  1. Yes, the file in Microsoft Download Center is identical to file downloaded from Windows Update. Official download page is here: Security Update for Flash Player (KB913433) Supported Operating Systems: Windows XP Service Pack 1; Windows XP Service Pack 2, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT. Security bulletin: MS06-020 Apparently it installs Flash version 6.0.84. Petr Yup, the KB913433 update installs Macromedia Flash Player v6.0.84 ONLY if you have a version of Flash Player earlier than that (such has Flash 5 or earlier builds of Flash 6). It will NOT work if you have Flash Player 7 or greater (or no Flash Player installed). those using Flash Player 7 should install Flash Player 7.0.63 to fix the latest security problems. And those using Flash Player 8 should upgrade to Flash Player 8.0.24. if you have no version of Flash Player installed in the \system\Macromed\ folder or \system32\Macromed\ folder (or if any of those folders do not exist), extract the INSTALL_FP6_WU.EXE file from the KB913433 patch and run the INSTALL_FP6_WU.EXE file to install Flash Player 6.0.84. thanks. though I can only use the DSL connection on my brother's XP SP2 laptop. he'll have to buy a wireless router so I can also use the DSL connection on my WinME desktop computer in my room which no longer has an internet connection. I wont be able to update my web pages for several days since I store my pages on my desktop PC and the laptop has NO floppy disk drive. guess I'll have to buy an external USB floppy drive and connect it to the USB port on my bro's laptop, then save copies of my pages from the desktop PC to the floppy disk and then put the disk into the usb floppy drive and copy them onto the laptop. BTW - KB908531 (MS06-015) is still NOT available for Win98/ME as I've checked the Windows Update site today. Looks like we'll have to wait 'til June (or even July 11) for KB908531 patches for Win98 & ME to be ready. also MDGx, see this page on optimizing DSL/Cable connections: http://cable-dsl.home.att.net/

    KB838804

what win2k hotfix has ntfs.sys v5.00.2195.7050? kb889681 has ntfs.sys build 6993 & kb885294 has ntfs.sys build 6973. i've searched for ntfs.sys build 7050 at the microsoft support search site and can't find it. UPDATE: ok I found the KB article that has ntfs.sys build 7050; it's MS KB article 896674. searched for it from Yahoo site. The MS support search site is less intelligent than their main search site and the yahoo search site.
  3. That is not included - yes, I need it /G B) PS - @-I- - Cool - I might need some compression stats later on I have sent the KB139071 win2k hotfix to MDGx and it's mentioned on his web site. you can get it here directly: http://www.mdgx.com/files/2K139071.EXE I havent been able to use my email for several days since my brother and I paid for a high speed DSL internet connection last week.
  4. you said it, PsycoUnc. MDGx might want to remove the KB826501 IEDKCS32.DLL 16.00.2800.1245 patch for IE6 SP1. I got the newer IEDKCS32.DLL KB893627 patch from Petr and it's version 16.00.2800.1500. BTW -- my brother got & paid for the DSL internet connection yesterday. now we got high-speed internet and we can use the net and the phone at the same time.
  5. actually Eck, Windows Update should still function for Win98/ME systems even past july 2006 including ME's Automatic Updates feature. PsycoUnc has very good points about unofficial fixes included in the ME service pack.
  6. MDGx may want to edit the statement on his IE page that says "URLMON.DLL 6.00.2800.1537 (RTM)/6.00.2800.1538 (QFE) installed by MS06-013 MS IE 6.0 SP1 Patch for Windows 98/98 SE/ME corrupts MS Windows Update (WU) and/or MS WU Catalog (WUC) and/or MS Office Update (OU)!" IE 6 SP1 KB912812 patch for Win2000 SP4/XP SP1 may also have the problem because it too has the flawed URLMON.DLL file. Ditto for the KB912812 patch for IE 5.01 SP4/Win2000 SP4. The XP SP2 and W2K3 SP1 versions of KB912812 do not have the problematic URLMON.DLL files as WU [Windows Update] and OU [Office Update] download & install ActiveX controls correctly and does display the Information Bar in IE. And MS KB article 909889 should also be added onto there (contains registry fix): http://support.microsoft.com/?id=909889
  7. mr_bumbles, see the following MS kb articles: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=909889 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=909738 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=906294 and apply ALL registry fixes found in those three articles. For 909889 create the IE909889.reg file in Notepad and enter the following in between the --- lines: --- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="ClassMoniker" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32] @="ole32.dll" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID] @="clsid" --- also re-install HTML Help KB896358 update. see if these will help resolve your problem.
