This might seem hilarious, but adfly was JUST unblocked in my country! Just an hour ago! But still, keep the alt. Link on there in case some other countries have it blocked.
-
That stinks. What about Virtual PC 2007? There is a modified .msi available for Windows 2000 on the BetaArchive. That could work. Also try disabling hardware virtualization. Also, I can no longer enter the archive. Adfly is blocked in my country.

Don't worry, pretty soon a new driver will come up. It's just a matter of time.

Which VM app were you running? VPC, VMware? And what about dualbooting the OSes? Use Win2k for your main stuff, XP for the ActiveX controls. It happened when I was booting up the VM. Had to reinstall Windows. It's no problem, though. Also, here are vids of me using Windows 2000 from a few months ago.. Check the comments. Yep. a lot of mixed opinions on me using Windows 2000.
-
Well, I'm pretty much all set for Win2k install, just need a PS/2 keyboard to get past the setup until I can reinstall the USB drivers (still don't know why that happens).

Hello! Today I've prepared a list of utilities that will help to throttle your Intel CPU in Windows 2000. Click on each option to download it. 1. RightMark CPU Clock Utility. 2. TechPowerUp Real Temp. These apps help to slow down the CPU to cool it and save energy.
-
Lesson learned: Don]'t use Intel or AMD graphics. Just go nVidia with either an Intel or an AMD CPU. BTW, my mobo has an auto VCore throttler, so it can run on non-SpeedStep aware OSes too (e.g. Windows 2000).

For me, Windows XP was a literal nightmare. Whether it would boot to the desktop would be the question! Windows Vista SP2, however is well behaved. But my ventures with Windows 2000 aren't over...yet. Also, you could run Windows XP in a VM for the sake of IE 8, and for me ClearType has never been an issue. I find Windows 2000 more stable than any other OS, because even with UUR it does not crash. BUG FOUND: In the latest daily version of UUR 11: June 2013, I'm greeted by this terrifying sight: It seems that the kernel32.dll file is problematic. In the April 2013 version, everything runs great. Super stable.
-
Oh, OK. These drivers can work without UUR too?
-
You'll find that you'll have much better luck with an nVidia Graphics Processing unit. Sorry to say.
-
I'm a Vista guy. As long as you have SP1/SP2 installed, it should be no problem.Windows Vista boots faster than XP or 7 on this PC, it's very peppy, and it looks beautiful. I prefer Vista over Windows 7 and especially Windows XP. My system is an Ivy-Bridge Pentium G2010 with 4GBs of DDR3, and a 500GB HDD. With avast! antivirus and Comodo Firewall by your side, it's extremely secure, too.
-
tomasz86, since when have you started using XP? I've started using Vista because of the issues that Win2k previously gave me. Anyway I'm not too sure if I should venture out into UUR anymore, because reliability and stability come along with my want of Windows 2000. And if Win2k isn't reliable or stable, there's no point. Well, I can say that for me the rollups have been stable and reliable, my Win2k machine NEVER crashed, in fact it seems to run more STABLE with the Rollups! BUT sometimes app compatibility can be an issue. It's rare, and too little to complain about. The issue I was having back then was because of my integrated HD 2500 Graphics. I'm now on nVidia, so theoretically, Windows 2000 should run awesome.

Since I have an nVidia GPU in my build now, I think I should get more lucky on Windows 2000 with PAE. If i was to install the UUR 11 daily or weekly, would the drivers work out of the box?

Firefox Setup 16.0.2--Win2K--Rollup issues
AnX replied to NorthAzimuth's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
I think it's time I regain interest in Windows 2000. It's been long, I'm on Vista now since it's very fast on this PC. But since your Rollups seem to be getting better, and the fact that I now have an nVidia GPU in my build, I'm reconsidering Windows 2000. But first, to get an old PS/2 KB to perform the install. Although this time, I hope that the weekly or daily is stable enough for use. -
Microsoft Windows 98 to recognize Dual-Core processors (project?)
AnX replied to ohmss006's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Is it possible to extend this API to get Windows 98 to have full multicore support, and the ability to run apps on both the cores? -
I suppose it would work.

You could invest in a new motherboard for NT4 as long as it has PS/2 ports, a BIOS that is compatible with the OS, and has atleast 1 PCI (classic) slot. The nVidia GeForce 6600 PCI-E GPU will work on NT4 using Forceware version 77.72. As for the sound, you will need an older ac'97 style sound card, as HD audio does not work on NT4. Your motherboard should also have a Realtek Ethernet port, since you could find NT4.0 drivers for it. Here are optimal Specs (This is Intel, I am not too experienced with AMD) -Intel Pentium Dual Core (Sandy or Ivy Bridge) -3 to 4 GB of DDR3 RAM -Any size of HDD (Make sure the controller is set to IDE and not ACI in the BIOS) -An ASUS/Gigabyte MoBo with the above mentioned requirements. You should be able to get NT 4.0 on there nicely. You should also be able to build an AMD system, as long as you follow similar requirements.

