  1. I've just bought a SATA Plextor DVD writer that i'm very happy with. But unfortunatly the PC take 2-3 goes to start. Sometimes it just doesn't go through POST, other times it freezes whilst loasding Windows XP SP2 and other times freezes when Windows boots to Desktop. What ever happends i need to power down the PC via the main powerpack switch at the back of the PC. My specs: K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard (Supports up to 4 SATA & 2 ATA133 Hard drives) AMD64 939 3500+ Western Digital ATA hard drive The screen shot i've attached is the error messages in the Event Viewer.
  2. What would be the easiest way of sharing information with friends? We've started a 'tune of the week' where we send 1 song to each other and have to listen to it each day. (then of course delete it as keeping it would be theft! Could i use a secure web site to post and d-load the files? Or could I use the site as a server and have a folder for each fried on the desktop where i could drop the song into that would then upload them to the site? Is any of this possible to do? I have 200mb of web space i could use for this project. Any advice or comments would be welcome.
  3. I decided i wanted to complete Doom 3 before buying Half Life 2. So now complete, phew, im in the market for Half Life 2 second hand from e-bay. Is this possible? I dont quite know how the whole regestering process works and dont want to be lumbered with a copy of the game i cant play? So realy my question is- Can i play a second hand copy of Half Life 2? Will i be able to register it under my name? Thank in advance
  4. This sound more like spying on your children. If you want to protect them get Net Nanny.
  5. I have a MUSIC catagory in my WPI where i can tick the track (mp3 track converted into a .exe file) i want to play whilst WPI installs my apps. The problem i have is that WPI wont carry on installing programs until the track has finished!! So my question is, can i make WPI NOT wait for the .exe music track to finish and carry on installing the other apps?
  6. I want to create a simple menu to choose a music track to play whilst my Windows Post Installer installs my fav applications. The menu can be in a .cmd file or html i dont mind just as long as somebody could point me in the direction of a good web site where i learn how to do it.
  7. Christina all the way......more DIRTY.......
  8. Thanks Shark007, was scratching my head over that % thing. The reason two %% work is because the % is interprited as a space, sometimes see it in file names from the internet, so 2 of them mean a space then a %. Please dont ask me why the second one isnt interprited as a space
  9. Not sure if this is the right way to get rid of the tool tips, but i deleted the first batch of script in the main.js in the common folder and no tool tips. this is what i deleted: if(sNav) { window.onresize = ReloadTip document.onmousemove = MoveTip if(nn4) document.captureEvents(Event.MOUSEMOVE) } if(nn4||nn6) { mx = "e.pageX" my = "e.pageY" scl = "window.pageXOffset" sct = "window.pageYOffset" if(nn4) { obj = "document.TipLayer." sl = "left" st = "top" ih = "clip.height" iw = "clip.width" vl = "'show'" hl = "'hide'" sv = "visibility=" } else obj = "document.getElementById('TipLayer')." } if(ie4||ie5) { obj = "document.all.TipLayer." mx = "event.x" my = "event.y" scl = "eval(doc_root).scrollLeft" sct = "eval(doc_root).scrollTop" if(ie5) { mx = mx+"+"+scl my = my+"+"+sct } } if(ie4||dom){ sl = "style.left" st = "style.top" ih = "offsetHeight" iw = "offsetWidth" vl = "'visible'" hl = "'hidden'" sv = "style.visibility=" } if(ie4||ie5||ps>=20020823) { ww = "eval(doc_root).clientWidth" wh = "eval(doc_root).clientHeight" } else { ww = "window.innerWidth" wh = "window.innerHeight" evlh = eval(wh) evlw = eval(ww) sbw=15 } Im also not sure if this will effect another part of WPI. Can somebody confirm that this is/nt the right way to remove tool tips.
  10. I also get the same problem, see here for screen dump My screen resolution is 1152x864 This is a fresh, not altered in any way, install of the latest WPI, Version 3.3.5 (2005-01-11) I have used WPI befor but older versions, about 6 months ago and everything was fine. I have tryed both useroptions.js posted here without any joy. Could this be a bug somewhere or am i missing something ? EDIT... YEP i missed something...the resolution should be 1024x768.
