  1. Use http://v3.windowsupdaterestored.com
  2. I've added the right files and patched existing ones, you can now check for updates in all languages with Windows 98SE ONLY. Use Windows Update Restored to do that. In case you encounter an issue, please report it to me.
  3. Btw, this works on Windows NT4.0 and Windows 2000, but for 9x systems, only my method works, as 9x systems does not support any proxy sadly.
  4. WINDOWS UPDATE V3.1 FILE FORMATS Windows Update v3.1 uses the following file formats, associated with what they are for: - .CAB : This stands for the ActiveX controls (ACTSETUP.CAB, IDENT.CAB); - .GNG : These are the language packs. They change the language of the updates names & descriptions; - .AS : These files are the "redirections" to the right .inv and .bm files to detect updates and display them; - .INV : These are the inventories. They store a list of available updates; - .BM : These are also inventory files, they also store updates; - .DES : These are (normally) the updates descriptions; - .CIF : These files are requested when downloading updates. They contain the download links. ISSUES WITH WINDOWS UPDATE V3.1 When using the Windows Update v3.1 website, you may encounter errors. This is mainly due to missing files on the server. If you host your own copy of the Windows Update v3.1 website and you encounter an error, please indicate it into your question. If you're using Windows Update Restored, also indicate it, we may fix the issue. Help us save time As the issue is mainly due to missing files, here's a small way of saving our time and yours and solve the issue quickly: 1) Install a proxy on your computer (for example, Fiddler Classic: https://www.telerik.com/fiddler/fiddler-classic) 2) Open Internet Explorer on the computer where you want Windows Update to work, and go to Tools > Internet Options. Click the Connections tab, then click on LAN Settings. Check "Use a proxy server", then click Advanded. DO NOT FILL THE FIELDS BEFORE CLICKING ON ADVANCED. In the Advanced dialog box, under HTTP, enter the IP address of the computer where your proxy is running, then the port (for that, enter 8888). 3) Click on OK, then OK. Now, go to the Advanced tab, scroll down, then click on "Enable HTTP1.1 through proxy connection." 4) Click OK to close the Internet Options. 5) In Fiddler, go to Tools > Fiddler Options. Click on the Connections tab, then check "Allow remote computers to connect". For the port, choose 8888. 6) There you go! You can now see what requests Windows Update sends, and what filenames are missing! NOTE: If you do not know what's an IP address, or if you're not familiar with Internet Explorer, learn what's it and how to get it before asking "What's an IP address" or "Where is Internet Explorer". Hope you'll find this helpful
  5. Actsetup is missing, that's why. I'll add it tonight. Do not delete the pictures.
  6. You do not miss anything, the server is missing files Use a proxy like Fiddler Classic, set it up, change Internet Explorer settings to use it on port 8888 and give me the filenames (.inv, .bm, .as, .gng) and the folder name.
  7. Yep, v3.windowsupdaterestored.com works
  8. Yeah, I finally found it. But as I said, make a small FAQ, would be a great way to summarize the article with all important points.
  9. I just tried it on an old laptop wich didn't manage to have SSE2 and the proxy didn't work at all. Btw, I'm using the MII v1.3a for Windows 98 (TLS 1.2 is not needed). I also use Windows Update v4 for Windows XP/2000 and Windows Update v3.1 for older OS (Windows 95 to Me). And I could not find this article (the signatures does not load if it's in yours). For web browsing, do not use Windows XP at all (using an old and insecure HTTPS proxy on an unsupported OS will be insecure in all cases). Your article is great, but toooooooo long (there is no summary), and I don't really have the time to read all. I don't understand at all how a proxy works ... All I see is if it works or not (that's a joke, don't take it personnally). I only use ProxHTTPSProxy for debugging some old software with https requests, nothing more. If you want to avoid that, make something short and easy to understand, not Wikipedia (even if it's complete and we have all details, not everyone is able to read all of that and understand, or even choose the right section to get the information they're looking for). Or make a section "Frequently Asked Questions", with the common questions about this. If you want to reply, send me a private message, this is kinda polluting the thread (which does not make the search easy for people who are trying to find a specific post). I am not angry with you or trying to degrade your work, don't worry about that.
  10. This proxy requires SSE2 as I see. SSE2 is not supported on many old hardware. That's why I said this version. There is no difference and both work.
  11. English is fine for testing, but not everyone is english :/ Let's find updates in more languages.
  12. Yep, the website is only in english but it works on all languages.
  13. You can be a tester (but join the Discord as we do not publish all files on MSFN). Everyone can participate. @legacyfan You can help by being a tester too, and finding download links and updates for Windows 98/Me in all languages, or translating the existing pages. @mina7601 You can also do that too if you don't want to be a tester.
  14. What are you exactly trying to do? If you want to restore Windows Update v6/Microsoft Update v6, there's a simple method: Run the install.cmd in Restore_WU_XP or Restore_WU_XP_2003. Click cancel at the prompt. Install and run ProxHTTPSProxyMll v1.3a. Install the certificate (CA.crt) on the client Windows XP machine. Run the proxy, and go to the Windows Update website in the Windows XP machine, and there you go.
  15. Microsoft Windows 98, 98 Second Edition and Millennium Edition are now supported by the website. But we need the updates names and the download links, else the website won't display or download any updates offered.
  16. "Still work in progress". All is in my previous message.
  17. There are news: You asked for a Website, here it is (bought by @millenium_tech): http://www.windowsupdaterestored.com Still work in progress, but it works
  18. Finally, after 1 year, Windows Update V4 now works, but not the Windows Update Catalog. It's still buggy. But @WinFX did a very nice job!
  19. I don't have more info at the moment, sorry
  20. Hello MSFN members ! We have news, thanks to @WinFX :
