Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
In my usual system, XomPIE breaks directx, and without XomPIE, update 291 would'nt run. For some apps -those that do not require directX- it suffices to copy the required files (errors reporting missing files) can be solved by copying them into the java/bin folder. This doesn't make the trick, again, for apps requiring directX. This is probably due to tweaks, restrictions in my system. In a vanilla -but heavily nlited- system, it seems to work fine. For me, upd152 seems to be the last version. But I wonder if PatchPE may do the trick. I will try some time, and report back in this post. Thanks! -
Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
@Dave-H, BY MISTAKE POSTED HERE - COULD YOU PLEASE MOVE IT? IT BELONGS TO Hi, I took a first shot. I managed to do the xompie thing in a clean nlited VM. And it seems to work. In my usual pc, though, while working, Xompie breaks a few things -including Serpent. So I xompied java in VM, and copied the converted files to my PC. Will report on use tomorrow. Thanks! -
Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
@Dave-H, BY MISTAKE POSTED HERE - COULD YOU PLEASE MOVE IT? IT BELONGS TO Probably you have it, like me, since forever, and can't get rid of it. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}. A remnant of some of the first versions of flash. EDIT: I was testing xompie around the same time I did this, xompie broke basilisk52, so I was worried this thinghie may have been the cause, It wasn't. In fact, it probably does nothing, other than allowing me to be free of registry errors after almost two decades of watching this key showing up over and over in multiple reg cleaners, with no indication whatsoever on how to delete the damn thing. Now is gone. I'm happy! Ha ha. The issue -for me at least- was the permissions. Go to the key in regedit, (1) permissions, (2) advanced, where there is an entry (the first one) that says Everyone . Open it and it is set to (3) deny. Change values to (4) allow. Now delete. -
Kerio and Privatefirewall are good alternatives, but I am not sure if they can handle the kind of (ahem) stuff that you may unleash installing software like the ones (but not necessarily so) discussed here. Those installers may bypass your firewall (and other security) settings altogether, "for the convenience of users."

I do not use this 360 browser, but I may, so I follow (which helps in other areas too, given the input provided from users like yourself) this thread. Going to your point, you may want to try Firemin (which despite what the page says, seems to work in XP -but I have not yet found any need for it, so I don't know if it really does) https://www.rizonesoft.com/downloads/firemin/. Cheers

Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
Thank you very much for this. I will try it soon and report back. Does it provide any significant improvement over previous versions? I am running 8.0.17, and do not use Java apps unless forced to it. But I do run it: for example, I am runnig now docfetcher over a 50+gb chunk of files I want indexed for text searching within those 50+gb of files :P -

I think the addon only calls the client. But as I said, I could only test on firefox. What is the addon (extension) you are using? -

I coudln't install it on Seerpent 52, only in old firefox 52 esr. In this last case it requires installing the client, which is the one tha controls audio and video. -

Yeah, it is my settings, which are quite convoluted. I will have to find out (other than httpseverywhere) what is causing this -which is indeed forcing https connections when they are not available, even in pristine (vanilla, @VistaLover) profiles. Thanks for the feedback! -

Hi. I am having issues with some pages not loading at all ("Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at...") in Baslisk 52 vainilla, even though they load seamlessly in k-meleon and other borwsers. The pages are: http://kmext.sourceforge.net/ (I cannot open this one even in firefox 52 esr) www.malsmith.net/yori/ (opens in firefox 52 ESR) There may be others that I assumed dead, but are alive and well in k-meleon. Can you replicate this? Thanks! -
Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
For basilisk (at least) ruffle is able to run flash files -in places such as old movies repos. It doesn't run on kmeleon :(, but probably does in PM. The desktop app doesn't seem to work in xp, but flash files can be playe in almost all traditional players (vlc, smplayer, MPC 1.7...) https://ruffle.rs/#releases -

Adobe Flash, Shockwave, and Oracle Java on XP (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to Dave-H's topic in Windows XP
Such a diffrent file structure... I have a functional (extracted) version 8.0 copied on top of installed 7.x, The files in this distribution are so different, that I am afraid to use out of virtual until confirmed working. Watching. Thanks! -
I have not tried it, and I do not know if it would require the instalation of a desktop client, but the firefox addon can be installed in Basilisk 52 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cisco-webex-extension/
-
He, I meant latest. 7.3.3. Filehippo and similar list it as XP compatible. But the offline versions I have found do not run on XP. The online version does run, but I do not want to blindly install google software because it installs other things (like googleupdate). And I dislike the spyware character that I assume those things may have. EDIT: @VistaLover was right. 7.1.8 is the last (as different to latest) version running in XP
-
Does anyone know where to find the full "offline" installer or portable last version of googleearth pro? I do not want to use an online installer (an installer that downloads from google). Thanks!

