My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
@nicolaasjan BTW, you are welcome to post your corrected Dutch language pack in my thread Extensions and custom buttons for UXP browsers - Corrections, modifications, adjustments, and special recommendations. Then, I would list it in the second post of my thread, as I already did for my German language packs, so that users can find it much more easily. Only if you want, of course. -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Under browser\chrome\de\locale\browser\preferences\, for example, new entities were added to the file content.dtd starting from line 33 jsOptions.label, jsOptionsWasm.label, jsOptionsWasm.accesskey. The best is to compare this file with the original English one, and you will see all the entities to be added, removed or changed. -

My German language pack for New Moon 28 - Fixed - Part 2 In the German language pack from the quoted post above, I found another issue under Einstellungen -> Inhalt -> Farben months ago. Here is a screenshot to demonstrate this issue: I had already fixed this problem at that time and the language pack got the version number 28.10.0rc3. This fixed version wasn't offered by me, though. Here is a screenshot of the fixed version: Yesterday, @roytam1 reported a new problem in the preference menu under Einstellungen -> Datenschutz due to changes of some entities. Here is a screenshot of this new issue: Today, I have fixed this issue in version 28.10.0rc3 and have assigned the number 28.10.0rc4 to the new, corrected version. Here is a screenshot of the fixed version: And here is the download link of the updated, German language package in version 28.10.0rc4 for New Moon 28 from 2023-10-19 and up: https://www.mediafire.com/file/6f7jyk6fldmzihh/de-28.10.0_RC4.xpi/file Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

Thanks for the hint, @roytam1! I'll update my German language pack as soon as possible. I already fixed another problem in the options dialogue months ago. -
Managing search engines in Mypal 68 Mypal 68 comes with a few search engines pre-installed by @feodor2. In his latest release 68.13.4b, the search engine Qwant is set as default. Other available search engines are Brave, Mojeek and Startpage. Many, however, will not like this. I personally don't like Qwant and miss my favourite search engines. There is now an extra thread in Mypal 68's issues in which the current situation of the provided search engines is controversially discussed. Have a look here: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/295 To be honest, I think such a discussion is completely superfluous and does not lead anywhere. Why? It is quite simple. Everyone has their own preferences or needs and can easily determine for themselves which search engines should or should not be available. The first measure is to remove all those that are not desired. Next, one can embed new search engines in Mypal 68 in different ways. This can be done, for example, by visiting providers who make a search engine available via OpenSearch on their website which can be installed by the user with a simple click in the search bar. Or, one visits the website Mycroft Project which is a collection of over 27 thousand OpenSearch & Sherlock Search Engine Plugins, especially for Firefox-based browsers. It is a perfect service to add search engines to supported browsers in a very simple way. The Mycroft Project provides many search engine plugins created by Mycroft itself and additionally such plugins which were contributed and provided there by users. I did the same and created my own, custom search engine plugins for MSFN long time ago which I have recently corrected due to problems in converting spaces in the search string and therefore updated. More about that, you will find here: These search engine plugins work without any problems in Mypal 68. Furthermore, custom search engines can be modified or created and added by extensions which I will present in my next posts. Cheers, AstroSkipper

@VistaLover I have linked your post about Add to Search Bar https://msfn.org/board/topic/183923-extensions-and-custom-buttons-for-uxp-browsers-corrections-modifications-adjustments-and-special-recommendations/?do=findComment&comment=1254575 to my second post Alphabetical list of all posted extensions. I think that such an extension should get its due attention and not be lost. Best regards, AstroSkipper

Greetings back! Very interesting extension! I have installed it, and it works perfectly. Thanks for the hint! Of course, if I had had this extension on hand, everything would have been much easier. I put everything together myself, and creating my MSFN Search Engine Plugins was not the easiest thing to do. You have to know about GET and POST commands, and all relevant parameters for searching in the desired forum. In contrast when using the extension Add to Search Bar, you have to know nothing about search engines. Only a few clicks and the search engine is added. Great! Cheers, AstroSkipper

Custom MSFN Search Engine Plugins by AstroSkipper The Mycroft Project is a collection of over 27 thousand OpenSearch & Sherlock Search Engine Plugins, especially for Firefox-based browsers. It is a perfect service to add search engines to supported browsers in a very simple way. I guess most of you already know this project. On the one hand, there are many search engine plugins created by Mycroft itself. Furthermore, many people have contributed there and provided different, custom search engine plugins. I did the same and created my own, custom search engine plugins for MSFN long time ago which I have recently corrected due to problems in converting spaces in the search string and therefore updated. One is for searching the Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes subforum and another for searching the Windows XP subforum. Here is a screenshot: With these plugins, the user can directly search the corresponding subforums by using the browser's search bar. Here are the links for installing them: MSFN - Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes MSFN - Windows XP My custom search engine plugins can easily be modified for searching other MSFN subforums. Cheers, AstroSkipper

