Why do people judge a program just because of "bloat"? That's not the main reason why RR is horrible. It's just the fact that the software that you're supposed to design software in is a pain in the butt. To give one example of how un-user-friendly it is, when you're laying down relationships between various classes, you have to click on the "relationship" button every freakin' time. You can't click from A to B, and then from B to C - oh no... that would be too hard to implement. You have to click on the "relationship" button, go from A to B, then click on the button again, then go from B to C.

To reproduce: Download a number of updates to a folder. Let's call it C:\Updates Downloaded updates should now be highlighted green in WUD Close WUD Rename the C:\Updates folder to "C:\WUD stuff" Open WUD. Previously downloaded updates should be white (unhighlighted) Change the download path to "C:\WUD stuff" Updates that were downloaded are still not highlighted Close and open WUD - updates are now highlighted It's basically just that the highlighting isn't being updated after you change the download path.

I used it in Windows 2000. I'm assuming that it would also install on XP without problems. UML stands for Unified Modeling Language. It provides a simple way of explaining the relationships within your software, and gives you a foundation upon which to write your code. For more information, the wikipedia page here has a really thorough explanation of UML.

Rational Rose is horrible horrible software. I was forced to use it in one of my classes, since my prof was one of the guys who wrote the stupid thing. UML diagrams can be made with several different types of software. Microsoft Visio can make UML diagrams quite easily, and there are plenty of other alternatives to Rational Rose. Visual Studio is a much easier alternative to work with than RR. Save yourself the headache and don't get it.

If you want to copy the actual files over, SyncBack or SyncBackSE is my recomendation. I use it to copy my "My Documents" folder over to my server every night. It'll only copy over whatever files have been modified/added/removed based on your preferences. It can also be scheduled using Windows' built in Task Scheduler.

I use the administrator account. Not being able to view the calendar without admin rights? Comon... you could have put the check when the user tries to change the time/date. But other than that, admin is the way to go for me.

@crahak - Exactly. The "Ultimate" edition will have features that home users will never use or need. Home Premium will have Media Center (IIRC), so if people want the fancy-stuffs, then that's probably all they'll need.

And people still forget how expensive XP was and still is. XP Pro retails for about $400 CAD (not the OEM version), but the prices that are listed above aren't that far off from what XP was when it was first released.

I think it's a problem with your theme. If you can get your hands on a theme editor (even a trial), you should be able to fix the problem. Usually there's a parameter that sets the maximum width of menus and such. Are you using WindowBlinds?

Gameplay. FF3 (japanese version) will still be one of the best Final Fantasy games out there, regardless of the fact that it was for NES. FFVII is also a classic... but it's for PlayStation (the original). Although for some games, the concept of realism comes into play. That's where Gran Turismo shines over Need For Speed.

I closed a similar poll in the XP forums for exactly the reasons stated here... maybe someone should do the same here...

Man... I used to watch that show, but then they ask questions that are so bloody targeted towards just American History, that unless you studied American History, you'd have no clue! And then they ask stupid questions for the million dollar prize. Maybe not stupid questions, but questions that you could figure out by a little bit of thinking... And the 50/50 is NOT random.

Having a system on for a long period of time doesn't do much harm as long as temperatures are reasonable. Turning a system on and off probably does more harm than leaving the system on throughout the day. Reason? Heat stresses. Every time you start and stop your computer, it heats up and cools down. Thermal expansion puts stress on the components. Tugboat drivers never turn off their engines, and some of the ones off the coast here in Vancouver have been running for over 20 years! I've got an old Athlon system at home that's been running for 6 years. Still starts up, still runs XP just fine. The reason why the old drive died (aside from the fact that it was a Maxtor), was because the case had no cooling for it - idle temperatures were about 50C! I'll keep a drive (and a computer for that matter) until it dies. The less wear and tear, the better.

Well... it shows up as a shortcut when I look at C:\Users\Zxian\, but I mounted the drive with Disk Management. It seems like Vista is making a "soft link", rather than a "hard link" (if you get what I mean).

Well... both partitions are NTFS - one was formatted with XP before, and the system drive was formatted with Vista. I don't think that the partition type would cause it... I can browse the location fine when I go to the path specified, but shortcuts to it don't work.

I'm trying to mount my "My Documents" partition into the "Documents" location in Vista, so that if it comes time to format or something, then all my files are safe on a separate partition. I went into Disk Management and pointed the partition at C:\Users\Zxian\Documents, but now the links in the "Favorite Links" don't work, and when I try to make a shortcut to it on my desktop, it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Windows Updates Downloader now comes with a new installer, complete with silent install switches for all you UA nuts! To install silently, you must use the /S switch (case sensitive!). You can customize the install using the following switches. /nodesktop <-- Removes Desktop Shortcuts from being installed /nostartmenu <-- Removes Start Menu Shortcuts Be warned though - when run silently, the installer does not check for the presence of the .NET Framework.
