  1. I dont care if companies want to abandon stuff, but lately its artificial barriers to block older things. Im so glad i dont live in a "cloud" world, because all my old software wouldnt work, some guy somewhere could just flip a switch on some server and im forced to play some upgrading game on something that was working perfectly.
  2. Haha, my comb is a joke, i dont really sell combs. Light hearted joke, newer is not always better. Skim the xp subsection, and you will find a thousand reasons people still use xp. Your "as it should be" comment is dismissive of everyone who still has a use and a preference for using xp. I will never believe the death of xp is "as it should be". Same goes with 7.
  3. Im so tired of people trying to hold onto the past. I sell combs, and i too would like to have income flowing after the initial sale. With bluetooth connectivity to your cellphone, i can collect some data that helps me to better target the customer with what they dont know they need yet. I can charge your bank automatically through your cellphone per month to keep the supply of hair balm being shipped to you. I dont care if you dont want hair balm, it is not a comb i am selling you, but a hair care and grooming enhancement service. But seriously, what i wonder more is why people would come to an xp specific section in a forum just to p*** on everyones parade. After you rid the world of old OS users, there are people world wide who, brace yourself, like old cars. Destroy their communities, think of the poor car manufacturers.
  4. Thanks for the settings tips, added them to my info folder. Did some digging, If you add : CustomLocation1=FIREFOX|C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles\ into ccleaner.ini it will check and determine its firefox based, this feature seems to be added in ccleaner v2.28.1091, tested basilisk with v4.11 slim.
  5. Thanks so much for this project. Finally started to move away from 52esr to basilisk 52-g4.1, nice smooth transition, my addons work, i just have one question; Has anyone set tools like ccleaner with folders to be cleaned, before i start looking myself? Temp / net tracks type things that wont break basilisk. Thanks!
  6. Asus Sabertooth 990FX Rev2.0 (not sure about rev1) running amd-fx 8350 32gb ram radeon HD 7800 series- WinXP x86 + x64 run great. Sadly when they moved to Rev3.0 they dropped xp support. I know they changed some components when they rev'd, but i am not sure how much you could "force" the rev2 drivers into rev3.
  7. Clamwin + Clam Sentinel gets you real time scanning, and its still lightweight.
  8. Any apps like wsuso for xp posready, offline update? Searching around leads me to nothing interesting.
  9. Fresh install of x86 sp3 slipstreamed with updates ~2014, ExtXp patch installed/rebooted smooth. I picked some really bad choices to test as far as software goes, so i wasted time. When i get more, will try some other stuff.
  10. Thanks for what you're doing, and sharing.
  11. This is a possible way for them to force features even onto LTSB branch before the max allowed (10 years?) feature push. Heres a big pile of updates that we wont call a service pack anymore. It adds features a business does not want. So far so good, except.. Sorry, but we decided not to update ###1 anymore, you need to accept the ###2 big pile of updates & features to get any more security updates. I use the term features loosely. One mans source of milk is another mans source of manure.
  12. Is this something to replace system files, or drop into a programs folder? SP2, or 3 needed? Any extra info appreciated
  13. MS DISM, Winreducer, dism++, msmg toolkit, to name a few recent ones worth looking into.
  14. On yt i allow the 2 scripts that always try to run, then goog|e.com script and i can watch videos with no ads. The others (lots) i keep blocked with noscript. Maybe your browser settings concerning 3rd party scripts plays a role, if you dont use any addons.
  15. Refreshing on the history behind AARD, i cant help but recall all the times i have read about someone having problems with an AMD card, and ending the thread with; Problem solved, i bought an nvidia card. Makes you wonder.

I am just happy people are trying to do this. I will be in the clouds if and when it is a reality. So, i know there is no perfect solution at this time, but i will take this moment to say thank you to all contributing, either with code or knowledge. I only wish i knew what i was doing in relation to this topic to be able to help. Using AppVerifier to remove false vista+ requirements is as far as i have got.
  17. If people are going to bend over and accept telemetry from MS (and even into previous OS's, and compilers), of course other companies are going to start jumping on the bandwagon. Maybe in the future, when doing something as simple as saving a text file on your own computer, involves writing data to multiple files, registry keys, and connecting to multiple 3rd party servers, people might start to care. Probably not though, it seems cattle like to keep their heads down when they are being herded.
  18. He asked cortana what is 'head bang', he ment head banger. User error.
  19. Sorry to hear about your wife :( If you say the TV model, maybe i can dig around and see what resolutions it prefers, or find where they hid picture options. I dont personally use a tv for my pc, but when i did, i had some trouble with resolutions (for my specific old video card). With a wrong resolution all i got was a black picture, once i dropped the resolution down, then it was working. Since you have it up and running, you could try to make windows resolution a little smaller, which would make everything bigger, and might even fix the extended picture youre getting.
  20. I would recommend to check the system to see if it has any "Burn recovery media" type software to create a backup first. If not, i would look into 3rd party software to create a ghost image before attempting anything. Checking the Acer website, they dont even have win 8(.1) drivers listed, only windows 10, which is even more reason to try to make an image backup of what you currently have. As far as getting XP running on it, you might be able to, but you may run into problems with drivers. Searching the net i see some 3rd party sites have drivers and list XP, but im not familiar with the sites.
  21. Nothing to be sorry about! I was just curious. Again, thanks for your efforts to keep xp alive :)
  22. Cant wait to try your comp layer. I really hate to be "that person", but i must ask. Is there any plans for doing the same for XP x64? Thanks for your efforts to keep XP alive!
  23. I read that last quote as "by demonizing access to intelligence". Anyway, i had a dream. Near Windows 10 r4, the mouse will be phased out to introduce XBOX controller functionality. Shortly after MS will announce they are getting out of the game console market.
  24. Sometimes which method you use to pin will change results. Start > All Programs > Accessories, right-click Windows Explorer and choose Pin to Taskbar Start > Type "Windows Explorer", right-click the result and choose Pin to Taskbar If none of this works (pin to taskbar doesnt appear, or appears to do nothing) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Applications\explorer.exe If you have "NoStartPage" (REG_SZ) (export and) delete it, restart, try to pin again. <Insert Editing the Registry is dangerous Warning Here> Good luck!
  25. Its all about what theyre targeting imo. Try to upgrade your PC to a phone or tablet.