Windows 2000 won't install on my notebook (acer)
AnX replied to junior600's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
If it has an InsydeH20 BIOS, that's your problem. Don't expect Windows 2000 on netbooks or laptops with that horrid BIOS, unless in a VM. -
Microsoft Windows 98 to recognize Dual-Core processors (project?)
AnX replied to ohmss006's topic in Windows 9x/ME
Another possible thing is the HP's InsydeH20 BIOS This commie BIOS restricts Windows 2000's access to the second core. If you want a Win2k system, avoid HP laptops at all cost! Dell and ASUS laptops will work for you. -
Yeah, neither do I at this point. I'm also not a programmer so making full sense of the dump is beyond me. First, a few points about UURollup v11 1) Two versions of process explorer included. Nice. 2) Caused nvidia display driver service to temporarily hang at startup. 3) May have been premature on saying v11 fixed ssl cert issue. It just may be throwing an exception before it even gets to that point. Anyway, so today I decided to mess around a bit. First I uninstalled Office 2003 so I can get MS Update working again. [Note to self - either install Office as the last thing I ever do or just fore-go it for Ashampoo/SoftMaker Office 2010 or 2012. 2010 works fine on a stock win2k] MS Update offered me two patches for .NET and re-offered Rollup 1. Back to SQL. I uninstalled v11 which caused win2k to reboot before logon prompt appears. Went into safemode and installed Rollup 2. After restart I installed v10d and went back to sql. So now we're back to the beginning of not being able to create ssl certificate. Just for the fun of it I decided to add bits and pieces of v11 to v10d to see what happens. With each addition I'd try and reinstall sql server. The copying of bits was done via a Linux rescue system. The following dlls were added to the system (system32 & dllcache)... user32 - no go (meaning the same ssl cert issue) crypt32, cryptui, wintrust - no go rsaenh - no go userenv - no go Following added just for the fun of it... cryptsXP, credui, wintruXP, xpsp#res files - no go Given that those files from v11 didn't change anything I then reinstalled all of v11. SQL Server throws an exception. Hmm, maybe it's the included uxtheme.dll I thought. Nope. This could be kernel related or anything for that matter. BTW, an almost identical exception error was found at MS when I was searching last week with a supposed fix being cumulative update 15 for sql server 2005 sp3. Thing is I can't test that because sp3 itself won't finish installing and thus CU15 can't find any instance to update. I'm finished for this week. I'll resume testing next week on my next days off. Marc You should try a different version of SQL server to see if it works or not.

I've gotten AHCI on my PC now. I used the Matrix Storage Driver form blackwingcat. I had tried using a modern driver, but I am greeted with a BSOD. I'd like to know if someone can make a more modern AHCI driver for the Intel 6 Series/7 series chipsets. Because this driver supports maximum 6 series, and that too, without Write Cache. But the performance is better than IDE, so I'm keeping it that way. I'd just like to know if I could use a more modern driver. EDIT: I've tested ACPI features and they were all benefited from AHCI. Standby was quick and snappy, Hibernation actually WORKS now! And it hibernates and resumes at lightning speed, too! Now I want to test this on an SSD. EDIT 2: Hibernation doesn't work anymore, it looked like it was going to hibernate but returned back to the desktop for no reason. Oh well, I don't need it, and when upgrading to an SSD, you need to disable it.

Windows 2000 on a Acer Aspire One AO532h
AnX replied to Agorima's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
You could try, but the biggest problem is that it never loads the drivers in kernel mode. Meaning that getting the HT to work is pointless. -
To me, it's pure communism. I think it expects the kernel to load up the Speedstep driver, otherwise, you can't use more than one core. Very idiotic. On the other hand, a more modern UEFI BIOS of mine can help non-Speedstep aware OSes such as Win2k throttle CPU voltage (and I have proof) which helps substitute SpeedStep. On SpeedStep-aware OSes, that function is disabled and CPU throttling is OS-based. In my opinion, that is a MUCH better alternative than kicking out non-Speedstep aware OSes.

I'd still use an AV, since I have the habit of it, and updating backups is too much work for a secondary PC. I use Spybot Search& Destroy as an AntiSpyware for Windows 98, and with Firefox 10, I can have AdBlock Plus. I'm thinking an on-demand scanner is good, so I'll just get one of those.
