  1. Thanks for your help guys... Ive seen this router im thinking of buying, its only £20 inc delivery Benq What do I do about wiring, what sort do I need? Also, someone mentioned I could network with just a crossover cable, bad idea? Cheers.
  2. Its Blueyonder cable and they give one IP. So I guess the best way is to fit a router. How easy is it to setup once I get the broadband connection? Is this the only way to do it on the cheap? Cheers.
  3. Hi, Im about to get broadband installed. Im assuming it will connect up to my nic card at the back of my pc. What I would like to do is get another computer to share the internet connection as well. The other computer is an old Win98 system and doesnt have a nic card installed. Can I setup the second computer through the main one and control access to internet through my computer? I dont want the second computer having any sort of access to the main one apart from internet connection (second computer will be my younger sisters and I dont want her snooping through my files and may need to install some sort of over18 site blocking software as she is young). Im not sure how to set this up and what I would need. If its not really a good idea, should I get the installation guy to split the connection to the two computers so they are both independant? Thanks!!!
  4. oh and Doom3 WILL be multiplayer... see Reserve
  5. well im no pussy..... i just found this funny cat pic one day and decided to adopt it :/
  6. elephant eggs?! oh i see, the internal eggs.. wouldve made a seriously large omelette!
  7. I have compiled this list of webpages which provide help on what things to consider when buying a new laptop: C-Net Info HQ B-Central Laptops.co.uk Laptop Advisor PC World NetGuide
  8. im thinking of formatting my main drive and reinstalling windows xp pro because its become quite cluttered and unresponsive. when im reinstalling can i choose which components to install or not eg msn explorer, windows messenger etc because the last time i installed xp i dont remember an option. ideally i would like it to be installed from a latest xp cd ie with sp1, latest patches, msn6 etc or should i wait for sp2 to be released (when??) then do a complete wipeout then? thanx!
  9. i suppose 56k online gaming should live in the past... should be getting blueyonder cable soon, hopefully they can feed the wire all the way upstairs otherwise i'll have to get adsl
  10. i remember when pc gaming first went multiplayer, you could use your dialup modem to connect directly to another computers modem which would pick it up. also you could connect via the internet straight by using the ip address of the other player. is there any way of doing this in the modern games such as ut2003?
  11. dual ddr is comparable to having rambus memory on a p4 system. however you wont notice a great improvement unless you somehow manage to use up all the bandwidth of single ddr then move onto the extra bandwidth available. remember its an effective 800mhz because memory bandwidth is doubled to ideally equal the p4 fsb. its always an ideal situation when FSB runs at the same speed as memory. theres no benefit from ram running faster than the fsb. so if you bought a p4 3ghz 800mhz fsb and had two 512mb 400mhz sticks on a dual ddr mobo then your system isnt bottlenecked anywhere and should run at an optimum kickass speed whilst saving cash spending on rdram.
  12. ahh for dual support.. read this webpage it would make your ram run at the speed of a p4 fsb, either 533 or 800, lucky you when you put for example, two 512mb 400mhz ddr sticks they will automatically run at an effective 800mhz (as each stick uses the whole bandwidth) with a regular 1gb total
  13. if u bought 2 x 512mb (400mhz) that would be 1gb 400mhz. speed and size are independant of each other.
  14. hehe, sore subject for us united fans
  15. true, but they use 400mhz ddr which can is a multiple of 800mhz. but does that mean a 533mhz bus is more suited to 266mhz ddr (266 x 2 = 533)?? it may have to do with differences between athlon and p4 as athlon uses slower fsb. nonetheless, im confused!
  16. contrast ratio, response and other basic specs are good. it doesnt have much in way of additional features eg usb, built-in stereo speakers... you might want a dvi interface instead of analog, but you will need a dvi output on your graphics card (eg gf4 ti+, radeon 9000+) this helps ensure the picture is as perfect as possible as your graphic card wants it to be displayed on your screen. id still suggest the lg 17" tft over this one. how much is that in canada?
  17. hmm.. seems ok but nothing special. How much does that translate to in british pounds?
  18. Very cool sigs! ps. how do you change the text just above the stars?
  19. is the antivirus the same in norton antivirus 2003 pro and systemworks 2003 pro?
  20. thanks for ur help, but thats just not possible. seals are everywhere plus i dont think im confident enough to open a £500 tft monitor then the power supply inside to short it out. surely theres some software that can display extremely bright light from certain pixels continuously to distort/kill them, like leaving ur screen on one page for ages without a screensaver (thats not damaging enough though)

  22. I jus found out it has an internal power supply so I cant overload the power - the fuse will just blow and theyll just replace that instead. The screen has a strong plastic front layer so I cant press it in either (without it being made blatant sabotage). Methinks I is stuck with it!
  23. but doesnt an optical drive run at ata33? so putting a ata33 device with my ata100 hard drive would cause it to run at ata33 wouldnt it?? when i get the longer cables i plan to have this setup: primary master: main hard disk ata100 primary slave: dvd rom drive secondary master: second hard disk ata100 secondary slave: cdrw drive good or bad? cheers
