  1. Looking good! Thanks for flipping the switch! -Noel
  2. My understanding is that the forum editor is a module that can be swapped out, but I don't know the specifics. Xper has said something about having tried to swap in a module that does BBCode, so it's possible that may bring along with it an editing capability with a font selector as well - but you'll need to hear the specifics from him. -Noel
  3. I don't know that you'd call this a "bug" exactly, but it's now taking something like 9 seconds for the forum to display my stream: The stream is nothing special... I'm going to try to set it to 7 days to try to speed it up, which of course will cause potentially interesting information to fall beyond the horizon if I don't happen to come back within a week. But the root issue is that what's shown above is not really what I want to see, since it dredges up a big list of posts. Trouble is, there's apparently no way to set the output so that I could see what would be most useful: A list of TOPICS that I've posted in and which have had activity most recently. That was doable with the prior forum software, but I don't see a way to achieve it now. This could just be unfamiliarity on my part with the new board capabilities. Does anyone know a way to get a list of TOPICS I've posted in, sorted newest on top, with links to the most recent posts in each? Oh, and Jorge, you can use an external editor - e.g., Word - to create a post in any font you'd like. Just paste in in. That's not ideal - it would be best if the editor here allowed font selection - but it could serve in a pinch if you just can't get a thought right without Comic Sans. -Noel
  4. What do you mean "not now"? When I installed 14279 to test my re-tweaker script, I got Cortana - and the script promptly removed it. The known problem with the script, and I honestly haven't taken a moment more to try to figure it out, is that if you have a second user on the system (i.e., not just your one administrative user), then the Remove-AppXPackage command fails to remove the Apps. -Noel
  5. I've seen that mentioned elsewhere as a bug, but I'm not sure it is... It appears to be an attempt at limiting the number of icons that can be shown, and the arrows can scroll the tray sideways. It seems to me that a limit to the number of visible icons at any one time in the System Tray goes against the original idea that you could have a whole lot of them there - presumably showing you status and allowing quick access to things - if you didn't hide them. I minimize the number of tray icons myself to just 1 visible (Sound volume) and 3 hidden so I don't see those arrows on my test system. Note that the Notifications icon doesn't count since it doesn't live inside the scrollable / hideable area. Is this Microsoft's way of saying, "We no longer want you to use the System Tray, so we're making it ugly to incentivize you to hide all your icons"? -Noel
  6. Looks like the whole bar is being colored per the text color. Compare to this, as rendered in IE11: -Noel
  7. So you did - I missed it. Sorry. For what it's worth, this is what mine shows: [2016-03-14 07:47:38][0x618:0x61C] Installing DWM hook... 8. There should be a log already in your AeroGlass directory called debug.log. I'm guessing that Big Muscle might want to see what's in that file. The forum allows you to attach files to a thread via a little rectangle just below the edit window. If it's large, you could make a copy of it and use Notepad or similar to cut out the entries prior to the time of your last few bootups, so as to keep the file size smaller. -Noel
  9. It might help to post screen grabs of what you're seeing, if you can. And don't forget to post a note in: -Noel
  10. FYI, xper, another minor buglet: Ignored users' posts do show up in the Streams output - at least in my user-defined stream... -Noel
  11. Is there a limit? I know there was one with the last version of the forum software (as I recall it was stated on screen), but the interface was so clunky it wasn't really attractive to try to use. The current one allows a full-sized screen grab. Nice! You're right, I haven't started complaining. Unlike some... -Noel
  12. That's certainly something that should be thought-through... How much does a gigabyte of storage cost nowadays? Not much - maybe about 2 cents US (a quick search turns up a 4 TB WD drive for $90 US). With the current half megabyte limit, that would be 2,000 max-sized images per gigabyte, but on average they won't all be pushing that limit. I've posted 5 so far in the past half-day, but they averaged about 75 kbytes each. Some tens of millions of images would fit on that 4 TB drive. It might just not turn out to be a practical problem. The social networking world has grown past pure text communications. Beyond still images, actually - phone users are sharing "mini-videos" nowadays. The ability to easily post things here like screen grabs will IMO increase the quality level of communications. That's somewhat intangible, but a high quality of information is what makes a web forum attractive... -Noel
