing the point?
  10. <quote>"We schedule the release on the 3rd of October 2003 hopefully by then all beta testers will have and you can freely distribute to friends and family..."</quote> "all beta testers will have"? will have what? learned a little grammar? anyway, it's not what bill gates told me in the pub the other night..........
  11. Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Apache/1.3.27 Server at broadband.optusnet.com.au Port 80 was all I got, nothing else - same under XP and Linux. Try this JavaTester, see what the java on this page does, it's worked fine for me.
  12. Don't tell me, tell microsoft update, they're the ones pushing the 44.03 via windowsupdate
  13. Yeah, talk is/was that LH will require a DirectX 9 capable video card, and a minimum spec - if I remember correctly (which isn't guaranteed!) - of an 800Mhz processor. Couple of mates in the components trade reckon the word is that LH is going to be a Windows95, time-to-upgrade-your-hardware sort of release. It's to push along sales of new hardware as well as the OS, which hasn't really happened since Win95 was released, and those old 3- and 486's just weren't up to the task any more. So, in short ( ) no, tokyodrifter, I don't think it will run for you. Or at least not very well.
  14. I've had no problems under 2k3 Server Standard using the Sun j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586-i package, maybe worth trying that one if you're currently using a different release.
  15. good work gamehead, thats a handy little proggy. cheers man!
  16. It's actually the latest (44.03) Detonators that are WHQL certified, so it only pops up if you use non-certified drivers. I d/l'd them out of curiosity, when it mithered me about it while using 44.90 dets.
  17. Happy birthday FthrJACK, & best of luck with the new job
  18. I didn't even know it existed, so if there's many more like me, no wonder it's disappeared

    NEWSFLASH

Newsflash - Earthquake in Rhyl NEWSFLASH A major earthquake measuring 6.5 in the Richter scale hit in the early hours of Monday July 3rd 2003. The epicentre was Rhyl. Victims were seen wandering aimlessly muttering things like "Facking mental", "innit" and "cant". The earthquake decimated the area causing approximately £30 worth of damage. 3 areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed, many locals were woken well before their giros had arrived. Rhyl News reported that hundreds were confused and bewildered with the fact that something interesting had happened in Rhyl. One resident, Tracy Sharon Smith, a fifteen-year-old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock, little Chardonnay Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest 2, Tyler Morgan and Britney slept through it all. I was still shaking while I was watching Trisha the next morning. It's a bad picture now as my sky dish is wonky, I'd get it fixed but won't be able to afford me Lambert & Butler Lights so I'll have to watch it like that." Apparently though looting, muggings, and car crime carried on as normal. The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4000 crates of Sunny Delight in to the area along with 20,000 packets of soverign cigarettes to help the stricken locals. Rescue workers are still sifting through the rubble and have found large quantities of personal belongings including benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos, crow bars, seringes, lock picks, power tools with the serial numbers ground off and several pieces of bone china from Poundstretcher. How can you help? This appeal is to raise money for food and clothing parcels for the unfortunate people of Rhyl. Clothing is most sought after. Items most needed are: Burberry baseball caps (or Fila) Kappa tracksuit tops (his and hers), shell suits (female), white sports socks, Nike Air Max trainers (or anything else usually sold at the indoor market). Food parcels accepted are: microwave meals, tins of baked beans, ice cream, and cans of Colt 45 or Special Brew lager. Your contribution counts! 22p will buy a biro for filling in claim forms £3 will buy 8 cans of "ACE" or budget lager from Asda £4 will buy 50gram pouch of smuggled tobacco from the Lorne pub £5 buys chips, crisps and fizzy blue drinks for a family of 9 £10 will send them on a Sun newspaper family break in October £99 will get a family's sky dish and receiver replaced Thank you for your support!
  20. Hi all, does anyone know of a site that carries clips of 70's uk tv adverts? I'm particularly after the Smash advert (where they all lie on their backs kicking their feet), and - even a still image would do - of the adverts for Rizla cigarette papers. I tried tvark, (or was it arktv? anyway...) but gave up with the navigation, couldnt find what I was looking for, so anyone have any suggestions? Apart from shut up and grow old gracefully, that is
  21. Hur hur, were you feeling proud 'cos it was filmed in Runcorn? Never watched a full episode, watched a bit of one ( I think) to have a laugh at Leslie Ash's lips I say bring back The Sweeney
  22. Hiya supergurl21! Er, can I ask whereabouts I change the member title? I'm in >my profile, there doesn't seem to be anywhere to change it, just ICQ/AOL/Yahoo/MSN identity boxes, d.o.b., website, location and interests. Also, I didn't want to stay on 13 posts for too long (I'm not superstitious, never have been, touch wood )
