@ByQuadCore How did you get Windows Update working on Windows 98? For me, it says "WuV3IS.dll has performed an illegal operation when checking for updates.

Change it to application/Pkt, this will Work. For every wu file type, type application/file extension (for example application/bm)

Use Fiddler in Windows 10/11, and then enter the IP address of the machine running fiddler in Windows 95 (in the proxy options, HTTP, with port 8888). Then go to Fiddler options, Connections tab, and check "Enable remote connection". Check also "Use HTTP 1.1 connection with proxy" in IE options, Advanced tab.

Do you have the .inv and .bm files for Windows 95 please? I really need them because Windows update is asking me to install Windows 98 updates.

For me, Windows 95 uses www.windowsupdate.com/Static_w95/v31site/default.htm Not windowsupdate.microsoft.com

With this folder, do you have any updates in Windows 2000?

Nope, it shows only control.htm

I am trying on w95 too, but it doesn't work. I don't have any requests to a .cab or .plt file.

You are using Windows 2000? And, @WinFX, I can't restore Windows Update v3 for other systems than 2000. In Fiddler, I don't have any requests to a .plt file or a .cab file.

Yes, you can, but you have to create a DNS zone and an IIS website for that site.

Does it works by replacing nt5 with w95 or Windows 95 can only be updated using windowsupdate.com ?

What File? @xpandvistafan The catalog files are.bm files and a lot of these bm files are missing from wayback machine.

@Sanvahu You can use a machine that supports Windows Server. Use Fiddler on your vm system to see needed files.

@Sanvahu you need the HTML files for Windows Update, a Windows Server with IIS, and some test vms.

@xpandvistafan What's the folder where the updates are still stored ? In the .txt file in the WindowsUpdate folder, there are default urls for downloading the updates. This is the URL we have to change to get updates. And @WinFX, how did you manage to get Windows Update working on NT4 / Windows 95 ?

Windows Update has been restored by @maile3241 for Windows Me and 98, but IE crash when checking for updates on W98.

I have some 404 But what is strange is that the update can be downloaded from the server, but the website can't install it. Also, do you know a program like Fiddler for Windows 98 / 95 ?
