I have looked and cant find a reg tweek to lock the task bar. I have a tweek to enable quick launchbar, have a two line task bar but i want it locked after. Anyone have one?

Santa is bringing me a 1gb usb pen and i was wondering if i could install my unattended disk from it. In other words boot from usb pen. came accross THIS ARTICAL that i will try after the big day (xmas) If anyone gets this to work or has any issues with their bootable pen please post here.

wasnt a sp2 issue. uninstalled and reinstalled without any joy??? Other mahines on the network can access windows update but they use wired link.

i have the same problem. Just got a new laptop with sp1 xphome installed so i updated to sp2 via disk from microsoft. now i have the same prob as Cube623. (didnt try using Windows Update before as sp1 isn't secure) BITS and AUTO UPDATE are set to auto in services, tryed manuley replacing update V5 files without luck. Its as if it cant load something to continue with the update sequence? Dont particualy want to reformat, but could try removing and putting back sp2 if anyone feels it might help?

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester (90nm) I need one before Xmas, any body know where i can get one in the UK? There seems to be a UK shortage and everywhere is sold out.

Im looking to buy a AMD 939 motherboard and also keen to keep my system as quite as poss. I need good cooling for the Athlon64 3500+ and have had my eye on the CNPS7700-Cu for a while but am concurned about space? Has anyone used the CNPS7700-Cu on a 939 mobo? Boards i,ve looked at include so far MSI K8T Neo2-F MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum ABIT-AV8 Also can anyone recommend an alternative quite cpu cooling apart from water (or Nitrogen!) to the CNPS7700-Cu?

Just started using WPI myself and it is just the thing i've been looking for. I can uses scrips written for my Runonce.cmd in the config.js so i've nearly a working WPI up and running. I dont combine WPI with my unattended but use nlite to create my unattended XPCD and have all my apps on a seperate disk that can been installed with WPI. Nice work hasi001

I've been following this GUIDE to install Firefox silently. It needs 4 cmd line to install. How can i use 4 cmd lines in my config.js? The below didn't work. //prog[0] won't be used. Just started my WPI but i dont want to intergrate it into my unattended XPCD. I want to install the software i need after i install XP. So if i make WPI on a DVD will the following autorun.inf file work? [AutoRun] open=WPI.hta icon=WPI.ico I will modify it if the WPI.hta and WPI.ico are in a different folder than the autorun.inf file.

Can somebody point me in the direction of a good clear site listing Jave commands and examples. I plan to learn some simple Jave to use the Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI) to install software AFTER ive installed XP. Thanks

Luckily my son’s ps2 packed in 2 weeks ago. Luckily because it was still less than a year old and I was able to return it and get a full refund £140!!!! Luckily because the new PS2 slim has just been released with the RJ45 connection included in the design. Boy is it small. I knew it was going to be slim but compared to the old PS2 its positively minute Luckily my son now has a brand new slim PS2 costing £104 from Arogs and got Burnout 3 free (plus a tenner voucher for spending over £100!!! ) and he still has £35 left. This is the culmination of a long PS2 saga starting last Christmas when he bid for and won a new PS2 on E-bay and lost his £90 when the company went bust. The family rallied round a bought him the £140 PS2. Alls well that ends well

I certian its no problem with SP2. This morning i had a hour to play around with the problem. After the usual mucking round with the HD cable, changing the slave, master jumpers, configerating the bios alowing the machine to see the 2 HD's and telling it to boot from IDE 1 (working drive), I booted it up and went to device manager in Administrator tool, it was showing the dodgy drive (F:) as active? Hum....i thought, something is different. So i opened up My computer......it was displaying BOTH Hard driver!!!! Weird. This was not the first time i've mucked around with the cables, i even used different cables. I could now see ALL data on F:. Unfortunatly it was now 8.00am, i had to leave for work. It's now 9.30am (UK time), i've lest my pc on awaiting my return and hopefuly to back up my data. I'll let you know what happends. EDIT: Able to copy off data and back up . Currently wiping drive with Killdisk using a high security setting. Should be completed by the time i get home. (12 hours). i will then format and install XP pro sp2, then run tests.

Ram the mem test over night for 11 hours with 20 passes. No errors. Have notested the ios reading my cpu as an Athlon 1.15 when its an 1.8? gonna check bios. EDIT: Adjusted bios to FSB 133. Bios now showing Athlon 1.8.

Still havent resolved, looking like all data gone :-(. For anybody ever having simalar problems follow these links. Whenever i have a problem i cant fix myself i always use MSN groups bacause the depth of knowledge is massive and usualy come up with the answers. hope this helps anyone my mane is Mr b in the msn forums!

thanks for the reply but.... done it with no joy? when i boot my smaller Hard drive i cant see it in my computer but i can in device manager?

My xpsp2 Windows installation has stopped booting and is in a continuous loop. I think this happened after taking both the ram and cpu (athlon xp 1.8) out to test another machine. The Windows logo would come up with the bar underneath and then would vanish, and instead of asking for user password, the machine would reboot. The first thing I tried was Repairing the install from the XP disk. (Installing Windows over the top without deleting my files. The process never completed. During the installation it asked for the licence, regional info and network stuff but rebooted soon after this. Back into loop. It always asked weather I want to boot in safe mode, last known configuration etc, tried all without joy. Tried using chdsk /p which found 3 errors, so used chdsk /r that repaired them but didn’t solve the problem. I’ve also tried http://www.winxpfix.com/page18.htm (scroll down a bit) and replaced the Kernel32.dll. Didn’t work. NOW the Windows boot screen doesn’t ever appear at all. Gets to the boot in safe mode etc panel, I choose and option and it reboots. When using safe mode it gets to Gbdevice.sys (goback) then xmabus.sys then d346bus.sys. The last 2 have the options to hit escape to not load them. Tried this. No joy. Machine always reboot after this. Would the fixmbr command work? I haven’t tried it yet as it comes with a warning. Microsoft support I have a sceond, smaler HD with XP on that boots fine. When booted cant see the other HD otherwise i could just copy off the info and burn. HELP
