  1. Yes, I've used C(rap)Cleaner man and boy. I see that the new 'un is a beta but I'm just downloading it now.
  2. How are spammers able to hack into my emails? I use MailWasher to preview and bounce my emails before using Outlook Express. MailWasher is a fine programme but inevitably there are some emails it cannot bounce because there is no return address on the cover and such emails have obviously been hacked in. And therein lies the problem. I see from the source of hacked emails that there are handling addresses there. So how would I go about bouncing the emails back to the handlers? Here is a typical hacked email I received recently NOTE:- me@mine.net is my email address (not my real one of course!)Comments and advice welcome! I've asked Yahoo to trace back these hacks in the past but they're just not interested enough.
  3. Even after reading all the references I am still having a problem getting my head 'round this. Could someone please come up with a real example?
  4. Yes, I fear you may well be right. I am frequently getting error messages citing 'explorer'. (I assume we are discussing explorer.exe not iexplore.exe.)
  5. Guys - Thanks for all your comments but note # I have 256MB RAM # I don't use a netork card # The swap file is on D: drive (i.e. second hard disk) because I was advised so to do elsewhere on these forums # Defrag is the WinME version courtesy of MDGx # I do not use partitioning # My hard drives are C: 10MB D: 20MB. I hate these latest monster disks, I don't need them. But to get back to the point, which was inviting informed comment on the shape of my SYSTEM.INI file!
  6. I've been trying to install an interactive wiki (like wikipaedia) on my virtual server Easyspace. However, I cannot proceed because the server's MySQL and PHP are not new enough. I spoke to Easyspace but they couldn't help. I've got recent versions of these programmes on my machine so would it somehow be possible to upload these to the server so that they work? I tried putting them in the cgi-bin but that didn't do the trick. PS - In the last couple of days I've noticed that all PHP files (regardless of source) are displaying in a large font (about 27 point I would say) which looks like Extra Bold Arial to me. Anyone know what's triggered this?
  7. Yes, I agree. AVG is about the best. (I tried Panda once - never again, it wiped out half a dozen programmes and I'm not convinced that there were any viruses there.)
  8. The CleanSweep I'm running at present is supposedly v.4.70.0058 and the cs32.exe is dated 19 July 1999. As I recall this was installed out of Norton SystemWorks ?2002 (now long time gone) which I bought off eBay. It has its hiccups but even so I find it very useful as an uninstaller - I mean the right-click option.
  9. Thanks for your inputs, guys, but like I said before .... done this, tried that..... no viruses ... no bad sectors ... no nothing ..... It might have been something to do with the fact that even though the HD was half empty / half full and mostly empty space there were a few persistent semi-used clusters right at the *end* of the disk .... I'm not totally convinced that SYSTEM.INI is completely irrelevant, either, marxo .... I was hoping that one of you guys would have cast an expert eye over the sysini .....
  10. ... looked up all those references, guys, but they didn't really gel with me. It was this online form which asked me not for my URL but for my URI ... Stupid form, anyway - didn't work!!!!
  11. Believe me, it goes without saying that I have tried all the usuals and there are no viruses, trojans, or the like either. Even in safe mode (where there are fewer background programmes running) the same characteristics are there, albeit safe mode if a little faster.
  12. Mozilla Firefox v2.0.0.6 I wasn't too impressed last time 'round; very slow in loading and quite unstable. But what the heck I'll have another go with this newer version! postscriptum - No, I didn't. The Firefox site kept trying to push v.2.0.0.5 on me.
  13. Defrag is restarting far too often and it is often rewinding itself a lot e.g. jumping back from 90% to say 70%. All this is tiresome. I'm attaching my SYSTEM.INI - could someone comment on the settings and ideally provide some model settings? Thanks.
  14. How do I find my URI?
  15. - Karen's Directory Printer I already have. Would AP detect this and not reinstall it in a different place on my hard disk? Just wondering. And again out of curiousity when I re-install or update AP do progs which were previously installed by AP but are not in the updated versions of AP actually get removed from the HD?
  16. About powermenu, my 'chine isn't up to so much multitasking so pm just gets in the way in systray and uses up resources needlessly. Besides, I seem to recall reading something while back about it being a bit dodgy, couldn't get hold of maker's webpage either. As for the zipper, I bought NetZip couple of years back and I use that plus the zipper that came with MDGx's 98SE2ME. I load NetZIP when I need to add or subtract things from a ZIP file because its big feature is that when loaded it allows a zip file to be used just like a common-and-garden folder. (I also have WinRAR there in reserve for stuff the other zippers can't handle) postscriptum - 'the July 2007 release will be available within 48 hours!' Can't wait, but hadn't that better become August 2007 by now, we're on the verge! (PPS - will that be a 'full' or a patch and if it's a full can it be installed on top of the June full?)
  17. Hiya, Tbird885 - The AP forum is here at http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=80800 . Why d'you needlessly open a separate string?Because there is like 34 pages on that thread, I figured my ? would not get noticed. Who reads thru a 34 page thread.Good point!

  19. @ soporific - Just downloaded and installed AutoPatcher June 2007 sp2 FULL. You may recall from a few months back I was having multiple troubles with AP. This time I was pleasantly surprised to find that it all seemed to go well, no error messages or complications. (But there's some stuff included in there that I didn't need e.g. Zip-7, powermenu)
  20. @submix8c - Thanks for that PS - FlashGet now up to v.1.9.2.1028 but it's still exhibiting the problems previously described.
  21. @ Acheron et al Re Windows98 3rd Edition Could you please recap on this whole topiC? It's become very convoluted and difficult to follow! And I gather ... (1) this is a Dutch project - could it be translated into British English? (2) are we talking about Win98SE? (3) ISO is mentioned somewhere, is this mandatory?
  22. @ MDGx, RenoitRen - Thank guys, useful info!
  23. What are the relative ups and downs for ASP, PHP, and HTML? I've always used HTML for my web pages but I wonder if using ASP or PHP would present any advantages?
