6 hr Dave-H changed the title to Running Windows 98 in 2020 and beyond...

Hi @Dave-H. What is the rationale to arbitrarily remove 'vanilla' from the thread title, it's been like this since November 2019. The relevant discussion to 'vanilla' is outlined between @siria -> @bphlpt -> @Wunderbar98 -> @bphlpt.... SpellForce post from ~3 weeks ago.
SpellForce post from ~3 weeks ago, sorry I missed it ! Write me via PMs, if they don't want your posts here, I'll help.
@Dave-H, my opinion: SpellForce is quite on-topic, since it's officially supported on Vanilla Win 98.

someone is confirming that i7-7700K is working with Windows 7
They key word here is "someone". And I can not confirm this. So no hardware for win 7 exists.
No drivers from the official Intel link also.
All of that hardware devices you say, will obviously work with with win 7, simply because they are from its era.
But hardware that would still make sense to use (no older than 6 years) - doesn't , and it's official.

Still no @XPerceniol here ?!

By the way, I don't want to interact with you so please respect that. Thank you. I'm always in good mood, but you have to respect that I don't want to be quoted by you or talk to you.
I called you to help him , not me. First off, thanks for helping that person !
I assumed you were in a bad mood 'cause of your weird reaction, like this one .
Why such reactions follow, I don't get it , perhaps you confuse me with someone else !?
How windows 7 is relevant to this question ?

one can really do without such threads.
One could also do just fine without many members saying "how wonderful Windows 7 is because it still gets the ESU updates ",
and no one obvioulsy has a licence for them, but they advice to use them for "free" with the help of a patch and even tell where to find it, but seems like everyone is fine with this !
But yeah , these free certificates are the problem, sure !

"Security Certificates are about trust and modified certificates break that trust."
Debatable ! So you trust that russian application starter used by the member Notheretoplaygames and it comes from where ? Yes, unknown sources.
Also, you think a 2mb application for updating them is safer than these pure certificates ? This is all debatable, to say the least.
I used his certificates for all this time and noticed no odd behaviour.

Hi, I'm glad you got your card working with the drivers ! Sorry, I don't use steam. I hope @Jaguarek62 can help you (if he is in a good mood, of course).
I think he is the only steam gamer here. At least it seems so.

Grab while you still can , just in case.

@win32, hi, so I bought that pile of garbage we were discussing a while back, I mean G1030, it was on pre New Year sale.
So now I can test Pascal drivers, would you be interested to join ?
I'll not be mad if not, 'cause I bought it only out of boredom, just for fun.I chose the fastest SC version with GDDR5. If one could call that thing "fastest". xD
I mean compared to the usual GT1030 with GDDR4 memory.

and I will take them down if its required to do so (I learned my lesson last time I don't want it to happen again)
Not sure I understand why they think it's illegal to share official and free certs !
While no one cares about all those (not yours!) advices to use paid ESU updates for free illegaly !

Gonna download before they delete them again.

Fantastic ! I remember the 1st edition helped me in the past.

You can still get them (Windows 7 ESU updates) for free by using a patch from MDL (My Digital Life), but I don't think a patch to get POSReady 7 ESU updates has been made (well at least yet)
I don't know about the country you live in, but I'm pretty sure it would be illegal to hack Microsoft's
licence/protection to be able to use them for free. There's a reason they sell it, you know.
For us, simple peasants, Win 7 support ended 3 years ago.

ESU support for Windows Embedded POSReady 7 ends on October 14, 2024. So idk if those updates will install on 7.
The question is , does he own a gazillion bucks licence to able to use them !

This is somehow ridiculous statement - I have Dell laptop with Intel integrated graphics and last version of drivers for it was released in April 2021!
Must be exclusive custom made !?
Here's a casual cheap (popular) mobile i5 CPU from March 2016, almost 7 years old.
No Win 7 drivers at all, not even old ones!

