  1. I think I have made my point of view and therefore my opinion crystal clear. That has nothing to do with criticism. And the problem with perception is truly a different one and cannot be solved by me.
  2. Palefill has been updated to the version 1.27 with interesting changes. The web interfaces of GMX and WEB.DE have not worked in New Moon 28 for a very long time. With Palefill 1.27, the interfaces of these email providers can finally be loaded normally again. No need to run anymore the interfaces with reduced functionality at the moment. A big thanks to martok! Very good job!
  3. Criticizing? Far from it. As far as I'm concerned, everyone can do whatever they want with their computer. Whether it makes sense or not. I couldn't care less! And if you read my first post properly, you would have noticed that I appreciate your project from a technical point of view. Here is my statement again: And having a different opinion and expressing it does never harm. Quite the opposite! It might make you think. At least that's how it works here in Germany and in many other European countries. And if someone has a problem with that, it doesn't bother me at all. For my part, I am neither interested in gaming nor in retro computing. I have been a genuine Windows XP user for over 20 years and am therefore not interested in retro, but in original. All my doing here on MSFN is to support real Windows XP users who need this operation system or want to use it for whatever reason. And by that I don't mean playing around with Windows XP today and Windows 98 in a VM tomorrow and so on. Yep, the beauty of XP is in the sum of its part and has fully developed in my computer over more than two decades. And it doesn't seem to want to stop. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  4. TBH, how many seconds more or less are needed for a cold or warm start of a computer is completely irrelevant to me and not an important criterion. Then I'll go have a smoke. The actual point I was making is different. Brevity is the spice: modern computer, modern operating system. It's as simple as that. IMHO, Windows XP belongs on older hardware, which is fully utilised by this operating system. Otherwise, a computer would not be used in all its capabilities.
  5. From a purely technical point of view, this is all quite interesting. And your presentation is perfectly successful and detailed. But I don't see Windows XP as an operating system on modern hardware. Nor in a virtual environment. Many people still have very old hardware that may be fully functional and should be used for various reasons. I, for example, have a very old computer from the year 2000 with a 32-bit processor Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHz and only 1.5 GB RAM. On such a computer, a maximum of Windows XP 32-bit SP3 or a 32-bit variant of Linux can be installed. Virtualisation on such a computer is of course doomed to failure. And to be honest, I'm glad that I'm allowed to use @roytam1s UXP browsers on this old computer and not this Chrome stuff that I use (or have to use) enough on Android, Windows 7 or Windows 10 anyway. I'm not a gamer, and I don't use Microsoft Office anymore. I therefore find my old, real Windows XP system a real respite and am completely satisfied. In my opinion, modern operating systems belong on modern computers, even if, like me, you don't necessarily like them. So why should I use Windows XP on them? For me, it doesn't really make sense, unless you want to go a bit retro. But then you don't want the Chrome stuff and other newer programs that you can always run on Windows 7 or 10. I don't think much of Windows 11. That's why I don't mention it. By the way, I should add that Windows XP 32-bit SP3 is still my main operating system, which is probably no longer the case with most people here in the forum. Greetings, AstroSkipper
  6. Thanks for your understanding! In Roman and German law, there is the following principle: Ignorantia legis non excusat. Therefore, interpreted in a figurative sense, mea culpa!
  7. No. I thought it is a place to post funny stories. As I already mentioned, I usually do not post in such a forum. That is why I do not deal with it in detail. But thanks for the hint! And TBH, all related to psychological content is not my subject at all, and certainly not here on MSFN.
  8. I think that there are indeed programs whose age plays a subordinate role. My firewall in Windows XP is now 7 years old, and I would not exchange it for any other program. Firewalls for Windows XP in particular don't necessarily have to be up to date as long as they can still control data traffic correctly in these days. That is one of the reasons why I also list such old firewalls as Look 'n' Stop Firewall here. And of course, the Comodo Firewall definitely belongs here, too. And sometimes, the following rule can be applied: old OS, old program. That's what it was made for.
  9. Joking in a subforum called Funny Farm? No problem! That's the actual goal of such a location. I agree with you that everything is changing in our world. Much faster than in the older times. But unfortunately, there are many changes I don't like. I am a bit old school or maybe more. One of my main goals here on MSFN is to make Windows XP fit for the next few years, to maintain it, to support it and keep it alive as long as possible. So much for Legacy Windows.
