My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
And in Serpent 52 (2023-11-10), the download window is definitely not resized as it should : Sometimes, it is rendered correctly, but mostly not. @roytam1 Can you have a look into that? And is the content of this window as to be expected? Cheers, AstroSkipper -

Using a more recent profile, the download window in New Moon 28 (2023-11-10) looks like in the following screenshot: I did not choose to open anything, of course. Unfortunately, there is no option in this window or entry in the Applications window to set the default action when downloading an executable file. -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
In the most recent version of New Moon 28, 2023-11-10, both, the application and the download window, is working and showing entries. Here are two screenshots taken from New Moon 28 (2023-11-10): Therefore, regarding New Moon 28, I can't confirm the issue in my very old profile as described by @VistaLover. I will also have a look when creating a new profile. Cheers, AstroSkipper -
In Firefox 4, the status bar was replaced with the add-on bar, an empty, but customizable, toolbar. In Firefox 29, Mozilla decided to rework the UI again, and ended up in removing the add-on bar as well. From Firefox 29 to 56, the add-on bar could be restored by the extensions Status-4-Evar or Classic Theme Restorer. Mypal 68 is based on the code of Firefox 68esr, called Firefox Quantum, where no add-on bar can be found or natively be enabled by the user. Therefore, I have been looking for ways to reimplement such a status or add-on bar in Mypal 68 with the functionality to display currently loading URLs and hovered links and to place toolbar buttons there. I finally managed to do this and now I have my status bar again like in the old days. The implementation was done by JavaScript and CSS. Here is a screenshot: Cheers, AstroSkipper

Here are two screenshots to show where and by what means modifications have been done to the user interface of Mypal 68.13.5b: The colours of the areas mean how the modification was made. Red stands for CSS only, blue for JavaScript only, and green for both, JavaScript + CSS. Cheers, AstroSkipper

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
You know I don't use Vista and never did before. Therefore, I don't know any details about compatibility with other OSes than Windows XP. And there was no real need for me to try it under Windows 7 or up. Anyway! Thanks for clarification! And happy Thursday evening to you, too!- 922 replies

Developing the JavaScript engine is of course a top priority in order to improve or restore compatibility with modern websites. But everything that has to do with time zones and local time does not work for a very long time. Many extensions need this feature. Maybe, you can reactivate or better re-implement it in the meantime only if the effort is manageable, of course.

Of course, your project, your priorities. I assume in terms of fixing issues it has a similar priority as the issue Internationalization & Localization https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/96 and others which were already long reported before. Right?

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use

And congrats to your developed Vista SP2 x86 targeting edition of ProxyMII! However, I thought @cmalex's ProxyMII version would also run under Vista.- 922 replies

That's correct. I noticed that, too when using the most recent version of ProxHTTPSProxy. That's why I already updated my post. Best regards, AstroSkipper- 922 replies

Mypal 68.13.5b does not recognise the system proxy settings under Windows XP which have been set in the proxy settings of IE 8 although the option Use system proxy settings under Network Settings is enabled. I tested this with ProxHTTPSProxy. Can anyone confirm this?

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Generally, everything I said in my last post applies. But unfortunately not for https://browserleaks.com/tls which does not work properly with ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a due to certificate problems. I have just tested it. As we already know, this old proxy supports only SHA1 for signing certificates but not SHA256. For browserleaks.com, you need a more recent version of ProxHTTPSProxy and a more recent browser. No full functionality in IE8 anymore. Therefore, forget about https://browserleaks.com/tls and try https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html! Here is a screenshot accessing https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html with ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a and IE8: This service works with the old ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a. As you can see, the old proxy already supports the TLS 1.2 protocol. Therefore, it should work with MU/WU. But one thing is clear: ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a is obsolete and won't work properly with many sites in these days. Cheers, AstroSkipper- 922 replies

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Not really. Actually, you do not need to add browserleaks.com anywhere. So, why did you do that? Anyway! Please, remove these entries! If ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a has been configured correctly, entered as a proxy in IE and started, it should work immediately when calling up browserleaks.com in IE. In any case, the website must not show n/a (no js). Your current settings block JavaScript on this website. No good. All SSL connections should be processed by ProxHTTPSProxyMII. You should only modify the config.ini file if you really know what you are doing and for what reason. Otherwise, the proxy won't work as expected due to misconfigurations.- 922 replies

Hello @a8s! Cookie Quick Manager 0.5rc2 (and probably most of the others as well) works in Mypal 68.13.5b. No problems here. Maybe, your profile or your Mypal installation is corrupt or misconfigured. First, you should create a fresh profile and try to install the extensions again. If this doesn't help, you can perform a fresh installation of Mypal 68.13.5b. Here is a proof in the form of a screenshot: Cheers, AstroSkipper

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Check on the website https://browserleaks.com/ssl which TLS protocols and ciphers are supported by ProxHTTPSProxyMII 1.3a! I personally never used it. Therefore, I don't know which TLS protocols and ciphersuites are offered by this old version.- 922 replies

Compared to legacy extensions I unfortunately do. Legacy extensions are able to change the browser interface and web pages. The so called "web" extensions are not.

Here are some screenshots of Mypal 68 showing my changes to the user interface: If you want to find all changes I have made, you simply have to compare my posted images with your interface of Mypal 68. BTW, I actually do not use themes, but I am a lover of (especially black) cats and found this one. Therefore, I couldn't resist and made an exception this time. All my user interface modifications can't be done by using web extensions due to their damn restrictions in the more recent versions of Firefox. The only way is to change the source code of the browser or to inject JavaScript and CSS code into it. More about the changes I made to the user interface coming soon. Cheers, AstroSkipper

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
@WSC4 Generally spoken, you can only connect those old programmes to external servers via ProxHTTPSProxy which use the IE engine or offer own settings to connect completely via a local proxy. Or you try to connect to ProxHTTPSProxy via SocksCap64. Have a look here: Cheers, AstroSkipper- 922 replies

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Hello @WSC4! Do you mean Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express? Both email clients are very old now and totally unsupported in Windows XP. Therefore, I assume they won't work with most email providers like Gmail and others in these days due to the lack of Oauth2 and other modern security implementations even if a TLS 1.2 connection to these services could be successfully established via ProxHTTPSProxy. My favourite email client for Windows XP is MailNews which works with all my used email services. These more recent email clients come with their own TLS protocols and ciphers which provide TLS 1.2 functionality at least. Using such clients means that ProxHTTPSProxy isn't needed then.- 922 replies

Mypal 68 is a great browser for all still using Windows XP. This browser is constantly being further developed and is now a real alternative if @roytam1's browsers can't cope with certain websites. And for those who miss the old Firefox user interface, there are ways to change the appearance of Mypal 68. In my first post of this thread, I already described how to activate the use of JavaScript scripts and CSS stylesheets in Mypal 68 by adding uc.js and css files. The last week, I have done that more deeply and changed the user interface to get rid of all personally perceived annoyances. I deleted and modified different elements and added new to the user interface. However, as I've mentioned before, I am not a professional programmer, more of a hobby coder, but I do have some JavaScript and CSS knowledge to make and implement such changes. And I have expanded my knowledge considerably. In the next post, I will then upload screenshots of my browser window to give you an impression of what I have already changed. Cheers, AstroSkipper

MPC-HC and Winrar backported for Windows XP
AstroSkipper replied to tirigliu's topic in Software Hangout
I check some programmes for updates from time to time. Regarding UniExtract2 I maintain an own article about such tools: No more and no less. And tools like WinRAR, 7-Zip and UniExtract2 are very important, especially for me.
