    Invalid CD Key?

Which bring up another question... Are there any non-MSFT tools out there that can validate a CD-Key?
  3. WHS has been pulled back for GUI and usability improvements.
  4. Another possibility is that if you built a custom install ISO and force-set the PC type to uni-processor, you'll have a HAL that is able to speak to only one core. A challenge to swap out, not impossible, but not for the faint of heart either. Small possibility, but there you are.
  5. well with the recent upgrade-releases of gnucash the last reason I had for running a MSFT OS for anything other than games went bye-bye. All that's left to do is to do some serious stress tests on gnucash (like red-switch the VM and then the hosting hardware to check how data files are recovered). After that, time to convert my VM Linux systems to 'real' disk and then convert my MSFT images to VMs that run under Linux. Maybe keep a dual-boot machine around for those times when I really need native hardware speeds. But even that won't be forever. VMWare is 'promising' DX9+ support in an upcoming release.
  6. set all users/default user sound scheme to 'no sounds'
  7. Did the collective 'google-sense' of this group suddenly take a nosedive?? There are a bazillion "Registry Tweakers" out there including one called..... wait for it..... "Registry Tweaker" www.registrytweaker.net This is only one example (not the best, not the worst, just an example) among the many MANY out there. Writing your own is a nice programming project if you want to build your own GUI and work with registry manipulation calls, but the topic has been programmed to death.
  8. have it your way.......
  9. you guys have got to remember that nlite isn't a system tweaker and that more than once, Nuhi has offered to remove all tweaking from nlite to concentrate on system slim downs.
  10. or your disk controller, bad drivers, cheap memory without error correction (or worse) 'error correction' that is actually error ignoring. There are also some recently fixed XP/Vista bugs that were in the disk drivers and NTFS fliesystem. Why do you ask? You question could easily be reworded as "if I do typical/normal tasks with my system will that corrupt data?" Answer: Not unless there is something seriously wrong with the system.
  11. or even www.openoffice.org as you've already mentioned.
  12. I need a command line that will run ALL of the PC Wizard hardware, device driver, and OS survey commands and generate a TXT file for me in one go. Anyone have such an animal?? Or, if I'm asking PC-Wizard to do things it can't do, please suggest an alternative. thanks!
  13. If you were to take the time read and participate on Ryans forum instead of just leaching files you'd know that a) Ryan is on a break due to work and B) 1 or 2 others have taken on the task of building/maintaining addons to Ryans patch packs.
  14. That's an answer too. So if someone wants to integrate all WMP11 fixes they need to be downloaded and run in with your slipstreamer. thanks
  15. Is it possible to look inside the MSFT WPM11 installer to see what hotfixes are included?
  16. has MSFT ever distro'd new drivers in a service pack??

    xp install

Ok, how about turning OFF SFC during installation and then back on after first boot?
  18. .78 is still on the download site.....
  19. yer gonna need to browse through the available visual and menu tweaks in nlite.......
  20. repeatable behavor Whenever I delete or 'skip oobe', my install will hang at T9. ini attached...... Last_Session.ini
  21. or, alternatively, does anyone know the sequence of events that occur at T-9 and on down to the last reboot?
  22. Unfortunately, the search engine doesn't allow searching for anything less than three character expressions.... So, I'm getting occational XP install 'hangs' at the T9 applying settings section. Does anyone know of a few common reasons why this could happen? The XP SP2 source was clean, RVMIntegrator used to load a bunch of addons. nlite used to trim a load of options out. BtS Driverpacks loaded at the end. iso made with the RVMIntegrator or nero or cdburnerxppro. Doesn't seem to matter which tool I use to actually creat an iso from the modified source dirs. The T9 hang is pretty random. Using the same tools and settings, sometimes I'll get an iso that hangs at T9, sometimes the resulting isos work just fine. This might have something to do with the automatic root cert update that happens at T9. Does anyone know of any way to supress the rootupd.exe call at T9 so I can test? ??? and thanks in advance for the help
  23. How about running your Win9x stuff under VMWare Server??
  24. Why not use something like Pic2Exe (http://www.wnsoft.com/) and turn your presentations into standalone EXEs that run on just about any Windows system Win98 or newer?
  25. You guys should also be looking at 'U3' enabled apps. These are apps that are designed to be installed and run from USB sticks. There is no reason why these apps can't also be run from your hard drive. one place is: http://portableapps.com/ the main U3 site, is, of course: http://software.u3.com/softwarecentral.aspx?skip=1