I use Mypal 68 in single-process mode from the very first time. I never had any BSODs, neither when running nor when closing the browser. Recently, I tested this browser in multiprocess mode. Even in this mode, I didn't notice any crashes or BSODs. But the RAM consumption by this browser in multiprocess mode is terrible in contrast to the single-process mode. To reduce this RAM consumption I therefore rebased the file xul.dll. This way I was able to reduce the memory consumption in both modes. But I personally will definitely stay in single-process mode.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Why the thread Extensions and custom buttons for UXP browsers - Corrections, modifications, adjustments, and special recommendations is located in the forum Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes, does not need to be explained any further and is crystal clear . Same for userscripts to inject further functionality into old, legacy browsers. But in terms of the thread Monkey Scripts, the creator @NotHereToPlayGames should first be asked whether he agrees to a relocation. It is not acceptable that someone here simply orders such a relocation. That is rather a no-go. -

Is that here another (360)Chrome thread? I do not hope so. -
FYI, I opened a new issue on Mypal 68's GitHub page. It is the issue #296 with the title Errors and problems when installing and updating extensions in Mypal 68. As the title already says, I will post there all errors and problems that come to my attention when installing and updating extensions in Mypal 68. By doing so, I hope that @feodor2 will be able to fix the currently existing errors and bugs related to extensions more easily and in a more targeted way. Cheers, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

... I beg to differ : then: Sorry, my bad! I didn't notice that I had disabled uBlock Origin on GitHub in the past. Thus, the filter had no effect. After enabling, everything works as described by you. Thanks again! -

Thanks for the fix! It works as described in Serpent 52, but unfortunately not in New Moon 28. -
Actually Panda didn't work on Windows 7 32 bit for me either. Errors with dot net as well. Anyways you mentioned you got it working on XP64 by installing application verifier and dot net 4. I never heard of this application verifier. What does it do ? You have actually asked the question to the wrong person. @UCyborg got it working on Windows XP 64-bit: Got Panda running on XP x64 And if you had read this thread carefully, you would have noticed that a link was already provided by @WSC4 that explains and documents the Application Verifier programme in detail: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/application-verifier First read, then ask is actually the normal and correct way.

Although I had thoroughly investigated the problem cited above, which I observed in Glarysoft's Quick Startup programme, over a longer period of time, I could not find the actual cause why this startup manager is not able to identify system services. Therefore, I completely uninstalled Glarysoft's Quick Startup in my Windows XP Professional partition with all POSReady updates months ago. In this partition, I have since installed a different and even better startup manager. It's the HiBit Startup Manager. More about that soon. Cheers, AstroSkipper

It almost looks like it! Good observation! Thanks for reporting and clarifying! Although I'm not a Windows XP 64-bit user, this is good news for everyone who uses this operating system.

Or, you should have just read my article about Panda Free Antivirus carefully: But it would be much more interesting to know whether Panda Free Antivirus runs stably under Windows XP 64-bit For example, what about the initially reported starting problems of Panda's service PSUAService? Thanks! Of course, I have known all this for a long time. Unfortunately, this is a matter of interpretation and definition. Mebibyte (MiB) did not exist in the past. And many use MB as what MiB is now. Explorer, Total Commander and myself use the following old designation MB. The following applies: 1024 B = 1 KB. 1024 KB = 1 MB. 93181864 B = 93181864 : 1024^2 MB ≈ 88.87 MB. That's what is MiB nowadays. The designation MiB emphasises the binary character of the unit and MB is now to be given only a decimal character. So, I agree with you, the Opera download manager on my Android tablet uses the decimal character of MB (1 MB = 1000 KB) and has, in itself, done nothing wrong. I personally prefer to stay with my old designation MB, which is always to be understood in a binary context (1 MB = 1024 KB). Thus, I am definitely not imprecise what of course is to be expected in science but simply old school. Best regards, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
TBH, I do not use 10 years old, unsupported browsers at all. And that wouldn't make sense either , at least as long there are more recent ones which is the case under Windows XP. Your statement was: I replied: New Moon 28 is an old, legacy browser but still updated, thanks to @roytam1. And there is no problem to access your linked website https://web.archive.org/web/20140701122330/http://lights.helloenjoy.com/. As I already stated, it is a problem of defining what an old web browser is. So, if I take you literally, then your statement is not correct. The website web.archive.org works in old browsers to view archived web sites. The proof is here: Kind regards, AstroSkipper -
To be more precise 93181864 B corresponds to 88.8652 MB ≈ 88.87 MB ≈ 88.9 MB. So, @VistaLover, @Saxon and @Dixel are definitely right. In general, rounded values are not really suitable when it comes to comparing files. It is better to take the value in bytes (B).