  8. I think I may consider un-installing the IE6 SP1 KB912812 patch off my ME computer and will install the KB905915 patch instead so the IE6 SP1 browser can have the ability to properly download & install ActiveX controls again so I can get the ActiveX controls from Office Update and Windows Update.
  9. I agreee too that this topic should be a "sticky" one and should be listed at the very top of this forum. I think I'm going to post back some of the IE KB905915 patches on my IE Updates page, especially the IE6 SP1 version. about the problem Eck had with KB912812, I have also verified the problem to occur on my WinME computer with IE6 SP1. on the other hand, the KB912812 IE update for WinXP SP2 worked fine on my bro's XP SP2 laptop machine with no problems.
  10. I wish you have used the Add/Remove programs app to remove IE update 912812 first before installing 905915 update, Eck. that would have been a much smarter decision. at least the latest IE patches can be removed from Add/Remove programs regardless of what Windows version being used. note that you can only remove the most recently installed IE patch from Add/Remove programs and you cant remove older IE patches. after installing build 1525 of urlmon.dll file, use Winzip to extract all the files from the IE6 SP1 KB905915 patch onto a temporary folder. From the temp folder type in "IEUPDATE.EXE /D Q905915" in the Run dialog box. This will make the KB905915 patch for IE6 SP1 install the RTMQFE version of the files inside and the installer will use the MSPATCHA.DLL file to "patch" build 1525 of the URLMON.DLL file and it will become 1526. You will need to restart the computer in order to use 1526 of the urlmon.dll file, even if the IE update does not tell you to restart the computer since this method I described only manually installs the updated files with no prompt to restart the computer. I have done a test of the IE KB912812 updates on my WinME computer and on my brother's XP SP2 laptop. I had experienced the same problem that you had when not being asked to install ActiveX controls on the WinME machine. HOWEVER, when I tested the KB912812 IE update for XP SP2, I did NOT have the problem. IE would display the Information Bar in xp sp2 telling me whether I should install an activex control or not. I chose to install the ActiveX control and IE would ask me whether I should install the control or not. looks like the problem seems to occur in IE6 SP1 only and not under IE6 for XP SP2 and Win2k3 SP1. guess the problem can also occur for IE6 SP1 under WinXP SP1 because IE6 SP1 does not have the Information Bar feature that is included in XP SP2 and W2K3 SP1.
  11. um, I will have to check to see if Riched20.dll v5.4 would work under a Win95 [Yes, a Windows 95] machine. V5.4 of RICHED20.DLL is from Office XP and Office XP is not compatible with Win95 (last version of MS Office supported under Win95 is Office 2000). I'll let everyone know if RICHED20.DLL Ver. 5.40.11.2218 works okay under Win95.
  12. Hi Gurgelmeyer. sorry I wasnt able to follow up my old topic about the FP2k KB838018 hotfix. I was busy in the other side of the MSFN forums site. wonder if the KB139071 OLE automation hotfix is or will be included in your unofficial Win2k SP5 pack. Files are build 4528; replaces the previous 4526 build from KB886765. MS KB article 139071: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/139071 I have this Win2k hotfix. someone sent it to me. let me know if you need it.
  13. Petr has obtained new fixes for Win98/2k/ME/XP and IE6 SP1 including the newer OLE Automation 2.40.4528 Q139071 update for Win2000. the newer oleaut32.dll file v2.40.4528 still has the same problems as oleaut32.dll file v2.40.4526 as I have tested on a Win98 and WinME computer. so MDGx should keep version 2.40.4522 of the oleaut32.dll file but should include the other files with build 4528.
