Chrome 115 working on Windows XP 32 bit
dmiranda replied to sparty411's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
sometimes I get to install an extensions, but dowloading the next i get restarting the installed extension is gone, and on trying to reinstall, get the same error. Probably a minor glitch. Will try a clean install and add the extensions from there, later modify the settings to my taste. -

Well, n a clean install runs as advertized. I'm getting issues installing extensions. Nothing to do with V2-V3, I reckpn, but with the files and forlders I block. Will relax things, try to install, and then harden again. And report, later on dduring the week. Cheers! -

I never has such things happen in my set up. In my opinion, operator failure. Don't blame the browser (that only wants to spy to telemetry and "make your browsing better") for faulty system configuration. -
Chrome 115 working on Windows XP 32 bit
dmiranda replied to sparty411's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I'm giving it i a try. Below report point by point for updates later. 1 Launching in VM: I launched fisrt on VM, monitoring connections, nohting out of the ordinary, but used to @Articfoxie's and @Humming Owl builds I see a few connections to gg sites. No news there on my end. In my first runs, I had to manually copy the entries for my firewall (probably a remaining restriction of some sort I put there when chrome was food for Conan types). I basically copied the very restrictive permissions I had given to 360chrome to chorme115). No upd, of course. 2 Launching with @articfoxie's loader (even though he frowns upon it): I renamed the loader and its corresponding ini to 115loader or so. Unlike 360chrome, Chrome15 complains if I set --gaia-url=0.0.0.0, so I dropped it. All the other stuff remains, no apparent damage done (TBR). See attached file, some paths edited. The apple and gecko suaos at the end are surely wrong, but do not damage yet. Does anyone have the correct apple/gecko ones? 3 To launch 2, I use Chrome115.bat, with which I load settings and files/folders I want to remain unchanged over time, and to prevent chrome creation of spyware placeholders. Marked with selection are those folders where there are real data (the extensions I want to keep unaltered, unless I manually updated them). The rest are empty dirs and extensionless files to prevent the creation of spyware folders or files in profile. Works most o the time. 4. I'm trying to figure out how to install my extensions, a few of them. Now I see what all that talk about V2 and V3 was about. I hope this helps someone, and that it prompts corrections from those who know better. . Cheer! 115Loader.ini 115Loader.exe -
Neither do I. What I say is that upon a crash (due to media overload or other reasons) happens, though, on restart, when I care to check, I ussually find breave, mokkej, ddg and qwant back in extensions.ini and search.json.mosl4. Something in the process of recreating these files puts them back in. Normal behavior in modern (or more or less modern browsers). Cheers

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Regarding this intel issue (perhaps) and the recent ability some sites have gained to get real set up specs, I caught this "dissapearing" pref every now and then in SP52 (also now in Mypal): devtools.telemetry.tools.opened.version, "{\"DEVTOOLS_OS_ENUMERATED_PER_USER\":\"52.9.0\",\"DEVTOOLS_OS_IS_32_BITS_PER_USER\":\"52.9.0\",\"DEVTOOLS_SCREEN_RESOLUTION_ENUMERATED_PER_USER\":\"52.9.0\"}"); I cauhgt this very rarely, and will blank it out soon and see what breaks in the devtools, if any thing. -
Yup. Great tool. Unfortunately. after a few restarts (maybe a crash), the deleted items come back. That is why I keep a backpup of the cleaned up search.json, that I add on every launch to the profile (idem with extension.json (if yo hav a stable set of addons). Cheers!

