  1. Classic taskbar, control panel and menus are way better than those stupid "modern" UI that takes half of the screen on a 15.6 inch laptop!!! Vista can be thaught to use the TRIM command on an SSD using third party software. I see you have 12 gb of ram which is really great when using a newer version on windows such as vista, 7 or 8; in my opinion anything less than 2 gb is going to drive the HDD and you mad! The only real thing against Vista is the limitation to IE9! Your NIC should problaby be a realtek one! Go to their website and download the latest driver using another PC and you should be all good to go! I found the network controller, but HP only gives windows 7 drivers for it. EDIT: also found the one for xp o,0 still no vista though.
  2. Hmm interesting any other reasons that I should know before I make vista perniment. I have decided to stay with vista but their is an issue. I can't connect to the internet. Device manager gives me an error sign next to the Ethernet adapter, and the network adapter despite installing them. This is my computers specs when I a benchmark when Win 7 was installed. ( The windows vista install is also 64bit but not home premium ) EDIT: I need the Network controller (forgot to say but this is an HP computer, just threw that in their in case you need it) EDIT: A google search found my Computer http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02174835 which is an HP Pavilion p6510y deskptop found all drivers their if I need help still I post here again ( make another edit if none post ) EDIT: having trouble finding drivers still, also too tired to continue on (1 am). Whom ever reads this can you please find the drivers.

  4. Long story short I tried dual booting windows vista and windows 7(two different harddrives), but acidetnly installed vista on my windows 7 harddrive. (I picked out the wrong harddrive from my computer used to dual boot 7 and 8) Going back to windows 7 is not what I want (I really like vista) and since I was going to get rid of 8 I wont bother dual booting it with vista. Curious though what major signifigance is their between vista and 7 that I should worry about. (If their is anything to worry about) I dont have any major reason to go back since all of my files from windows 7 were saved, and all my games work with vista and up.
  5. Title states all. Supposed to happen in 2012 (december) but happened sometime between (feb 5 -15 of 2014 "obviously")
  6. Wow I have no idea what to say or how to respond to everyone. (sorry if I offended anyone for being offended "Paradox") Though I think this tread is obsolete now since I got the adapter running by doing a fresh Win Me install on my old 98 computer (actually a custom xp computer) with the same hard-drive (120gig). I know different computers different specs, but I'm curious why it didn't work easily on my Pentium (specs somewhere around this forum, except CPU which was 500mh) while on my first try it worked on the custom xp computer, though I still don't like the fable thing (I'll get over it besides I need that site anyway for Ollydbg) EDIT: found that after doing any install that messed with the system folders (ex: avast install, sound drivers, ect) that when it would break but an easy uninstall than reinstall fixes it.
  7. I'm done here. Auf Wiedersehen.
  8. Thanks man Thanks I'll put them there and see what happens Will an anti-virus program do this when I freshly installed it? Really cause the ONE time it did work was because I used that renamed .vxd file , but maybe thats why it broke after installing avast...

  10. Sorry for a late reply but I have been busy with school and yet another snowstorm. Actually everything you stated is true I'm terrible at asking questions, writing, and EXPLAINING. OT My English teacher is always yelling at me for not asking for help, but what makes it so hard to ask is I understand the thing (like a writing assignment) but cant translate it into proper words and syntax which makes really sense and all that gives me a massive headache. Thanks for the Déjà vu. (The way I wrote this probably seems like I'm angry at you but I am not and really glad that you pointed it out and tried to help you really are smart) I hope this clears up everything. If I still don't properly explain I'm really sorry please forgive me Yes it is a usb network adapter why? As said I did make it quite confusing and I'm sorry I'll give it another shot. I have been trying to install the WUSB54ag onto my windows me computer. (so I can connect to the internet) The way you are supposed to do it is first install software than plug in adapter, but for me that doesn't work. (I used first setup you see not the setup in utilities *this is initially*) After looking in the drivers folder I noticed that the WUSB54AG.sys was misplaced a folder back. (suspicious maybe ) Though I also noticed that the .vxd and .sys files were the same so I just copied the .vxd and changed the name of the copied one and made it a .sys. (also it was newer than the .sys they gave) I then gave up on the initial exe install and the way you are supposed to install the adapter and decided to try hardware first then software. After a while windows finally said that that the adapter was installed correctly instead of having an issue. And after using the setup in the utility folder the adapter finally worked. Unfortunately It broke a short while later when I installed avast without restart immediately. (when prompt to) Though this let me know it wasn't a software issue. I confirmed it when I installed the software (after uninstalling the adapter) and seeing that it was disabled when the hardware was said to be installed incorrectly but when the hardware was said to be installed correctly it wasn't disabled (obviously). The Linksys WUSB54ag only has one version that I'm are of. So that why I need to know how to manually insert these files. I hope that this explanation was better. OT If you want to know the first reason I can post a video, but the video is long so... ya
  11. Why don't you use windows server 2008 the first one is based of of vista and is supported till 2020. (though I don't blame you for choosing vista I'm a vista user myself)
  12. As my title states I need help manually inserting the files (WUSB54AG.sys, and WUSB54AG.vxd) into their respective folders. (these are files for the hardware not the software) I found that both versions of the wusb54g (wusb54g ,and wusb54ag) had all of their files for windows 9x purposely renamed and moved around the install folder to mess up .exe installer. It doesn't help that after fixing the "folder issue" that windows me (and 98se) after using the windows driver file placer (Prob named it wrong please give the name for it) keeps on stating that the adapter has been installed wrong. The thing is though is that it does work since I did get it to work using windows driver file placer (seriously am I calling it wrong) once after fixing the folder issue. Unfortunately it did brake after installing avast and not doing an immediate restart (downloading flash at the time). So if anyone knows were to place these files can you tell me where. (another reason why to hate Cisco )
  13. I was asking about K-meleon compatibility with windows 9x series (The new K-melon that is based of of gecko 24). [Also google has been putting that message up for a while now and I think it will be supported for a while since firefox 3.xx still owns a little more than 2.5% of Firefox's market (16-21%) which is 11,295,00 million people (not that big of a #) of the 450 million people that use firefox (which is much bigger than the 40,000 that still use windows 98] Not only that but firefox 3.6.28 scored 96/100 on the acid test so user agent spoofing is a very good option.