Windows 7 is by no means Abandonware. Still widely supported by hardware ranging up until rtx 3090. Windows 8.1 runs officialy chrome 109 release in 2022. Security updates (again official) up until january 2023. With an up to date antivirus (which it supports unlike xp and vista) without any kernel extension making it very alive os. Both of the operating systems can still be used without much of any problems. why would site like msfn flag these as out of date and legacy software when they are used by many people and business.
I will give few examples:
VMware workstation 17 still supports windows 8.1,Steam still supports both windows 7 and 8.1,Discord still supports both Windows 7 and 8.,teamviewer,glasswire,rufus,firefox,vlc,virtualbox,blender etc etc regularly updates their software on them.
Windows vista lives because of extended kernel and the fact that these programs still supports windows 7
I only respond to anyone but D.Draker
Businesses you say ? Alive OS you say ?
Well, looks like you've never been to a real business enviroment.
Businesses in Western Europe use only official, unmodified and legal products with the latest updates.
If you ever use this no-sanbox crack at your work place, they will sue the hell out of you
and fire without pay ! Also write an awful recommendation, lol.
Recently saw a huge batch of computers from one of our local businesses, made in 2016 with Win 10 stickers at our e-waste factory.
What WIndows 7, lol ? It was completely outphased in 2014 or so.
That being said, I surely don't know how they run businesses in Nicaragua.
P.S.
You don't own this forum.

Doesn‘t apply to Windows 8.1. Chromium AND Chrome 110 work fine - updating it daily and I‘m definitely not crying over the no-sandbox hack. Happily taking those intense risks you mentioned.
Please tell, how do you run the current chrome 110 on your favourite Win 7 ? (on-topic)

Why should they be removed from the Main section on MSFN? I don‘t think that‘s in anyones interest. Most of the users come here for Windows 7 and 8.1. At least this community here doesn‘t treat them like Legacy, vintage Products. Unnecessary idea
There is a huge difference between officially supported and the one that runs using hacks.
Yes, we know it runs fine with the no-sandbox hack on 8.1, win32 already wrote that, no need to write again.
There is a huge difference between normal users and us, who are willing to take risks.
Don't you think the normal users should be warned, at least ?
So this puts Vista and 7/8/8.1 in the same shoes, but Vista moved away, and they are not,
yet Windows 7 is abandonware, dropped by Microsoft almost 3 years ago.

Then put Vista back , because it also runs Chrome with this hack, by this very logic !

Hell, it's not even supported by the famous MKV cutting programme MKVToolNix,
for almost a year now.
And like the above orator said, the drivers are terribly out of date,
Intel dropped Wiindows 7 eight (8 or 9!) years ago !
Nvidia and AMD dropped Win 7 approx. 2 years (or so) ago.

@Sampei.Nihira, if you read the above comments carefully, this hack doesn't help Windows 7 at all.
Most importantly, on windows 7 this no-sandbox hack doesn't work anyways.
So no launching the new Chrome at all.

I think it's equally as hard to get Chromium back on Vista and 7. I'm sure it will be done.
And it still works on Windows 8 with --no-sandbox for now.
The advice to use --no-sandbox hack may lead to furious whining from "security oriented" users,
not wanting to call them security freaks, so just leave it put very politely put, like I did.
Officially it means danger:
When the sandbox is disabled with this flag , websites can potentially execute malicious Javascript based exploits onto your computer.
This exposes the user to Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploits that can execute arbitrary code on your computer.
A Chromium based javascript exploit can potentially affect every single downstream application that is built using the Chromium engine.
The 110 Chrome asks for GetProcessMitigationPolicy (which is win 10 and up only).
And don't forget about this :
The data execution prevention (DEP) policy of the process.
The lpBuffer parameter points to a PROCESS_MITIGATION_DEP_POLICY structure that specifies the DEP policy flags.
ProcessASLRPolicy The Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) policy of the process. Source :
microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/processthreadsapi/nf-processthreadsapi-getprocessmitigationpolicy
So this is absolutely official - no more Chrome for 7/8/8.1.
Not to mention a gazillion of games that do not start on 7/8/8.1
due to the missing functions and/or DX12.
@Tripredacus, @Dave-H , would be wise to finally retire these OSes from the main section, no ?

Microsoft to end support for edge on 7-8.1 (from windows central)
in Windows 7

This is no surprising since it's based on Chrome, all chrome-based browsers had dropped Win 7 - 8, 8/1.
It's a fact, no matter how painful it might be for the fans of these systems.