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
dmiranda replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Archive today (perhaps for ever, but I visited it in a clean profile only recently to harden a sp52 -and mp68 too- from scratch) has a serious look at your canvas. If it is new thing, that may explain it, and pm canvas legacy extension may help. But I don't know, because (again), I hadn't visited the site without hardening the profile first, during the last 5 or so years. -
Thank you very much, shelby, I don't use this browser (can't yet), but your suggestions allow me to finally leave behind those funny boxes, here and somewhere else. https://icomoon.io/LigatureFont.zip

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Yeah, who is that gorhill? Does he have a PhD? Just in case you take quoting you as an endorsement, LAF. PS: at least check the suggested pages, in the particular one suggested by @Sampei.Nihira there are a few dozen technical reviews.- 126 replies

Hi. This one used to work (perhaps it still does and is my set up). I use the addon singlefile, a lot. Recently, in some pages I started getting the error e-findlast function not found, for example in elciudadano.com

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Ha ha, good to know I had the fix already. I feel safer :P. I also tried in mypal, so I guess that is also fixed. As per trying on a non-fixed version, I completely trust what you say: I tried even though I thought I was unprotected. Put to think about it, not the first time, really ;P- 126 replies

Have you tried with istilldontcareaboutcookies-1.1.1? They are community run, and (they say) answer to requests. It works better (more comprehensively) than the old idontcareaboutcookies. Cheers @Sampei.Nihira, and thanks for continuing to share your knowledge with us, retired and all. Don't mind them digital flies.

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Which ones were those? I may have miss'em. Look: webp is an issue, and there are a million monkeys working 'round the clock to get into the systems of persons of import (the CitizenLab tries to deal with that sort of stuff). Bottom line, though, unless a state-sponsored team directly targets you, it is carelessness and curiosity that kills the cat. Go on looking for sites with webp images, download or watch stuff from shaddy sites, use software that has not been vetted by people of real, practical (not youtube) knowledge, and you'll get scientific proof that they're out to get you. I know you need your fix, and that you need it now. In the meanwhile... well, you get the picture.- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
I've got plenty of webp files in my system. That's not the issue. I also got lots of flash, doc(x), html, and what have you type of files (millions!), all of them (files of that type, that is) at one time or another making non-savy surfers suffer some sort of issue, masked under some other extension, blah blah blah. But I thought we weren't talking anymore. I'm so glad you (guys) decided to break the ice.- 126 replies

Webp Virus, fears, nightmares, suggestions, or exodus from the internet?
dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
Well, time for those sites to change their practices, period. I ceased to use flash, webgl almost decades ago. I don't think I missed anything of importance. As any M.D (even more if s/he has a PhD) would say: if drinking wine makes you ill, don't drink it. PS: but if you have to, the suggested ublock fix allows you to satisfy your thirst, anyway. Just allow the glass to reach your lips temporarily or permanently. Hic!- 126 replies

dmiranda replied to Dixel's topic in Web Browsers
I just get the image attached, no crash, nothing, on sp52 hardened to boot. PS: I get the same thing in my social media profile where I visit all the bad bloated fellas, safely enough, apparently.- 126 replies

Somehow this place, https://www.researchgate.net is broken: cloudfare verification stops it, here and in roytam1's build, where I'm replicating this post in case there are different options (I will blank out the one that doesnt' correspond, and accept @Dave-H o r other moderator ruling about it. Basically, if I have the exact download pdf/doc address, no problem. If I have to go through the interface, cloudfare (surprise, surprise) complicates things the way it does. I tried different suaos, and using firefox 115.0 almost does it in vanilla, but not quite. Thanks.

Another way: once you have already set up your search engines the way you want, you can copy and save somewhere the file youprofile/search.json.mozlz4 and later on, routinely, replace the one in your polluted profile. That way, you will always have them as you want them. The same applies to sp52, and you may in fact use your already sp52 profile/search.json.mozlz4 in mypal. The issue with mojeek and brave is more complicated, because mypal installs them from yourprofile/extensions.json. As described before in this forum, you need to open this extensions.json file, and delete the items to prevent them from reappearing. PS: two caveats. 1) When copying your archived use ready search.json.mozlz4 you are likely to need to go to prefs and reassign your default search engine. Otherwise, GG (oh surprise) takes over. 2) the text for mojeek and brave in extensions.json will have changes in uid, as per your installation, so copy and paste over won't do the trick. you will have to find the code, and delete it manually)
