That's your call, no versions of SIB/SIB+ were broken by updates, that applies for GA too.

You can check the SIB+ option 'Enable on corners on secondary screens'. That will make secondary monitors have standard Start button and open start menu on primary monitor only.

That means you have enabled 'All screen corners are active on secondary monitors'.

You can rename it from shell or in-place, however it stays 'This PC' in configurator. If that annoys you perhaps I could display new name in configurator too. That's a rich idea which is floating in the air, however Start screen on side is will have big usability issues due to its huge margins and inability to scroll horizontally.

humanangle, if is it possible, find this crash in windows error reporting and upload files which contain crash dump. Grope For Luna, you must be running some cleaner which aggressively deletes temporary directory or temporary directory is improperly configured. Make sure C:\Temp exists, has proper access rights and isn't corrupted somehow.

Yes, that should fix it.

The crash is caused by some bug in Games folder Parental control Ratings system (sic!). Wpc!CRatingSystemCache::GetRatingSystem+0x97Wpc!CSystemSettings::GetDefaultRatingsSystemForLocale+0x408Wpc!CSystemSettings::GetCurrentRatingsSystem+0x120Wpc!CSystemSettings::GetCurrentRatingsSystemID+0x36Wpc!CGamesSettings::Initialize+0x84Wpc!CWindowsParentalControls::GetGamesSettings+0x85gameux!CGameExplorer::GetGamesSettingsForUser+0x5agameux!CGameExplorer::GetGamesSettingsForCurrentUser+0x59gameux!CGameExplorer::SetupWPC+0xa7gameux!CGameExplorer::GetGameInternal+0xe8gameux!CGameExplorer::GetGame+0x8bgameux!CGameFolder::GetGame+0x3fgameux!CGameFolder::GetPropertyStore+0x34gameux!CGameFolder::BindToObject+0x7cshell32!CShellItem::BindToHandler+0x4ddshell32!CShellItem::_GetPropertyStoreWorker+0x36bshell32!CShellItem::GetPropertyStoreForKeys+0x116SearchFolder!CGrepQuery::_EvaluateItem+0x1086SearchFolder!CRowsetEnumeration::_EnumerateRowset+0x2f1SearchFolder!CRowsetEnumeration::WaitForResults+0x3fSearchFolder!CQueryResultSet::_HandleBatches+0xbdSearchFolder!CQueryResultSet::RealizeResults+0x19fIt's manifested because StartIsBack adds Games folder into search results. Unfortunately I'm not sure why your Games folder causes crash, nor there is a setting to remove games from search results. You may delete your games shortcuts from Games folder one by one to find which one is faulty. Or you can add explorer.exe into DEP exclusion list.

Add them with regedit, as dword values, each one meaning normalized pixel width of the start menu part.

StartIsBack does shutdown like Alt-F4 on desktop / charms power button does. Win-X does it different way it seems. If there's no crashes in Event Viewer Application log, then i'm sure it's not related. Go to Win8 slow shutdown thread. +1.0 has been silently re-released to fix minor "drop on start button does not always work" bug.

1. Right-click Start menu - Properties - Switching - When I hold Windows key 2. That's true, it seems it may not work. I guess 1.0 will be refreshed, because bug is minor.

It seems nobody does. Please verify it's SIB+ issue: uninstall it and start 8.1 again, wait a bit longer - coz i think it's your startup apps.

That's not supposed to happen. I suspect antivirus may influence this. Try using process monitor with path filter for other disk and process name for explorer.exe, then open start menu and check the log.

Not necessarily, but you must install StartIsBack 2.0 or above if you're using earlier version. Right click Start button - Properties - About - Activate.

Maybe security persmissions on SIB installation folder are wrong. Uninstall it and remove folder by yourself, then reinstall it.
