  1. Jeez you guys. If you open computer manager and go to services and then click on a service, the properties of the service will tell you both what the service depends on and what other services depend on it. Property pages have been around for how many years now? Additionally, the event viewer will give you some good ideas on what happened during startup which in turn will point you towards possible fixes.
  2. Today, it's Intel Dual Core. When AMD starts producing dual and quad core in 65nm process, then the swing goes back to AMD. No matter what you do, you have to match up the CPU with the fastest memory sticks you can find. Otherwise there is no sense in spending any $$ on a fast CPU.
  3. msconfig ex_ and ch_ are on the ISO... Ok, here is what I *think* is happening... The canonical location for msconfig.exe is "C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries". There are a few third party apps that look for msconfig.exe in the MSFT-defined location and do not walk down $PATH. I've got stuff here from HP (an OpenView agent), IBM (a Tivoli/TSM backup agent), and Nortel that behave that way. Am I correct in assuming that you put msconfig.exe into system32 for the sake of having it in $PATH?? If so, that was a good assumption except for breaking the previously defined location up in windows\pchealth\helpctr\binaries. There are at least two ways to fix this, both of which involve creating hard NTFS junctions. If I had my pref, I'd rather see msconfig.exe left in the canonical location with a hard junction pointing there from system32 to take care of finding it via $PATH. Unless of course I'm way off base here............
  4. msconfig.exe (and the matching chm help flie) is nowhere to be found on an nlited source when I select "Help and Support Center" for deletion. If I keep H&SC, msconfig.exe is in the /windows/pchealth directory tree. The .CHM lives in the help subdirectory. On an completely 'virgin' MSFT only reference / test system (WinXP, SP2, up-to-date patch levels, no RVM or nlite), msconfig.exe 'lives' in "C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries" Point being, if I have msconfig.exe in [KeepFiles] it shoudl still be there after nlite finishes no matter where it may be.
  5. nlite 1.3RC2, msconfig.exe is explicitly listed in the [KeepFiles] section of last_session.ini If I have nlite delete the component "Help and Support Center", msconfig.exe is gone along with the entire /windows/pchealth directory structure. If I have nilte leave that component alone, well, msconfig.exe is still there and available. ??? and thanks! Last_Session.ini
  6. The errors seem quite self-explanitory to me. You have a pile of hotfixes that are not for the version of windows that you are trying to install them to.
  7. Any changes to the formats of last_session.ini that we need to worry about???
  8. It probably won't be possible as an after the fact tweak but maybe as a pre-install mod to the default hives......

    Tweak Request

How about: Control Panel | Network Connections | Local Area Connection | Properties | Show icon in notification area when connected = yes
  10. What he said. And learn how to load up a new ISO and test in VirtualPC or VMWare Workstation. When I make a new XP disk I probably test 6-10 times over a weekend before I'm happy with the load.
  11. Well, there is no way that anyone will be giving you an ISO or license keys, but I'm sure than more than a few peeps will share their last_sesion.ini file with you.
  12. look at the update/addon packs at www.ryanvm.net
  13. Ok, it looks as though either I or nlite is neglecting to actually turn on multiple TS sessions needed for fast user switching. Can someome have a look at my last session.ini to see if I've FUBAR'd the install or is this an nlite feature/bug?? thanks! KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon Value NameAllowMultipleTSSessions Value TypeREG_DWORD Value Data0x00000001 Last_Session.ini
  14. Ok, all I'm getting is the stock administrator and other default users. It appears that the rest of unattended is working except for user creation. ??? and thanks!
  15. Is there any way to set this other than manually hitting the process from task manager?/ thanks
  16. you can contact dell and order the correct install media instead of the 'recovery cd' they ship.
  17. www.jrmediacenter.com, thay support just about any media player on the planet.....
  18. If you load Office/Access doesn't that either reload or update the Jet engine anyway?? So if it's removed from an OS source no big deal, right?? If so, just go ahead and delete Jet and ODBC with nlite but keep the one .dll (ODBCCP32.DLL) needed to support both OOo and MM.
  19. There are loads of quality, quiet fans with mounting hardware for disk bays.......
  20. No IE7 integration for me, I'm letting the rest of you beta test that thing for about 4 months before I touch it. It's not just a missing showdesktop.scf, it's that Quick Launch is turned off by default and had to be manually turned on now.
  21. \aolMode on Me Too! \\aolMode off Yup, I've spent the good part of the day trying to find the nlite tweak that turns the QuickLaunch bar on and off as well as the Show Desktop icon.......
  22. Nuhi, are 1 & 3 solved in the current 1.3 beta or in a soon-to-come update??