  13. Don't get me wrong, I would have been able to continue to use the old MSFN just fine. I didn't ask for change, but that doesn't mean I can't deal with it. And there are some things that ARE better. For example, that I can upload images directly to show screen grabs is fantastic. I don't have to push them to my own web site any more. Also, pages seem to load faster. I see a lot fewer individual http requests on average. Now that change is upon us, it gives us all a chance to exercise our neuroplasticity. Unpleasant as that can be, it's actually healthy. I'm betting you'll be posting like a boss inside a day. -Noel
  14. It doesn't work fine. There are visual glitches all over it, and the theme atlas layout process doesn't work at all, so one of the most important features is unavailable. Instead of this... ...you see stuff like this... The more appropriate phrase is "barely hanging together". If symbols actually ARE loaded, it tends to just lock up. Seems to be a case of "Big Muscle did his best at building a self-adjusting hook, but just couldn't anticipate all of what Microsoft would do next". I suggest not trying to use it at all with pre-release builds, or at best just accept the incompatibility notice (and don't allow symbols to load). -Noel
  15. I wonder if CSS could make the vertical spacing of a "new line" and "paragraph" closer together (so that single- and double-spacing, using the ancient lingo, are just more dense). I have to say, from my perspective I don't mind the relatively tall vertical spacing, but I tend to use browser windows that are the size and shape of a normal sheet of paper (which I think is probably uncommon), so I don't feel the space crunch as much. -Noel
  16. Since you have asked for flaming, I'm happy to oblige. (no "mischief" emoticon I can see in the standard list, need a devil smiley) I think you may be straddling the line between "something's wrong" and "resistance to change", jaclaz. If you type tomes of text, it's a bit easier to type a new paragraph just by pressing Enter once. It's still possible to use Shift-Enter to do a single-spaced line, as I have done here, and this is more consistent with other tools/sites. Not having much trouble Making a numbered list Here, using the button And A bulleted list seems equally easy to create Font manipulation seems possible. Code in a Code Box seems readable, and can be edited with double-click. :: :TOOLS_ERROR :: ECHO. ECHO ERROR: Not all the tools needed could be found. GOTO CLEAN_UP I had some problems editing the line following the code box, then it started working, so that's a bit quirky. -Noel
  17. Looks like you can get to the signature through Account Settings... -Noel
  18. Wow, coincidentally... I was checking my firewall logs, and I noticed my well-behaved Win 7 system that functions as a small business server pushed up against the firewall a few times early this morning... 6:03:22 - the Windows Activation Technologies service (watadminsvc.exe) tried to contact 23.14.84.162:80 6:03:33 - the Windows Activation Technologies service (watadminsvc.exe) tried to contact 23.14.84.163:80 6:03:33 - the Windows Activation Technologies service (watadminsvc.exe) tried to contact 23.14.84.171:80 6:03:38 - the Windows Activation Technologies service (watadminsvc.exe) tried to contact 23.14.184.154:80 6:03:43 - the Windows Activation Technologies service (watadminsvc.exe) tried to contact 23.62.165.99:80 6:03:48 - a service running under svchost with LOCAL SERVICE credentials tried to contact 23.14.84.162:80 6:03:48 - a service running under svchost with LOCAL SERVICE credentials tried to contact 23.14.84.163:80 10:39:53 - a service running under svchost with my logon credentials tried to contact 23.14.84.163:80 Keeping in mind this is a properly licensed machine that's permanently activated, I decided to look into why it would do this. Apparently it's trying to check to see whether Microsoft has decided my license is no longer valid. Specifically, the "Windows Activation Technologies" service was delivered by an old Windows Update: KB971033 The funny coincidence is that this is the very first update that listed to be hidden/avoided on that Aegis page. -Noel