  14. actually now eidenk, the links I posted do work...ALWAYS! at least from where I am. they worked all the time in all the web browsers I've tested today. if they dont work it means the macromedia server is busy or overloaded or your internet connection isnt working good. Eck, KB905915 for IE6 SP1 also has URLMON.DLL version 6.00.2800.1526 if the 905915 patch installed the RTMQFE edition of the files and the QFEInstalled registry entry was there in Regedit instead of the usual RTMGDR version.
  15. they definitely work for me. if the macromedia server doesnt work it means it is probably busy and you should try again later. here are links to Adobe/Macromedia Flash Player 7 for users who are using relatively slow computers and for those using Win95/NT4- Flash Player 7.0.63 for IE browsers: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...r7r63_winax.exe Flash Player 7.0.63 for non-IE browsers: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashpl...yer7r63_win.exe both contain the security fixes from Flash Player 8.0.24.
  16. Speaking of installing Adobe/MacroMedia Shockwave player, WinME users MUST use the FULL version of Shockwave player instead of the SLIM version because the Windows Millennium Edition Preview feature of ME requires some files that are included only from the full edition of Shockwave player. Note that IE update KB912812 is only available for IE6 SP1 under Win98/ME. New IE 5.5 SP2 updates are no longer being produced so there is no KB912812 patch for IE 5.5 SP2.
  17. Eck, i think you mean the newer fdisk.exe file from Q263044. yes some of the things Fred said might be inaccurate. i just hope some of you guys arent dissing my guy Fred.
  18. I have not noticed anything unusual but it was for short time only. Petr Yes there ARE pros AND cons of using kernel32.dll v4.10.2222 to v4.10.2225 under 98 FE as I've tested myself. Bad thing about this is that Win98 FE is now identified as Win98 version 4.10.2222 in MSInfo32 (system information app) and in the Dr. Watson tool. second bad thing is it prevents the installation of 98fe-specific updates like Q190715, Q192117, Q222903, etc. however using the 98se kernel under win98fe DOES allow installing 98 SE specific updates like Q239887, Q258680, Q273017, etc. had to switch back to 98FE kernel just to install the MS 98fe specific patches. looks like QTM7 will never work under 9xME systems. ditto for IE7. perhaps even the upcoming WMP 11 wont even run under 9x systems as well so dont bother making a pack that makes wmp11 run under 98se.
  19. we're getting there. INFEX.EXE will need to be modified to no longer show the Beta Testing Only dialog box in the RC & final releases.
  20. Not in this world. yea i mean forget it, guys. ie7 isnt designed for 9xME systems anyway so why bother. the 9xme era of windows is almost coming to an end.
  21. sorry Wijono. It is NOT possible to have the Lock Taskbar feature in Win9x systems by only replacing some Windows system files with the XP system files. you could ruin your 9x system that way (or cause 9x to have BSODs or even lockups). better off by just using RPLite4; you can get it here: http://rapidshare.de/files/13278307/RPl4Update.zip.html it's not that big, so you should be able to download this file without any problems. Tihiy, I have created an INF file that will automate the update process when installing the updated files from the RPLite4 Update archive [requires original Rplite4 pack installed]. <ok never mind what was here previously; get RPLite5 instead>
  22. The MS06-015 security updates for win2k/xp/2k3 have been revised to include the registry fixes. no changes with the shell32.dll files. And still the MS06-015 updates for win98/me have not been posted. oh well. wait until the middle of May [or June] for the MS06-015 patches for Win98/ME. About unofficial Jet 4.0 SP8 KB837001 patch for WinME; be sure that NirCmd.exe is included so that it will shut down SFP before installing the Jet 4.0 files and do NOT let it reboot the computer.
  23. The unofficial WMF Patch by Paolo Monti is nice but it is a temporary solution. The unofficial KB912919 WMF fix for WinME is already included in the latest beta release of the ME service pack, so there is no need to add Monti's unofficial WMF patch onto the ME pack because the unofficial Q912919 patch made by an anonymous user is a long term fix. thanks anyway, app103.
  24. dont you get it, Petr? Adobe MADE the AR6.x software that way. They just dont want Adobe Acrobat 6 and Adobe Reader 6 to install AND run under older versions of Windows. PERIOD! You might want to ask Adobe systems as to why their Acrobat 6 and Acrobat Reader 6 software are not supported under 98fe and older versions of Windows.
