  1. No. About a year ago I tried emulator VDMSound (9x, alpha) playing Prince of Persia 1 in a DosBox inside Windows, with hda2.dll as wave-device. Sound worked, but the game crashed as soon Midi had to be played. I didn't find a solution yet to use DirectMusic (Hda2.dll is not a WDM-driver!).
  2. Do you mean this little fellow? I never use it, but it´s there on my old Windows SE installation (with original KernelEx).
  3. I have made some log-files you can use if you like. The Filemon-log lists the files opened by MOC.EXE, the Regmon-log lists the registry-keys and the Dependency Walker-log lists API's and all files with version numbers. Filemon FileFormatConverter SaveAs DOC.LOGRegmon FileFormatConverter SaveAs DOC.LOGDW MOC -f [Path]Test2.docx.dwi.dwi
  4. I just tried myself. I have two versions of the 12.6500.5000 FileformatConverter.exe. The one with version nummer in properties won't install, only the MSI works. The other version, without details in properties, installs directly. Otherwise reinstall the MSI.
  5. I asked just to be sure. Did you allready reinstalled the Compatibility Pack with "Windows 2000 SP4" mode set on Fileformatconverter?
  6. @Dave-H Are you sure you have a real DOCX-file? If you open the file with 7-zip you should see something like the first picture. This a DOC-file after converting to DOCX with FileFormatConverter (this time from my Windows 10 64-bit installation where I am using Office XP for now). All dates/ times of the files inside the folders are the same: 1980-01-01 00:00 Second picture is the original DOC-file.
  7. @Dave-H I am absolutely sure CTFMON.EXE is NOT installed with the Compatibility Pack. About Save As doc-file: it´s not clear to me what happening. On my system I see following dialog after clicking SaveAs... in the Context Menu of a docx-file: Please describe your problem a bit more in detail.
  8. I am almost sure its possible With latest KernelEx version I had to set MOC.EXE in "Windows 95" compat mode. Without there wasn´t even a Save As Dialog box. With original Kernelex it worked out-of-the-box, only the NT4-trick I found out, was needed for conversion of Excel-files. BTW: better disable CTFMON.EXE if not needed, see: https://web.archive.org/web/20031001031315/http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q282599
  9. @Dave-H KernelEx Compatibility mode "Windows NT 4.0 SP6" should be set for: EXCELCNV.EXE and can be helpfull with EXCELCNVPXY.DLL. KernelEx Compatibility mode "Windows 2000 SP4" should be set for: WORDCONV.EXE and MSO.DLL (both already set this way by Xeno86! MSO.DLL is in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12 "), and if needed for WORDCNVPXY.CNV and MSVCR80.DLL (MSVCR80.DLL is in "%Windir%\System") KernelEx Compatibility mode "Windows 95" can be tried for MOC.EXE (the "Save As..." Explorer dialogue). You can play a bit with some settings, but the settings for MSO.DLL and EXCELCNV.EXE are mandatory (as far as I tested).
  10. @Dave-H: The Excel-conversion is sometimes sloppy. Set KernelEx Compatibility mode "Windows NT 4.0 SP6" for EXCELCNVPXY.DLL too, may be helpfull. About the SaveAs... in Explorer, it's not really needed unless you have to convert files without use of MSOffice. But I think setting KernelEx Compatibility mode "Windows 95" for MOC.EXE will help. Both files are normally in the folder "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12"
  11. @Dave-H: Great job! Is the Excel-conversion working too with Office XP?
  12. I suggest first to check CORE.INI, resides in the KernelEx folder.
  13. I understand, but you should be. What you described means the Compatibility Pack isn't working anymore. So the Compatibility Pack will not serve converting DOCX with Office XP either. With KernelEx and the right Kex compatibility modes/ right files, FileformatConverter IS compatible with Windows 98se for converting Office 2007 Word/ Excel files in combination with Office XP.
  14. @Dave-H: you are addressing different issues (in my opinion). So FileformatConverter SP2 is working: in that case you can convert DOC to DOCX and back choosing SaveAs... after a right-click on a DOC/ DOCX file in Explorer. Is this the case? BTW: don't use MSOffice in this test.
