  1. All of you guys need some basic lessons on dual homing and multi-path routing......... O'Reilly has a excellent book on the subject.
  2. Yup, I'm looking for a Microsoft-mfgd XP SP0 (that's SP Zero, no patches, etc, etc) CD for an experiment at work. Did MS ever actually RTM XP at SP0 or was everything SP1?? thanks! Title Edited - Please follow new posting rules from now on. --Zxian
  3. There is actually a little-known Sempron 3000+, clocked at 2Gz, that has 512 Kb of cache. Very nice little CPU. Costs around $125 'on the street'. It's a Socket A, 130nm part. It's also the ONLY Sempron with 512 Kb of cache. Common Wisdom believes that this Sempron was originally an Athlon XP but was rebranded a Sempron when AMD created the Athlon64. http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/Produc...9_11604,00.html
  4. ***** and still having the problem of base not calling the finish or cleanup scripts........
  5. Here is the download page for the ESSTech web site: http://www.esstech.com/techsupp/drivers.shtm They have thoughfully broken out the drivers which are included in the WXP RTM distros from updates and new devices.
  6. Ok, I'm looking for a 1/2 height PCI card that will do: NTSC and HDTV (1080i) output from the PC via Svideo and DVI. Has good driver support for XP including dual monitor and 'stretched' multi-monitor desktop. The ability to take output from a media player and run it full screen is important. Video in/capture *or* CATV in (tuner and/or PVR) is NOT required. These are nice to have features, won't say no, but input isn't the point. Good output is. The form factor of 1/2 height is a pretty solid requirement due to the chassis/mobo combination I'm using to build the HTPC. As an alternative, I'd take a serious look at a USB 2.0 device with the needed tech capabilities. Suggestions appreciated!
  7. XP drivers for all cards G550 and newer (10+ models including PCIe cards) were updated at the begining of September. http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/latest/home.cfm
  8. UpdateChecker is now demanding that GraphicsA be at level 5.08..... Slipstreamer works fine.
  9. Update eror here too. Brief flash of the DOS box and then nothing. Running UpdateChecker from a previously-opened DOS box brings up the message 'no internet connection' and come complaint that wget can't find the internet.
  10. This little problem, (nForceXX driver installation) happens with most all of the nVidia driver releases. I've been kinf of hoping that between Bashrat, Nuhi, and Ryan one of these three smart guys would figure out WFT is happening with the drivers and find a unattended solution.
  11. The XP drivers are buried in the .zip http://www.asrock.com.tw/Drivers/SiS_Chips...Media(2042).zip

  13. Probably best to wait a few days/weeks until 2.0 goes GA. It's really that close. In the meantime, the current 2.0 beta2 has been quietly superceeded by two later builds (up to 1.9m130 now, 2.0b2 was really 1.9m125). The chatter in the developers area say that a real-live 2.0 RC should be ready Real Soon Now. The new installer for 2.0 has a lot of switches to enable silent installations under Windows. No sense building a custom package when the official release does the same thing.
  14. Ok, I'll interrupt everyone laughing at you..... Have you tried pressing the 'G' or 'R' keys on your keyboard?
  15. Ontrack sold all of their utility software off in 2002 to V-Communications. www.v-com.com
  16. Seems that a lot of the internet shops are selling out their nForce2 boards including this one. I'm planning to stay with single core 32 bit (socket A) CPUs for a while yet. The geek attraction of 64 bit dual-core just isn't there for me (yet). As long as I can continue to buy Barton core (512 Mb cache) Athlon XP 3200+ CPUs for about $100 I'll be happy. Anyway, I am able to get a NIB v2.0 board (with the updated North/South bridge chips) for less than $50 shipped. Good buy or should I be looking at a Chaintech or Abit?
  17. well, if you have *some* money, go buy an identical drive to the one you think is toast. And I mean IDENTICAL in every way. Then swap the fried circuit board on the old drive with the new, working board from the new drive. Hopefully, that will 'fix' the drive long enough to get your data off. Now put the circuit card back onto the new drive. Get that drive working in the new machine. Toss the old drive and circuit board.
  18. Surely someone who runs a web site called 'Nicks Computer Service' should be able to read the documentation and forum posts and get nlite working for them.........
  19. Using nlite, is it possible to strip out ALL of the 'factory default' drivers from an XP (SP2) i386 and then go back in and re-load all of the BtS drivers before making an ISO? Ok, if it's possible, would the resulting ISO be 'good'. Would stripping out the original drivers cause some features/options of XP to be inoperative even though drivers are added back in later? What about the text mode drivers? Do the BtS Mass Storage drivers get picked up as text mode drivers or do I need to be careful to leave the factory default text mode drivers behind? thanks
  20. What kind of disk controller? Many older controllers (and motherboards) will not 'see' more than 128 gig of a hard drive.
  21. It halts with an open DOS box with the error mesage: "The syntax of the command is incorrect." This occurs whether or not the checker is numbered 5081 or 50811.
  22. www.abit-usa.com Find the mobo you want then look at newegg.com or techbargains.com for prices. froogle.com is a good place to start shopping too.
  23. It looks like a Partition Magic utility, DriveMapper, will do what I need. Unforturnately, PM s now owned by Symantec and costs about $60-. Off to Sourceforge now......
  24. We're talking about changing the letter of the system/boot drive. Does anyone know of a tool that will dig into an XP installation and change all of the drive letter references (in the registry, .ini files, and shortcuts) to some arbitrary letter? Say I have an XP installation with a lot of apps that is D: on the computer. I'd like to be able to point this tool at D: and tell it to change *everything* over so that the drive boots and runs (successfully) as C: without re-installing any apps. Can Ghost or Partition Magic do this? thanks
  25. Look at the stuff on stardock.com to see what's possible. A google search will bring up all kinds of alternatives to the $50- cost of Stardock Object Desktop.
