  1. Please export the following keys with regedit: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\StartIsBack HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StartPage3 and attach here
  2. I guess something wrong in the registry. Do you have any error before you press Activate button? Try uninstalling StartIsBack+ with checkbox 'Remove settings and license data'.
  3. If you right-click a program and choose "Remove from this list" it should not reappear again. If you noticed that some program does, please tell me which program that is.
  4. It's nice concept but it's not StartIsBack. The point of Start menu is to be a central place of the system to get to place you want as quickly / easily as possible. Your concept does not solve any problems start menu has. Try to concept having those problems / ideas in mind: - Start menu should show as many things as possible without feeling too cramped or overblown - Start menu should have all items accessible in 1 click - All apps should show only useful items (programs), which are categorized somehow - Start menu should show all items user can be interested in: programs, files, websites - Start menu should show thumbnails for documents - Modern apps should be in Start menu, but be distinguished In other news, Windows 8.1 Build 9471 has leaked and SIB+ works there, although there's some minor issues.
  5. +1.0 Release Candidate Zero http://startisback.com/StartIsBackPlus_setupRC.exe It kind of boring waiting for 8.1 RTM. This release brings more polish. Feels weird being 1.0 again. Hidden setting: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\StartIsBack "AlignMenuTop" = DWORD 1 to make start menu not cover the taskbar when on the side
  6. I find that hard to believe. Sorry, what?
  7. That's how OK/Cancel/Apply buttons work for setting dialogs since 1995.
  8. Tell me if my ideas for Windows 8.1 File Explorer improvements are bad: http://www.polljunkie.com/poll/fgbkmo/file-explorer-startisback http://tihiy.net/files/howthismaylook.png
  9. I'll add a hidden option. Even though I don't like this idea. That's a glitch of 8.1 being forced into 'touch mode'. Let's hope such bugs will be fixed in RTM.
  10. +BETA 4 http://startisback.com/StartIsBackPlus_setupBETA.exe This is the last beta planned. I want to hear your opinion about right side items which are shown by default. Which ones are the most useful? How about adding Run by default? Network? Downloads? SkyDrive? Hiding some items like Help and Support?
  11. It's 300ms actually. I can't distiguish tablet keyboard from other keyboards reliably (i don't want to hardcode "GPIO buttons" although it could work). I guess i'll make a separate setting for everything-at-once for tablet. It would be nice to offer e-a-o for touchpads, but they're all too different unfortunately.
  12. Actually, I've considered this for SIB 2.0, but it didn't work out. Jump lists are bit too limited for this task. It maaay work out for some advanced users, but generally it does not work well.
  13. +BETA 3 http://startisback.com/StartIsBackPlus_setupBETA.exe
  14. Yes. Unfortunately it is not working. I hold the Windows key for a while and when I release it nothing happens or it switches back to Start screen. The tablet dock keyboard Windows key is working. That sucks. Seems that tablet windows key does not distinguish pressed state at all.
  15. Yes, it is the plan. Some minor bugfixes and new translations are pending.
  16. Did you try 'Everything at once' function with tablet Windows key? You don't have to buy new license, just e-mail me.
  17. +BETA 2 is here http://startisback.com/StartIsBackPlus_setupBETA.exe - New: clicking bottom-left corner with mouse wheel button shows Start menu- Fixed configurator not remembering recent programs count- Fixed configurator crash once- Fixed Run / Help items not localized- Fixed taskbar on Start screen / Everything at once not working if login is to Start screen
  18. Fixed the crash with some black magic, you don't have to update anything yet.
  19. 351837, santij07 please help me to reproduce this. Specify your Windows install type (upgrade / clean), x86/x64, how did you install StartIsBack, how did you launch configurator and what you did to get the error box.
  20. >IT'S HAPPENING http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/163489-startisback-beta-1/
  21. DOWNLOAD: http://www.startisback.com/StartIsBackPlus_setup.exe handle with care!
  22. Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome StartIsBack+! StartIsBack+ is the all-new version of StartIsBack for Windows 8.1. It's a FREE upgrade for all StartIsBack users. What's cool in StartIsBack+? New unique features: - "Everything at once". Hold down Windows key for half a second until search icon appears in the center of the screen; release it and have instant access to all your running apps, taskbar and charms or search bar at the same time from any app you use. Its a great multitasking helper which should be very useful for both tablet and classic PCs. You don't have to learn all keyboard shortcuts, run your mouse to the screen corners or perform awkward swipes. Just hold down Windows key on keyboard or double-tap Win logo on the tablet! (off by default) - Taskbar on Start screen. You can set StartIsBack to always display taskbar on Start screen and greatly reduce Start screen stress! Although this function appeared in SIB 2.1, it really shines in Windows 8.1 when you set your wallpaper for Start screen. General: - Start menu has been rebuilt from ground up. It no longer uses code present in explorer; but! No features were lost and actually has been improved with new features and many fixes for bugs present in original menu code. StartIsBack+ uses LESS resources than native menu! - Start menu utilizes start menu "soul" left in Windows; it's fully compatible with Windows 7 / StartIsBack settings and policies - StartIsBack+ does not require a process or service to run, comes with support / translation for all Windows languages (where MUI is available) - StartIsBack+ is better suited for tablets and convertibles. Start menu: - Start menu has been rebuilt from ground up. Lot of Windows 7 menu bugs were fixed - Items in right pane can be removed or tweaked in-place (hold shift with right-click) - Items in right pane can be configured as menu for more items (like Connect To) - You can add your own folders into right pane by drag & drop - All Programs can show folders before items - Start menu configuration is much more streamlined Start Apps (Modern apps) folder in All Programs: - Higher-quality icons are used - You can create a shortcut for Modern app from Start Apps folder directly via drag & drop - You can uninstall Modern apps directly from context menu Start button: - StartIsBack+ provides start button for each taskbar - StartIsBack+ uses built-in Windows 8.1 start button image (by default), but with different selection / animation effect to distinguish it Skinning: - Same skins included; Plain8 is the default - Start menu is a full sheet of glass; without hacks - Glass layer can be turned off totally; without hacks - StartIsBack+ allows using msstyles from Windows 8 unaltered (you still need UxStyle or whatever) Other changes: - All screen edges but bottom-left are enabled by default - Settings for bottom-left corner were removed - F3 on desktop no longer launches desktop search - StartIsBack+ settings for start menu are now stored in ..\StartIsBack registry key, not in ...\Explorer\Advanced. Existing settings are migrated. StartIsBack+ is for Windows 8.1 only. If you want to upgrade your Windows 8 with StartIsBack installed to Windows 8.1, make sure you have StartIsBack version 2.0 or above!