I just realized it is possible to use zoom (as in videoconference) in XP. You can donwload the installer at https://zoom.us/download, which is Client v. 5.6.3 for newer windows, 5.0.2 for XP. It is not portable [creates a c:\users\yourname\appdata], but you can extract ZoomInstallerXP.exe, and then unzip the folder "ZoomFull.cab". You can then move the contents of the "bin" subfolder (inside the extracted ZoomFull folder), to a directory of your choice, and adapt the reg file below with your path. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION] "Zoom.exe"=dword:00002af8 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.zoommtg] @="ZoomLauncher" "Content Type"="application/x-zoommtg-launcher" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ZoomLauncher] @="Zoom Launcher - 3.0.1" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ZoomLauncher\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Internet\\Network\\Zoom.exe\" \"--url=%1\"" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\MIME\Database\Content Type\application/x-zoommtg-launcher] "Extension"=".zoommtg" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform] "Zoom 3.6.0"="" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\zoommtg] @="URL:Zoom Launcher" "URL Protocol"="" "UseOriginalUrlEncoding"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\zoommtg\DefaultIcon] @="\"C:\\Internet\\Network\\Zoom.exe\",1" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\zoommtg\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Internet\\Network\\Zoom.exe\" \"--url=%1\"" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ProtocolExecute\zoommtg] "WarnOnOpen"=dword:00000000 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Low Rights\ElevationPolicy\{AFDA28A5-1B5F-4635-9877-73DF0D710C9A}] "AppName"="Zoom.exe" "AppPath"="C:\\Internet\\Network" "Policy"=dword:00000003 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ZoomRecording] @="Zoom Recording File" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ZoomRecording\DefaultIcon] @="\"C:\\Internet\\Network\\Zoom.exe\",0" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\ZoomRecording\shell\open\command] @="\"C:\\Internet\\Network\\zTscoder.exe\" \"%1\"" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.zoom] @="ZoomRecording" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ShellNoRoam\MUICache] "LangID"=hex(3):09,04 "C:\\Internet\\Network\\Zoom.exe"="Zoom Meetings"

My Browser Builds (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Quite true. Silicon Valley wannabe complex, they suffer. It happened to Netscape too, for those who can remember or care to read about it. -
Options/Test path before synchronize? I misread your question: you may want to test realtime synch (top right tick-box) with preview synch (second top left tick-box. In my opinion, t is the fastest, simplest yet complete sync software in XP.

My Browser Builds (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Of course, this shouldn't prevent other independent threads, but it may help and encourage roytam1 (and those more closely supporting his work) to continue doing what is being done, which is very good and -for those who depend on old good XP- vital. PS: Clearly, this comment would then belong to RT1 Mail Client and Other s***, lol -
My Browser Builds (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Suggestion based on my usage -merely as food for thought, given the amount of interest (and fun!) roytam1's FOSS spirit is making possible in the XP (and Vista) world- divide the thread in three (I use RT1 as heading for example, I like it): 1 - RT1 Builds [Official]:where only roytam1 and those who are more actively supporting him development-wise (roytam1 should call it) have posting rights. Just "official" stuff, like releases and tutorials. 2 - RT1 Browsers Discussion: to discuss issues about the builds (like pluggins, about:something issues, "version xxx breaks my grandpa's page"), EXCLUDING addons 3 - RT1 Browsers Addons: well, just that 4 - RT1 Mail Client and Other s***: mostly mailnews, and other stuff Just sayin. Be well. -
My Browser Builds (Part 2)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Thanks roytam1! I have not yet fully test it (I will), but installs correctly, and saves media as it should. The only glitch I have found, so far, is that even if I change preferences to open in a tab, Zotero opens in a panel. This is solved (manually, but sticks during session -probably even after closing session, will report) by pressing the "toggle tab mode" button (top right, just near to the "close" button). I will finally be able to stop using Palemoon 27, which I started using just for Zotero, a couple of years ago. Thanks again!