  14. I remember back in 2011 I could still purchase from Amazon and Ebay using K-Meleon 1.5.4 and SeaMonkey 1.1.19, with javscript enabled too! Now, those websites destroy those browsers. Ebay doesn't function at all without javscript, but amazon still has a presentable website. I haven't actually attempted to order anything on Amazon though in a couple years. Can't purchase nothing at home now. I go to the library and use the latest Firefox for making purchases. Getting back to your main point, yes, Firefox 3.6 is almost toast. I actually prefer to stick with Firefox 2 based browsers, since I'm on dial up. They load 5x quicker. The difference is that Firefox 3.x sits there and loads ALL t he images before rendering the page. Firefox 2 will load the text, render the basic design of the page, then slowly fill in the graphics. It's the complete opposite with FF 3. I guess maybe they do load nearly the same, but it creates the illusion of slowness. Plus, FF3 is just way bulkier anyway. The tradeoff on dial up approaches nil. I will only use FF 3.6 if I need to read a website real bad. And that's it, I'm through with Opera (good riddance). I use K-Meleon 1.5.4 and SeaMonkey 1.1.19 for everyday use, and in case of emergencies FireFox 3.6.28. Has anyone tried the new K-Meleon on windows 9x (its based off of firefox 24) I'm really curious to see how it will perform being a "modern" browser like firefox 3.6.28. I also agree with @Andrew T. choice of browser. I'm switching from win98 to Me and fell in love with Opera 10.63 for its speed and ability to add ad blocking url filter with out an add-on.
  15. There already is and its called mobile websites, and in a current growing mobile based INTERNET ( <--- spell check being weird) all sites will have a mobile form soon. Unfortunately some people don't want that like here http://mobile.smashingmagazine.com/2012/04/19/why-we-shouldnt-make-separate-mobile-websites/ though this persons argument agrees with your ideas so either way all device websites will happen one way or another.
  16. You could if using a Firefox type browser (netscape and others) download an add-on to trick a website (google in this case) so that you can browse the site normally. EDIT: Tried it on Netscape 9 and it did work ** some sites didn't render properly but thats the browser fault (it is from 2007) ** I shall now try it on Firefox 3.6.28 to see how well it works their. ( Add-on = user agent switcher " latest one works on netscape") EDIT 2: Used Firefox 24 user agent string and loaded up youtube and avast it worked. (firefox 3.6.28)
  17. Which part in the word "prototype" are you having difficulties with? http://www.thefreedictionary.com/prototype Or in the bolded parts below? jaclaz Geez I must be really tired I read both articles and still managed to miss important info . (thanks super bowl) Cursed snow storm here didn't help either but back on to topic as stated in my edit Can't wait
  18. @jody if I recall properly you said that you were a sea monkey user. Sea monkey has its own mail client too. ( I bet you know that though ) EDIT: heres a list of 11 free Email programs http://email.about.com/od/windowsemailclients/tp/free_email_prog.htm and heres another site full of free alternatives http://alternativeto.net/software/mozilla-thunderbird/?license=free&platform=windows&tag=email-client When I was doing some quick searching around for small fast mail clients this one was talked about alot i.Scribe/InScribe Email Client (free) **never used it**
  19. Theoretically couldn't any version of NT 6.xx be used with modifications? (like modified windows 8/8.1 updates)
  20. Could they give it a case having all the parts exposed looks cool but quite dangerous for the laptop. EDIT : personally though I like the idea behind it. Now people don't have to be deadlocked into certain peripherals.
  21. Everybody (including Dedoimedo in the links above) seems to rave about EMET, but our family's experience with it has been much less than stellar. As I wrote back then, "User beware." If only I or if only my wife had had a problem using it, that'd be one thing, but both of us (on separate computers using different versions of Windows) had bad experiences with it. --JorgeA Hmm interesting mixed feelings huh. Alright I guess I'll give it a try and see which team I'll be on.
  22. The only death I fear unless Microsoft gets its act together is windows 7. If M$ stays metro the death of 7 will mean the death of windows as we know it. EDIT: what do you guys also think about Microsoft EMET. How good is it if its good?
  23. I don't know if its just me but I find that the windows operating systems regarded as junk or beta os's were actually hidden jems (except for 8/8.1). I'm starting my switch from windows 98se to windows me after testing it with its unofficial service pack, and I always loved vista. I have been using vista from the start and glad too. I use both vista and 7 on a day to day use and prefer vista. Sadly I have only one vista machine left and she is going for a case change. ( She's a laptop) I accidentally dropped her and shattered her monitor but after testing her on a differ monitor I found that she if perfectly fine . Till then Im stuck with 7 and 98. ( cursed wusb54g never working with any of my computers )
  24. It wont matter if its a good release or not but it will mater if its better than 8. If its not I think they might increase windows 7 mainstream support a bit just to keep their customers.