  15. @Dave-H: Is NT2K in your list of [ApiConfigurations] in CORE.INI? FileformatConverter SP2 should work! Else: to isolate the problem right click on a DOC-file, choose SaveAs and try to save as DOCX.
  16. @Dave-H: If you are using KernelEx' CORE.INI v.20e, be sure NT2K is in the list [ApiConfigurations] (and in the Aliases of course).
  17. @Dave-H: did you check all needed Kernelex compatibility modes? Check if the following files run still in Kernelex "Windows 2000 sp4" mode: Mso.dll and Wordconv.exe; if there are problems with "save as docx" from inside Word set Wordcnvpxy.cnv in "Windows 2000 sp4" compatibility mode, probably Msvcr80.dll too. Opening xlsx-files in Excel XP is possible with the following workaround: run Excelcnv.exe in Kernelex "Windows NT 4.0 sp6" compatibility mode. Xlsx-files opens now in Excel, if Office XP is not fully updated xlsx-files will open as xxxxxxxx.xls.
  18. I tested XXHD.SYS with read-ahead buffer starting with 20MB cache, standalone (version 2018-16-12). Copying is about 0,5 MB/sec. faster than older version where read-ahead buffer starts with 50MB cache. In the meantime there are already five newer versions. I could download the last one only: 2019-04-21. Read-ahead buffer should start with 10MB cache. Good News! Bad News: this version gives big problems with Windows 98se on my system. Booting Windows is not possible, or takes 15 minutes or longer and Drive operations are a problem. The newer versions have different "LBA48/LBA28 I/O opcodes" (according to the Readme). After completely disabling my Big IDE-HDD (500MB), normal booting/ copying is possible again (disabling ESDI_506.PDR made no difference). Copying is about 1 MB/sec. faster than older version where read-ahead buffer starts with 50MB cache. Luckily the 2018-16-12 version is latest of the seven versions on archive.org: https://web.archive.org/web/20181020053006/http://optimizr.dyndns.org/dos/drivers.html
  19. @~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: I am sorry, your HDA codec is still not detected. Maybe try after setting Verbinterface=$0 in HDACFG.INI, but I doubt somehow that things will change.
  20. @~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: your memory settings are as expected. About the Runtime error you reported (202, not 20 isn't it?), it's definitive related to HDA2.DLL. You can try extreme low Vcache settings first. Boot in Safe Mode and set in SYSTEM.INI [Vcache] MinFileCache=1024 MaxFileCache=1024 If after reboot HDACFG.INI has been changed, please attach file together with HDALOG.TXT.
  21. @jumper: the lower of the two values. Without HDATSR.EXE there must be some memory left, "out of the reach of Windows" (for the DMA buffer). Tested on Windows 98se, total memory limited to 1GB with HimemX. @~♥Aiko♥Chan♥~: your codec is still not detected, how much memory shows Device Manager?
  22. Well done. Next steps: 1) Add to SYSTEM.INI [386Enh] MaxPhysPage=3E6FF (if the entrance already exists with a higher value, change to 3E6FF. If the existing value is lower, report first and do nothing). 2) Change in HDACFG.INI SleepingWidget=$03 Output Widget=$03 and VolumeWidget=$06 3) Add to HDACFG.INI [BUSMASTER] myPCIHI=$3E82 myPCILO=$0000 myPCI=$3E820000 aPCIHI=$3E81 aPCILO=$0000 aPCI=$3E810000 Please reboot TWICE and listen with headphones during boot for the slightest click or plop. Please attach latest HDACFG.INI and HDALOG.TXT.
  23. I warned you, HDATSR won't work in plain Windows ME ! If you like to continue with this driver, use ONLY HDA2.DLL and the entrance in SYSTEM.INI I gave you. The two files I mentioned should be there after reboot, and will reside in your Windows directory.
  24. Best start simple. Copy only HDA2.DLL to your SYSTEM-directory and add to SYSTEM.INI [Drivers] WAVEHDA=HDA2.DLL After reboot search for HDACFG.INI and HDALOG.TXT and attach both files.