  19. Using your analogy, I just don't go into the room, as the door is pretty clearly marked "Abandon all hope ye who enter here". The room I'm already in is brightly lit and cheerful. Trust me, if I had ideas how to deal with it I'd let you (and the world) know here. It occurred to me that if Microsoft has built one set of source code that contains both GWX components and security fixes, it may just be possible the two are inextricably linked. Not that they HAVE to be linked, but they may well be just owing to the way Microsoft's programmers work. Never forget, these are not the brightest candles in the room any longer. Up above, I was just trying to give perspective. I've long believed that the security FUD machine is leading up to this moment, when Microsoft tries to turn their old shoddy work into a reason people find it NECESSARY to accept their new shoddy work. -Noel
  20. And so it has come down to it... A choice between "Security" and "Functionality". Does the Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt inflicted by such statements as "Maximum Security Impact: Remote Code Execution" and "Aggregate Severity Rating: Critical" outweigh the downside of allowing Microsoft's unwanted programming into your system? Presumably the reduction of that fear is the reason for wanting something like MS16-023. Let's think about this for a minute... What do we fear more? Here we have Microsoft KNOWN to be loading unwanted "GET WINDOWS 10" functionality into our systems. I haven't seen full and complete documentation describing exactly what that does, have you? But even without knowing whether it's seriously malicious or just an annoyance, those of us continuing to use perfectly viable, permanently activated operating systems on our still quite viable computers and who have not already taken advantage of the "FREE! UPGRADE!!!" clearly don't want Windows 10. I mean, I guess there could be the odd person just returning from a year-long African safari who doesn't know about Windows 10 yet, but... The rest of us already know we don't want it, and why. It boils down to this: WHOSE Remote Code Execution should we allow, then? Microsoft, definitely loading unwanted malware - the devil we know - or the potential risk of some malware author loading up just the right stuff on just the right web site and our browser succumbing to infection. Sorry to burst Microsoft's FUD bubble, but that risk is not 100%! If it were, we'd all have been infected long ago via all the vulnerabilities that were (and still are) in the system. And, there's something else to think about... There is always the unquestioned assumption that these "security updates" are perfect. That they correct the bug perfectly without ANY downsides. No negative performance impact, no new security flaws introduced... All good, right? Are Microsoft's programmers actually capable of that? They weren't when they wrote the code that's being patched... -Noel
  21. Xper, double-spacing paragraphs is a good start. Thanks! -Noel
  22. You may have confused me with someone who can merge or move posts. And with all due respect with regard to "same thing everywhere", I wasn't talking to you. Don't assume that everyone reads everything everywhere (although in fairness, jaclaz probably does). You should probably expect some chatter all over the place after a major update like this. My advice to you is to ignore it. Oh, and thank you very much for working to resolve issues! -Noel
  23. Assuming you're referring to the fairly large list of questionable updates, what in particular catches your eye? That there are a lot of them, going quite a ways back? I guess one person's opinion as to what updates to keep and what ones to avoid will differ from another's. I have completely telemetry-free, GWX-free, and stable systems yet I haven't hidden nearly that many updates. I have to admit, my systems aren't pushing up against the firewall because the telemetry software is respecting my settings choices (many made in the registry, without overt settings available). Perhaps that Aegis list leads to a system that needs not to be reconfigured at all to STFU. -Noel
  24. An illustrated bug report stating fact in the thread created for reporting bugs is not really "pressure" I don't think. I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to just list the threads I've participated in, sorted by date of most recent post. The closest I've gotten is a list of recently made posts via an Activity Stream, but it lists every post AND it's not limited to those I care most about. Still on that quest... -Noel
  25. Thanks for the workaround, but I think I'll just complain for now and see whether the root cause can be addressed. -Noel