  10. CurrPorts With the analysis tool CurrPorts from NirSoft, you can display all occupied ports for TCP/IP and UDP on your computer. The tool lists each process with open ports and extensive information such as local and external addresses of a program connected to the internet or a network. If desired, the tool creates a clear TXT, HTML or XML document from this. Even after so many years and updates, CurrPorts is still compatible with Windows XP, like most programs from NirSoft portable and of course free of charge. All further information can be found on the CurrPorts homepage. Quotation from their homepage: Homepage: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html Version number: 2.77 Date of release: 13.12.2023 System requirements: Windows NT Windows 2000 Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Windows Server 2008 Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 8 Windows 10 Version history: The complete version history can be found here: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html Review: https://www.ghacks.net/2019/08/02/blast-from-the-past-nirsofts-currports/ Download links: 32-Bit version: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.zip 64-Bit version: https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports-x64.zip CurrPorts is also available in other languages which can be downloaded from their homepage. Screenshots: And here is a screenshot when opening MSFN website with New Moon 28: I love all the tools from NirSoft. CurrPorts is one of them. Knowing exactly which program uses which port and connects to where is very important and can play a crucial role in terms of system security. In my opinion, you simply have to have this program, especially just in case. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  11. I'm glad you don't always agree with me. Otherwise that would also be a little strange and not at all desirable. I prefer people with a genuine, but also well-founded opinion.
  12. Well, I don't know how that happened either. I used to be one of the youngest, and suddenly I'm one of the oldest. In any case, you have my deepest understanding for that fatal condition.
  13. Thank you for your kind words! TBH, I don't believe to be always objective. I am a human individual and primarily shaped by my own subjective experiences. And because of my advanced age, I inevitably made a lot of them. I try to maintain a certain objectivity, but as long as it is not scientific in nature, I am bound to fail. What do you exactly mean with some sort of diagnosis?
  14. What else did you expect starting such a thread in a non-technical subforum? Everything that is possible is posted here. This thread in this non-technical subforum has absolutely nothing to do with Legacy Windows. This is where especially all the social media and lollipop posters get attracted at their finest and nothing else. IMHO, this has nothing to do with the original idea of MSFN. Spoken for me only, I am in general technically interested when surfing MSFN. That's why you find me here very rarely. And that's why I became a member of the MSFN Forum in 2010.
  15. I know Comodo Firewall quite well as I used it in the past. A lot of information about Comodo was already collected by me including links and versions. A good source is among others the Comodo Forum.
  16. Look 'n' Stop Firewall Look 'n' Stop Firewall is a rule-based firewall that can control both outgoing and incoming traffic. It has a standard set and an enhanced set of predefined rules. Rules can be imported, exported or newly created. Look 'n' Stop Firewall also keeps a detailed log that provides the user with information about all the filtered packets. There are two ways in which the firewall can be operated: in standard mode, once the user decides to restrict access to an application, he/she will not be asked again. The choice remains so until the user manually grant access to it. If Look 'n' Stop Firewall is run in advanced mode, the user is given two extra choices: he/she can grant or restrict access just one time or until restarting Windows. This firewall is a powerful tool and of course compatible with Windows XP. A special mention should be made of the extremely low resource consumption and processor load. The last version 2.07 even supports IPv6. All functions are described on the homepage. The program can be tested for 30 days. Then, however, a licence code must be entered, which unfortunately can no longer be purchased. Same applies to the Phant0m``s Look 'n' Stop Ruleset Deluxe. So this firewall is interesting for those who have already bought, won, inherited or otherwise obtained a licence years ago, such as yours truly. I have used this firewall for a long time, and it served me well. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  17. I forget to mention that using the default profile settings means to have always two profile folders in case of Serpent, New Moon, bnavigator and Iceape-UXP. If you create own profiles without relative paths in another location, you will have only one profile folder for each of these browsers. That's what I usually do.
