Alcohol should be able to remove most of the goop left over. If not, gently try to loosen it with a finger nail (gently). Whatever's left over from that you can remove with alcohol.

Acetone is a pretty harsh chemical. Rubbing alcohol (70% or higher) should be fine for these kinds of cleaning jobs.

Hmm... now I'm torn. In the first one, the Rosetta@Home text is clearer, but the MSFN logo is clearer in the second one. I guess overall, the second one is better in my opinion. What do you think?

LOL! Best - Windows XP. Compared to everything else I've had to use, it works. Worst - Anything with no documentation.

Without the drivers, the XP installation won't recognize the array at all. Vista has far better driver support than XP did.

If you're really looking for a uITX system, then you won't need a PSU as big as those - a picoPSU like device should suit you fine.

Where'd you get that number? There are plenty of P35 based systems that came out at far less than $200 USD. Personally, I wouldn't go with either. I'd rather go with a decent Intel chipset over nVidia. If you get a P35 system with the ICH9R chipset (not the ICH9), then you should be good to go for a while. Mind you, X38 will provide some more futureproofing - PCIe 2.0 for example. I'm guessing that the current limitation in your system right now is simply a lack of RAM, given the list of applications you mentioned. And it's "probably..." Adding those extra two letters isn't too hard, is it?

It's a flop based on what AMD promised to deliver. If you had invested money into a company that promised to deliver 1000 of productX, and yet they only made it to 700, you'd be p***ed, no matter what the selling post, price/performance, etc etc. Hopefully we'll see AMD take a similar standpoint to what Intel did with their NetBurst architecture, and admit they had fallen behind. You shouldn't bite off more than you can chew - especially when it comes to the fate of your company.

Just like what jcarle was saying earlier, you can't simply compare clock speed. I'd definitely hope that my 1.8GHz E2160 outperforms a 1.8GHz P4 Northwood from 5 years ago. Barcelona is a flop - it's just that nobody wants to admit it. AMD was promising to beat current Xeons by about 40%, which I'm sorry to say - isn't happening. People are already saying "but wait until the clock speed of the Barcelona goes up." By the time that happens, Penryn will be on the shelves, and the whole argument will be moot.

I'd personally go with the Intel setup that Punto suggested. I'd make one amendment though - if you want to save a bit of money, skip out on the MX3200 keyboard/mouse. It's a nice setup, but you can find a keyboard and mouse for cheaper. I'd also chose Western Digital over Seagate, but that's completely personal preference. Everyone has their favorite brands and swears by different ones for different reasons.

Third vote for it. It's probably your best option, aside from using the various arrays for specific types of data.

The Antec over the other one - any day. Although I've gotta say, I do love my Antec 900 case. SImplicity is good. You usually want to stick with the KISS principle.

A 7600 series with 256MB of RAM would perform much better than a 7300 with 512. See if you can squeeze that into your budget. Personally, I'd still go with an Intel system over AMD. AMD is hitting roadblock after roadblock, and their "new and improved" barcelona systems are really a bunch of crap (compared to current Intel processors, and next-gen Intel). Do you have any sites that you'd be buying these parts from? That way we could help find you a parts list for this system.

Let us know how things go. By far the easiest tool to use to slipstream service packs and hotfixes is nLite. It's a pretty step-by-step program, and there isn't really too much where you can go wrong (as long as you're not removing any Windows components).

@nitroshift - He can't do that. He's only got the ICH6 chipset, not the ICH6R. As far as I know, you can't setup RAID0 for a Windows system drive without BIOS support.

Everything is air cooled. I've found that with the few fans I've got in my system, it runs quieter than with water cooling. I'm not crazy like some people here *cough*ripken*cough*, so the Ultra120 does the trick for me.

I was looking at the BOINCstats for our team and realized something incredible... We passed the 1,000,000 overall credit mark!!!This includes the previous SETI@Home team's score. For Rosetta@Home, we've got about 825,000 credit at the moment. We're slowly but surely working our way up in the ranks.
