  1. well yeah, but - pleasing on the eye, aren't they? fine looking young ladies..... try the video with the sound turned down and a nice bit of black sabbath playing.... :punk: :excited:
  2. Aw, I thought RoboLab was like RoboCop, but with a labrador - "Half Dog, Half Robot - RoboLab is here to foul up the streets..."
  3. Hmm, I didn't notice MS making a fuss when the MSN Messenger 6 beta(s) made it on to the web - let's be honest, it gave them more publicity and attention than they could ever have bought. They may view Longhorn differently though, as it's only in the alpha stage and bugs/features seen now may be detrimental to opinions of the finished product (should it ever be finished, that is....). And, of course, messenger is free and no doubt LH will have a hefty price tag.... As it stands, apart from curiosity/noseiness, there's no good reason to download it now, but it's widely available on the file sharing networks should you wish to waste a partition on it. As for the legality of it, my personal opinion of it is that if people are using it out of curiosity at home then there shouldn't be a problem. Sort of free alpha/beta testing for MS - I'm **** sure someone at Redmond has a little peek on the net to see what peoples opinions of it are, what folks like and don't like, and what the general level of interest is. Me, I'm awaiting the knock of the bowl-chopped banshee any day now....
  4. www.pcnextday.co.uk are quite good, some bits cheaper than others.
  5. Sorry mate, looks like it's just you! I can sign in to all my hotmail accounts, and msn works no probs. Remember, just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not out to get you...........
  6. Well, if nothing else, Van Damme could always get work at his local B&Q - he's so wooden, he'd blend in with the sheds a treat
  7. WindowsUpdate works fine for 98se. I just updated the Mrs.' work pc yesterday, just use the "windows update" button in IE's tools menu, and await the deluge of updates.
  8. if you have no luck with the supplied/proprietary driver(s), have a look at www.dscaler.com. it's an open source tv card tool that bypasses your o/s and goes straight to the card. i haven't used it personally, but i know people who have and they recommend it. may be worth a try.
  9. Hmm, i'll go for, 5400. i can always come back and edit this message if i'm wildly wrong although, someone in the ms n/g's said each app will have a different build number - and looking at my office xp that seems to be true (word is 10.2627.2625, excel is 2614.2625, pp 2623.2625). or is the .2625 the final build indicator, as it were? oh christ, i can't even remember why i cared now oh well, it keeps me out of trouble. mostly.
  10. <syrupy bit> *can't talk through tears of joy at joy at the return of MSFN* </syrupy bit> welcome back guys, but if you're going to go away again, leave a note on the kitchen table or something huh?
  11. Precisely, it never says "no updates available...", just gets stuck on displaying 100% complete. Just wondering if it's a known issue with SP1 - which so far has been solid apart from this, no glitches or errors (*crosses fingers*) - or if its related to other peoples problems with the windowsupdate site.
  12. I installed the Server 2003 Sp1 (v1039) lat night, now when I go to windowsupdate, it scans my computer, then shows "Windows Update is looking for available updates... 100% complete" - and thats it. Nothing else happens. Is it the SP, or is windowsupdate just doing what come naturally to a microsoft product?
  13. Just wondering if anyone knows the final build number of Office 2003? Just want to know how far my Beta is behind the RTM version.....
  14. Er, I prefer VMWare. So I'll just go hide in a corner somewhere bubblegum, if you get the PC Plus magazine with cover DVD, they usually have a trial of one or the other, or both. Try 'em before you buy 'em, I always say
  15. Ok, lets say you can put a gig together with any artist(s) living or dead. One support act, one headline act. Who would you choose? And why? My choices would be: As my openers, I'd go for a band called The Prisoners. 1980's Mod revival groovers, with a hammond organ and attitude. And some fine, fine songs. Everything I look for in a band, they had. Good songs, great tunes, and a fine vocalist in Graham Day (who later formed The Prime Movers and The Solarflares), but most importantly, the screaming, swirling hammond organ of James Taylor (who later had his own Quartet). Just the thing to get the crowd in the mood. Headlining, without a doubt, Bon Scott-era AC/DC. Pure rock n roll. Bon Scott. What a guy. Auditioned for AC/DC by downing a bottle of Jack Daniels, some coke, speed, a few joints and declaring himself "ready now". (Don't try this at home, kids!) Died in 1980, choked on his own vomit. Like I say, pure rock n roll. But possibly the finest rock frontman ever. Angus in his school uniform. As Spinal Tap said, "not a dry seat in the house". You can keep your cap-wearing nancy boy nu-metal tat, give me a sweaty, mulleted, screaming frontman with talent and passion and I'll show you proper rock music. It was a tough choice, but it'd do me just fine. Now, where did I put my deaths-head belt buckle........
  16. I like it, it's tidy and clean, without being fussy or overworked. Excellent job. Fancy re-decorating my living room?
  17. Confucious Says ... Man who walk through airport terminal gate sideways, is going to Bangkok
  18. Yeah, well, here in Britain we have a backup plan should our power supply ever keel over and die. 10,000 hamsters, in specially modified wheels connected to a series of generators, are just waiting to go. Tempted by a cream cracker suspended just in front of them, it is believed the HamsterGenerator©, running at full power, would be able to produce at least 6watts per hour, or .8mW per packet of crackers (.85mW for a pack of wholemeal crackers). I can't believe other countries are not as forward thinking.......
  19. When Windows is updating, it creates a folder called Wutemp in the root dir where it downloads the hotfixes prior to executing them. If you're quick enough you can copy the files out to another folder. I've done it with a few, mainly those over a meg or so. There may be an easier way, but then again, maybe not.........'tis MS after all.
  20. That's bloody marvellous that! (Cue toolbar straining under 20 new buttons - with MSFN first of course )
  21. Thanks Nellie, but I've been there, done that. It's not an admin. install, and no files have been altered or replaced. I can't use the workarounds because there is no setup.exe file to alter - the problem is with the .tmp files created by the patch installer.
  22. Slight Update - clicking "Ignore" at the error, this time the setup completed and said all was successful. Of course I didnt believe it, and rightly so - but what I can't figure out is why it can't update a file its created - unless the file its creating is a backup it has created of the file to be updated, to update (works if you read it slowly ). Ah well, maybe now she'll give in and just let me install Office xp for her...... The cd used for the 98se install was a genuine shiny MS disc, the one I used under 2003 was, er, ahem, created for backup purposes from a different source - different serials for each - same error from both. Oh well, it took MS 3 goes to actually send me the SP disks, so guess I shouldn't really be suprised. I never had this problem with OpenOffice.........
  23. I'm trying to update office 2000 Premium to SR1 and beyond, but when I attempt to apply the SR1 patch, it gives the following error: Error 1328: Error applying patch to file c:\config.msi\pt344.tmp. (The file name is always ptxxx.tmp) It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer modified by this patch. For more information, contact your patch vendor. I've been through the MS knowledgebase, and found a couple of similar problems, but not mine. I've tried the patch on 2 installations of O2K, one under 98se - the missus's pc - and 2003 Standard, and the 2003 install was clean and fresh, so no files have been altered. One workaround suggested renaming the offending file, but as the file in question is actually created during the patch setup, I can't. "Retry" gives the same error over and over, "Ignore" continues for a well then exits with the message that the installation has not been updated , "Cancel", well, cancels it. Anyone know of this problem, or have any suggestions?