  18. If you didn't change the default settings in the past, then the following list shows all locations of profile folders in Windows XP: Serpent 52: c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles\ c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Local Settings\Application Data\Moonchild Productions\Basilisk\Profiles\ Serpent 55: c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Application Data\Moonchild\Basilisk\Profiles\ c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Local Settings\Application Data\Moonchild\Basilisk\Profiles\ New Moon 28: c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Application Data\\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\ c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Local Settings\Application Data\\Moonchild Productions\Pale Moon\Profiles\ bnavigator: c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Application Data\Binary Outcast\Borealis\Profiles\ c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Local Settings\Application Data\Binary Outcast\Borealis\Profiles\ Iceape-UXP: c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Application Data\\Hyperbola\Iceape-UXP\Profiles\ c:\Documents and Settings\$USER$\Local Settings\Application Data\\Hyperbola\Iceape-UXP\Profiles\ K-Meleon 76.4.7-Goanna: Profile is located in the program folder (portable!). 19. In the meantime, I tried this legacy, bootstrapped version of Tab Mix Plus. But there are issues when I install the legacy extension loaders in Mypal 68.13.0. When using UserChromeJS, Tab Mix Plus can't be installed even if I change the minversion of Tab Mix Plus v1.0.0-pre.15 from 78 to 68. When using bootstrapLoader.xpi, I am able to install Tab Mix Plus v1.0.0-pre.15, but after restarting the browser, all installed extensions disappear in the Add-ons Manager. Therefore, no settings of the installed extensions via the Add-ons Manager are possible anymore although the extensions are still installed and seem to be working in Mypal. I think both legacy extension loaders are not really compatible with Mypal 68.13.0 at the moment. Mypal 68 is based on Firefox but also different and still in development. Especially everything related to extensions is still incomplete. All tests have been done under the following conditions: A clean, new installation of the second pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0. A clean, new profile without any other extensions installed. Mypal has been configured to be working in single-process mode. Cheers, AstroSkipper

  21. In Germany, we call it "Armutszeugnis". Translated literally into English: "testimony of poverty" which means sloppiness, inability or incompetence. Edit: Sometimes literal translations can lead to misunderstandings. Therefore, I have found a better translation for "Armutszeugnis" and thus replaced "testimony of poverty" with "sign of inadequacy". And all of this, of course, only for our guardian of words @jaclaz! Whereby I would actually rather have content-related, topic-related statements than linguistic, philosophical or political marginal notes! Anyway, I have amended my original post accordingly. 22. In my opinion, Comodo Antivirus is not really an option for Windows XP. If a company places a web page about an antivirus program for Windows XP on the net, but then provides a download link for a version that is no longer XP-compatible, then that It is a sign of inadequacy. Comodo stands for disinformation, their websites are badly maintained and rather misleading. Actually, Comodo should rather be avoided. Here is this ominous "Windows XP" website: https://antivirus.comodo.com/security/windows-xp-free-antivirus.php. The download link on this page https://antivirus.comodo.com/download/thank-you.php?prod=cloud-antivirus&from=cav_installer&track=16703&af=16703 is redirected to this link https://cdn.download.comodo.com/cis/download/installs/8060/standalone/cispro_installer.exe, which ultimately downloads the offline installer of the non XP-compatible version 12.2.4.8032. As a Windows XP user, you feel totally fooled. And in the past, the Comodo websites were no better. Not to mention the program itself. Nevertheless, I will also deal with Comodo Antivirus here in due course, but more for the sake of completeness.
  23. FYI, the new pre-release of Mypal 68.13.0 has also a new default user agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:78.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/78.0 Mypal/68.13.0. I guess that from now on you can also try extensions whose minversion is 78.0. Of course, these extensions have to be edited regarding the minversion in the file manifest.json. Since this has already worked for uBlock Origin 1.49.2 as I have shown in previous posts, I am hopeful that this will also work for others. Cheers, AstroSkipper
  24. Ultra Virus Killer Ultra Virus Killer is a comprehensive tool for removing viruses and adware. It also offers some functions to maintain your system and protect it from dangerous changes in the registry. Most UVK features are free, but some require a user license. They have recently stopped supporting Windows XP. The last XP-compatible version is 11.9.8.0. Ultra Virus Killer is available in an installable and a portable version. Main features: System Booster Smart Uninstaller Quick User Manager System Immunization System Repair Threat Scanner All features are explained on UVK's homepage in detail. Homepage: https://www.carifred.com/uvk/ Version number: 11.9.8.0 Date of release: 29.03.2023 Release notes: System requirements: Windows XP 32/64 bit Windows Vista 32/64 bit Windows 7 32/64 bit Windows 8 32/64 bit Windows 10 32/64 bit Windows 11 Review: https://www.techfortechs.co.uk/uvk10 Download links: https://www.carifred.com/uvk/UVKInstaller_xp.exe https://www.carifred.com/uvk/UVKPortable_xp.exe https://www.carifred.com/uvk/UVK_xp.zip Screenshots: Video tutorial (by the author): I already presented here Ultra Adware Killer. This tool is part of Ultra Virus Killer. All in all, I think Ultra Virus Killer is an interesting collection of tools and can be helpful if problems occur in Windows XP. Greetings, AstroSkipper
  25. @Egorkaru Your issue is very special, and a solution does not necessarily benefit the general public. Moreover, the tone makes the music. Your error spam here is rather impolite and counterproductive. One polite request is always enough.
