Glad to hear that you got it sorted out. Maybe I'll image my computer and see if I can get 5.9 to install... I doubt it though. 5.7 and 5.8 didn't work...
-
Or the simple solution... remove the partition letter for the other partition in your sister's installation. That way there's no easy way for anything to be put on/accessed from your dad's side. If you want, you can reverse the process so that it goes both ways.

Nonono... I'm not bashing. I just question everything I read. Don't ever stop sharing the information you find. Just don't follow it without giving it a second look through to see if it actually makes sense... As for the CPU article, it was just the wording that irritated me... hehe.

Yes... You cannot update a shrunk source. You need to build from scratch and then reshrink from there. @evilvoice - The setup.exe that you mentioned, that's not the same as the Custom Installation Wizard, is it? I just used that to make my silent installs and all went well.

*Adds a program to install in Ubuntu* Thanks prathapml! Funny that this comes out the same day that Office 2003 Service Pack2 is released... (Please no flamewars or big discussions... I'm just pointing out the obvious)

Did you look at the link I posted? There's a screenshot of it in action here. As for #3... I said decent in 2002. The whole idea of software like Norton (or other security software) is that you don't uninstall it. You upgrade to the next version (at least that's what Symantec wants). I'll agree that when you do uninstall Norton, for the most part it doesn't do a good job of cleaning up after itself.

Glad to see you back! I'm looking forward to adding to the UaWiki if it's gonna be back up!

If you're running XP Pro, you can set such permissions in the Security Tab of the folder/file properties. Add each user that you want to customize permissions and then set them accordingly. I'm not too sure if this is available in XP Home.

If you don't want to use OfficeShrink, then you can also use 7-zip to compress the administrative install for each of the installers to help save space (it does help a lot...). That way you avoid problems with changing the configuration of your computer/install process.

You do not need either of these for general usage. I use UltraVNC and other internet based programs without any troubles. Välkommen till MSFN!

1) If you do some searching, you'll find more information on the MS-AS/Claria situation. We're talking about Gator software here. One of the most abundant spyware out there and MSAS recommends to "Ignore" it... 2) I've never used Yahoo Anti-Spy, so I can't say much about it. I did recomment SpywareBlaster which I believe others use as well and find effective. 3) Norton 2002 was decent. 2003 was heavier, but they also added some new features (the stupid-user settings as DarkShadows might call them). 2004 was the worst version there was, and yes, it was badly bloated. 2005 was a bit better, and I have yet to use 2006.

What are you trying to do exactly? Keep others from changing/deleting your files? You can set your "My Documents" folder to be private, thereby restricting other users from gaining access to these folders/files. You can change this setting under User Accounts in the Control Panel.
-
Thanks a million prathapml! I was looking for the Project version.
-
@prathapml - I can't see any notice of new features. I haven't noticed any new ones either from having installed it on my current installation either.

Why don't you integrate the post-SP2 hotfixes with nLite (even if you don't use it to strip down XP) instead of installing them from RunOnceEx? Your total CD size will be much smaller as well since files will no longer be duplicated.

If the list is too large, you can spend a bit of time categorizing your start menu. For example, create a new folder, and move all the programs relating to a particular category (e.g. Internet) in that folder. Do this for all your programs and your start menu will show up a lot quicker. To check your temperatures, download a program called SpeedFan. After it's running, you can see your temperatures in the main program window. Let us know what they are. As for the recommendations about disabling services - it's a good thing to do in the end, but I don't think it'll be a solution to your problem. Have you checked that you have all the latest drivers for your video card/chipset?
-
Well... if that works for you... Thanks for the quick configuration guide.

Unless someone else is already done compressing an Office2003-SP2 source... me.
-
Slipstreaming is the exact same as for SP1. Just change the file names appropriately and all goes well. Unattended install as well. Dunno about shrinking... I just compress. Tweaks, probably the same. Just guessing though.

Hehe....I have the answer!!! http://www.driverheaven.net/ Go and grab the Driverheaven Mobility Mobber V2.2 and use that to patch the installer for the ATI Catalyst drivers. You might need to find older Catalyst Drivers for your laptop. I've got the Catalyst 5.6 drivers on my laptop, since 5.7 and 5.8 don't work for me (no idea why). I haven't tried 5.9 yet either. Hope this helps!

Score! Thanks for the update! OneNote rules...

Microsoft AntiSpyware used to detect Claria software and select it for quarantine, but after Claria contacted Microsoft and requrested that MS re-evaluate the way that MSAS detects Claria software. It's Gator for crying out loud! I remember getting Gator on my first computer... it was a real pain in the butt to get rid of.If you want to read more... That's a good guide. I used to use NIS2003 and 2004, but I found 2004 slowed down my computer quite a bit... I'm wondering about you using NIS2000 (or was that a typo?). Don't you think that using outdated software poses a (minor) security risk as the software itself is no longer maintained? Also... some websites won't work properly if you deny browser information. I think (I think.... can't confirm right now) that Gmail is one of them. You might be able to get around this by adding mail.google.com to a trusted site, but you'll have to check that for me. In my opinion, you could replace the Yahoo Anti-Spy with SpywareBlaster. It's a preventative measure as well, but it gives you that protection without an added toolbar.
