Thank you so much! I can't wait to test this on a Windows 95 when I get a chance! This player is crazy ahead of its time (2005) and even supports MP4! EDIT: The program says MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder was removed due to intellectual property considerations...my MP4 ran anyway, but there was zero sound. Are there any AAC plugins I could install for the Windows version? The video plays PERFECTLY...the plugins for pocket PC don't work...I tried using the plugins here, but the audio still won't work! I found the plugin for only PalmOS and PocketPC...could it be possible to extract the PocketPC's plg file and use it on Windows? There is evidence of getting AAC to work on the Windows version! Current experiment: using these plugins or these ones. Link to Windows TCPMP here; confirmed working on Windows ME. Maybe I could obtain the last version (TCPMP 0.65 win32) that did have MPEG4 AAC Audio decoder? Though it's reported to be artificially blocked because of version, I still require an .plg format plugin...could using a Hex editor possibly work at fixing this? Dead links kill me x_x

I tried BSPlayer 2.58 without success. It will not launch on Windows 9x even with KernelEx. Thank you all for your suggestions! I hope to test Gomplayer on Windows 95 if I can get the chance to create a machine!

intel GMA 900 driver for windows 98? anyone have one please

I tried to run House of the Dead 2 and only got glitchy polygons...I guess this driver is no better than the VEMP one... -
intel GMA 900 driver for windows 98? anyone have one please
FantasyAcquiesce replied to undertoe's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Can you suggest a game for me to use? Gonna try House of the Dead. The driver had initialized fine. Though Windows still says the hard drive is using DOS-compatibility. I have not tested this driver on Windows 98, only ME. EDIT: Trying to play House of the Dead I only gave me a glitchy screen (pretty much the equivalent of a BSoD), but that happens with a lot of 95/98 applications incompatible with ME. -
intel GMA 900 driver for windows 98? anyone have one please
FantasyAcquiesce replied to undertoe's topic in Windows 9x/ME
I don't mean to grave-dig, but I've noticed this topic on MSFN tends to come up first in a google search. After over a decade, I finally found a Windows 98/ME compatible driver. https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2019/06/intel-945gm-display-driver-for-windows.html To install this driver: 1) You must install LoneCrusader's unofficial Windows 9x chipset drivers. Be sure to apply to EVERY applicable missing driver (every hard drive shown). Failing to do so will result in this driver not working!! 2) Install DirectX 9. This is REQUIRED as shown in Windows 2000 or later. 3) Go to device manager and manually install INF file from Windows 2000 folder. This driver does not install through the installer because of an artificial OS block! 4) Restart your computer and enjoy!! This driver was tested on a Thinkpad R60! Sadly, I have yet to find a working SoundMax HD Integrated Audio driver for Windows 9x...same goes with the wireless card! -
I don't think Media Player Classic 6.4.9.1 is capable of MP4's. I recall using it a couple years back without success... The media player works fine with ffdshow, but MP4's are rendered horribly; the video is mostly grey. DivX's codecs didn't show up in Zoom Player (old and new version). K-Lite 2.51 was also pretty bad for MP4's. I guess I'll just have to stay on Haihaisoft Universal Player w/ KernelEx. The single flaw in UP is the process not ending when closed (process explorer has to be used). VLC 1.1.0 might be a good KernelEx alternative. How about BS Player? Anyone know the last Windows 98 version for that?
-
Thanks for your reply! I tried VLC before but the program has a bit of issues with longer files. It's a great help to know SMPlayer does have a version that works on Windows 98. Version 0.98's seek bar won't work with KernelEx.

The title says it all: I am looking for any method to run MP4 files on Windows 95: codecs, media players, etc. I've more or less accomplished the search on Windows 98 (requires KernelEx), now I'm hoping to play MP4's on a Windows 95 PC! Currently searching everywhere if there's a way~ Thank you all for your time! Edit: Thanks to Roytam1, we have a wonderful MP4 decoder for Windows 98/ME and even a Windows 95 compatible build! I backed up the file here: https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2020/01/tcpmp-072rc1-mod-6.html

I do have a Windows ME installation on my laptop, but I have no need for it at the moment (because Windows ME is already installed there). OH, I just remembered about my Thinkpad R60 that I forgot of...perfect call! Copyzilla + VMWare Windows ME installation + SATA drivers should make it! EDIT: Cancelling desktop hard drive (1tb) installation until I can get a new hard drive. Instead, I'm gonna try it on my laptop.
-
I'm planning to copy my Windows ME partition to a hard drive using clonezilla. Kinda in a dilemma at a moment; both 1tb hard drives I tested on my machine are broken...so, I'm wondering if I should using my 160gb hard drive that has Windows XP and Vista...but I don't wanna lose the data. I don't have any laptop to desktop hard drive converters on me...and copying the whole hard drive would be 160gb of space (at least 60gb if not including unused space)

It worked! Windows ME successfully entered safe mode. I just need to figure out why ME will boot with a broken hard drive, yet cannot boot without it. I can't figure out why ME won't boot normally though. I patched the system before putting it on my flash drive, so I don't think I need to remove the 4 of 8 (1gb) ram sticks in my PC. No USB mouse is working either in safe mode, so I cannot explore windows unless I had a ps/2 mouse.