  11. Doesn't work for me either. Think this may be the problem Not XP
  12. Try e-mailing the manufactor. My son had a joystick for flight sim that didn't vibrate even with the latest drivers. I e-mailed the manufactor and they sent me a driver for Windows SP2 that didn't appear on their driver page.
  13. My Belkin 802.11g wireless router is upstairs and my pc downstairs. The signal needs to go through the wooden ceiling and a non load bearing wall. I’m getting a low signal strength indication on the PC? This is strange as the wireless laptop with a built in receiver gets a maximum signal strength when right net to the downstairs pc! Is it that the MSI wireless card and antenna aren't much good or is there a problem somewhere else? If its the card, anyone recommend a good one, or a better antenna or signal booster.
  14. Look at me with my big red face !!! For some reason whilst testing my XPcd in VMware NO regional settings or keyboard layouts took effect, but after burning it to CD and testing it on my spare hard drive they did? Somewhere theres a lesson to be learnt here, but i cant find it
  15. Yep Tsunami your proable right . I've been trying everything i can think of today, including using Regshot to record the registray when i move it manualy. Then converting it into a registray entry and incorpreating it into my XPcd. But No, it didnt work. There must be away to do it before first boot, but im afraid thats way beyond my level of tecnicial ability. Maybe someone out there can look into this?? But for now hidding it will have to do
  16. Here you go but i cant see anything worng with it. Under the WINNT.sif i,ve pasted the reg tweek i include to back up the settings in the WINNT.sif. These dont work either WINNT.SIF
  17. Found this reg key, download attached file This is how it looked on first boot. I will try deleted the entries for Admin Tools. these could be whats stopping it being deleted, so deleting the reg then the folder would release the folder for deletion...... I think one entry is for the Start Menu and the other for All Programs??
  18. ....Didnt work? Can the TXTSETUP.SIF be edited to reflect the type of keyboard needed as nothing in the WINNT.SIF or in any REG tweek I've seen seems to work?
  19. ml20, i've tryed this by using the following- RD /S /Q "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools" ....this only deletes the shortcuts in the Admin Tools folder, not the folder itself, but as durex (not your real name i hope ) said, it also removes the shortcuts from Admin Tools in the Control Panel. I have also tryed moving it to the System Tools folder with this- MOVE /y "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Administrative Tools" "%allusersprofile%\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories\System Tools" ....which does indeed move the folder Administrative Tools and all its content to the System Tools folder..BUT leaves a empty Administrative Tools folder behind . I have then tryed to delete this folder in the Cleanup.cmd but it wont delete All this is run via a Cleanup.cmd file i copy to the Startup folder during istallation so it runs AFTER the start menu icons are in place. The last command in the batch file is to delete itself....but is doesnt?? these are the only issues i have left in my XPcd........
  20. Within my XPCD i have a tweek to put the Administrative Tools menu on the start menu. This is good. But it also puts it on the All Programs menu. Is there a reg tweek to only put it on the Start Menu, or a tweek to remove it from the All Programs menu?
  21. There must be at least 15 posts here asking how to do this, and yes, im gonna ask it as well!! Im using nlite to create my XPcd SP2. Heres the specific section of my Winnt.sif: [Unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS WaitForReboot=No UnattendSwitch=yes DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore KeyboardLayout="United Kingdom" Hibernation=No FactoryMode=Yes [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=********** EncryptedAdminPassword=no OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 LanguageGroup=0809 InputLocale_DefaultUser = 1033:0409 stemLocale = 1033 UserLocale = 1033 UserLocale_DefaultUser = 1033 I've tryed entering the reg setting [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International] "iCountry"="44" "iCurrDigits"="2" "iCurrency"="0" "iDate"="1" ...etc [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International\Geo] "Nation"="242" ...at T-12 and at first log on, the regional settings changed but NOT the keyboard layout. I dont particualy want the @ and " swapped thankyou Has anybody sucsessfuly changed the US default keyboard to English during the unattended setup? and how the hell do you do it???