KernelEx 2022 (Kex22) Test Versions (4.22.26.2)
FantasyAcquiesce replied to jumper's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
There seems to be a little bug in KernelEx: MSI Installer Programs won't give us the option to enable KernelEx for the application. Mavis Beacon Teaches typing 20 is an example; the installer does not have a KernelEx tab. -
Hello MSFN! I'm aiming to install Windows 98 or ME on my Dell Precision when I figured I could originally work around the ram by manually setting ram limitations, then came upon a dead-end of no SATA CDROM or Drive Drivers because the machine cannot disable those options. In theory, would it be possible for me to simply install Windows 9x on a virtual machine, install required drivers there, then convert to my physical machine? The process sounds a lot less tedious and installing the actual OS wouldn't take nearly as long. I can install Windows ME instantly, enable DOS-mode back, install rloew's SATA, ram, and 2tb hard drive patches there easily. Unlike the physical machine, I won't have to physically remove the ram in my machine or potentially dual-boot Linux to access to Windows 9x partition. I can also include all the necessary files in case of an issue (USB, drivers, software, utilities, etc.) I would imagine setting up a bootable Linux USB, copying the file inside the flash drive, then applying the system image into the physical machine. If we could do this on any machine in theory, then 9x could be implemented on any machine (no guarantee for drivers, but rloew's patch for that may help). EDIT: So far, I've learned that a VHD can be mounted and copied. But, I still haven't tried yet. Using copyzilla, I successfully had my Windows ME partition copied to the flash drive and...it sorta boots. The system won't boot past the main menu; I believe this is because my boot device itself is a usb device...I've noticed while launching Windows ME on my old laptop, keeping a flash drive plugged in during boot would completely cause freezing upon boot. If anyone has a solution, please tell me!

I believe Chromium is technically an option, but installing it requires blackwingcat's chrome tool and a very early version (so it might not be worth using). An older topic on MSFN mentiond using old chrome on Windows ME with KernelEx + Chrome Tool. I think I recall jumper mentioning using slimboat (portable edition) on Windows 9x. But, I think it requires kernelex stubs and updated system dll's to work. I've tried using only kernelex 23, and it would only launch for a moment before crashing.

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
FantasyAcquiesce replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
This is MSFN, we're all interested! The vogons forums is also a great place to post your wonderful discovery! What version of SMP Player? I've tried running 0.98, but it's slidebar won't work at all. -
Ah shoot! I either forgot to turn off the "enable kernelex for all programs" or updating the kernelex files re-enabled it. I'm so sorry! On the bright side, we have an aesthetic media player that will play any MP4 just fine with KernelEx + Extensions; no updated dll's or kernelex stubs were used here!
-
Yes, I installed the program without enabling KernelEx and included the codecs!
-
I just made a wonderful discovery! Haihaisoft Universal Player 1.5.8.0 will install and play just fine on VANILLA Windows ME Unlike using the KernelEx updates with SMPlayer, this video player will do MP4's just fine; skipping to parts of the video works just fine <3 Backing it up here

Hello, I was trying to make a bootable CD because rufus kept giving me a bootmgr is missing error, regardless of the choices I made, then I realized that most of my computer's dvd drives are not working. -My AIO HP PC -An Asus Desktop -A HP (2010) laptop -Thinkpad R60 -Dell Latitude D600 (it might be Windows ME's fault that the DVD cannot be erased) In the majority of my PC's (excluding a Dell Precision T3400), the DVD drives keep malfunctioning. Is there some sort of driver issue going on here? For example, my AIO HP PC used to burn CDs and DVDs just fine until a few months ago; the drive suddenly stopped reading discs; when I try to burn a CD, Windows ejects instead of read the input CD. Do these drives have a tendency to break out of the blue or something? It's frustrating to find that I have no other solution to Rufus (tried older versions too) when a I get a missing bootmgr error.

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
FantasyAcquiesce replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Randomly dropping by: Does anyone recall a media player that had a minimum requirement of Windows 2000 but ran on Windows 98/ME anyway? While on Windows 98, the media player's video slider would not work, but video was amazing compared to other options. -
Supporting Intel Core i3 8th gen Processors.
FantasyAcquiesce replied to m1shaez's topic in Windows Vista
Seeing this is a Coffee Lake CPU, partially, at worst. To install, you'll require... *VLite (to integrate drivers in a Windows Vista installation) **A newer ACPI.sys file (Windows XP did; Vista may not, depending on the vendor) *SATA/ACHI Drivers (These are Windows XP drivers, but they should work) *Modified Windows 7 driver for your Intel® UHD Graphics 630 (this may not work because it's meant for 7) I do not recall any forum post mentioning getting the 1050 TI to work on Windows Vista...I do not believe modified drivers exist for the 1050... Also, you'll need to provide what sound card you are using. Do you happen to be using a wireless card by chance? I'm also not aware whether the video card I provided will provide chipset drivers or not. -
Make Smartphone Appear as USB Storage?
FantasyAcquiesce replied to FantasyAcquiesce's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Does anyone know a good workaround for apple iphones too? I've had many headaches attempting to help my mother with her faulty apple iphone; it keeps stopping during a photo transfer to the pc. Android's workarounds are fine (FTP, online storage, OTG USB adapter with flash drive), but the iphone is a whole new story: the freaking thing doesn't even have an option to share/transfer galleries, attempting to upload into google drive and mega fails too. The iphone is a jailhouse of a "smartphone" e.e
