My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Thanks for the fix! It works as described in Serpent 52, but unfortunately not in New Moon 28. -
Actually Panda didn't work on Windows 7 32 bit for me either. Errors with dot net as well. Anyways you mentioned you got it working on XP64 by installing application verifier and dot net 4. I never heard of this application verifier. What does it do ? You have actually asked the question to the wrong person. @UCyborg got it working on Windows XP 64-bit: Got Panda running on XP x64 And if you had read this thread carefully, you would have noticed that a link was already provided by @WSC4 that explains and documents the Application Verifier programme in detail: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/application-verifier First read, then ask is actually the normal and correct way.

Although I had thoroughly investigated the problem cited above, which I observed in Glarysoft's Quick Startup programme, over a longer period of time, I could not find the actual cause why this startup manager is not able to identify system services. Therefore, I completely uninstalled Glarysoft's Quick Startup in my Windows XP Professional partition with all POSReady updates months ago. In this partition, I have since installed a different and even better startup manager. It's the HiBit Startup Manager. More about that soon. Cheers, AstroSkipper

It almost looks like it! Good observation! Thanks for reporting and clarifying! Although I'm not a Windows XP 64-bit user, this is good news for everyone who uses this operating system.

Or, you should have just read my article about Panda Free Antivirus carefully: But it would be much more interesting to know whether Panda Free Antivirus runs stably under Windows XP 64-bit For example, what about the initially reported starting problems of Panda's service PSUAService? Thanks! Of course, I have known all this for a long time. Unfortunately, this is a matter of interpretation and definition. Mebibyte (MiB) did not exist in the past. And many use MB as what MiB is now. Explorer, Total Commander and myself use the following old designation MB. The following applies: 1024 B = 1 KB. 1024 KB = 1 MB. 93181864 B = 93181864 : 1024^2 MB ≈ 88.87 MB. That's what is MiB nowadays. The designation MiB emphasises the binary character of the unit and MB is now to be given only a decimal character. So, I agree with you, the Opera download manager on my Android tablet uses the decimal character of MB (1 MB = 1000 KB) and has, in itself, done nothing wrong. I personally prefer to stay with my old designation MB, which is always to be understood in a binary context (1 MB = 1024 KB). Thus, I am definitely not imprecise what of course is to be expected in science but simply old school. Best regards, AstroSkipper

Update notification! Panda Free Antivirus has been updated and is now of version 22.01.01. Furthermore, I added the link to @UCyborg's post Got Panda running on XP x64 and @VistaLover's provided, alternatve link for the offline installer to my article. Cheers, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
TBH, I do not use 10 years old, unsupported browsers at all. And that wouldn't make sense either , at least as long there are more recent ones which is the case under Windows XP. Your statement was: I replied: New Moon 28 is an old, legacy browser but still updated, thanks to @roytam1. And there is no problem to access your linked website https://web.archive.org/web/20140701122330/http://lights.helloenjoy.com/. As I already stated, it is a problem of defining what an old web browser is. So, if I take you literally, then your statement is not correct. The website web.archive.org works in old browsers to view archived web sites. The proof is here: Kind regards, AstroSkipper -
To be more precise 93181864 B corresponds to 88.8652 MB ≈ 88.87 MB ≈ 88.9 MB. So, @VistaLover, @Saxon and @Dixel are definitely right. In general, rounded values are not really suitable when it comes to comparing files. It is better to take the value in bytes (B).

All horses back! The download manager in Opera on my Android tablet shows a wrong file size. Now, I am back at my desktop computer, and the file size of FREEAV.exe matches nearly the one you posted: 93181864 B (88.9 MB). I already corrected my posts. So this time, we seem to get the same offline installer regardless of our location. Kindest regards, AstroSkipper

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
All archived websites, I wanted to access via web.archive.org were properly displayed in New Moon 28 for the last years. Some weeks ago, when I had to access such websites on web.archive.org, there were definitely no problems I could have noticed. But I'll test your link when I am at my desktop computer again. At the moment, I am surfing on my Android tablet. I tested your linked website in the latest release of New Moon 28 (2023-10-06). I couldn't observe any serious problems except the initially cumbersome loading I already mentioned. Here is a screenshot as a proof: -

I can remember very well. I checked my provided link some minutes before posting and the file FREEAV.exe has indeed the size of 93 88.9 MB. It seems to depend on the country from which you access the link. You know the proof is in the pudding. So, you can try to access the link with a German IP via VPN to check if the file size changes. I'll try to download the file with a Hellenic IP.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
The website web.archive.org can of course be used to view archived websites in old web browsers. It works, for example, in New Moon 28 or Serpent 52. It's more a question of defining what an old web browser is. The ability to temporarily disable CSP in UXP browsers is great. I need this frequently. E.g. to load certain web pages in iframes. -
There is a big difference whether there is an official warning, such as that from the BSI, for a programme or not. Such official warnings do not exist for Malwarebytes, Panda and AVG, but they do for Kaspersky. Any turning off features changes nothing at all. TBH, such an official warning says it all. And finally stop with your anti- and pro-categories in this thread! That has no place here.

I never had any problems with installers, and especially installers of antimalware programmes, in terms of detecting the .NET Framework versions installed under Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit (and even including all POSReady updates). So, I can't confirm this statement. But under Windows XP 64-bit, this seems to be more the case. I personally am really glad not to have to use Windows XP 64-bit.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
I personally control CSP via my self-created custom button Toggle CSP which I made available to the public a long time ago here: Due to the colours of Toggle CSP, one always knows whether CSP is enabled (green) or disabled (red). Disabling CSP is of course associated with a loss of security. On the other hand, CSP causes a lot of problems with different websites. So, it's up to the user to decide whether to enable or disable this feature. -

Ok! Maybe, I have no problems accessing this website because I have generally disabled CSP in New Moon 28 for some reasons. -

Although web.archive.org works for me in New Moon 28, I have noticed, however, that the website has become more cumbersome and difficult to load than it was a few months ago. -

Restoring the manual and automatic update function for extensions in Mypal 68.13.3b Replace the file omni.ja in the main programme folder of Mypal 68.13.3b by the fixed one, uploaded by @feodor2, from here: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/286#issuecomment-1753451203 Check if the value of the pref extensions.htmlaboutaddons.enabled is false. Set the pref extensions.update.enabled to the value true. Set the pref extensions.update.url to the value https://versioncheck.addons.mozilla.org/update/VersionCheck.php?reqVersion=%REQ_VERSION%&id=%ITEM_ID%&version=%ITEM_VERSION%&maxAppVersion=%ITEM_MAXAPPVERSION%&status=%ITEM_STATUS%&appID=%APP_ID%&appVersion=%APP_VERSION%&appOS=%APP_OS%&appABI=%APP_ABI%&locale=%APP_LOCALE%¤tAppVersion=%CURRENT_APP_VERSION%&updateType=%UPDATE_TYPE%&compatMode=%COMPATIBILITY_MODE% Set the pref extensions.update.background.url to the value https://versioncheck-bg.addons.mozilla.org/update/VersionCheck.php?reqVersion=%REQ_VERSION%&id=%ITEM_ID%&version=%ITEM_VERSION%&maxAppVersion=%ITEM_MAXAPPVERSION%&status=%ITEM_STATUS%&appID=%APP_ID%&appVersion=%APP_VERSION%&appOS=%APP_OS%&appABI=%APP_ABI%&locale=%APP_LOCALE%¤tAppVersion=%CURRENT_APP_VERSION%&updateType=%UPDATE_TYPE%&compatMode=%COMPATIBILITY_MODE% Clear the cache and restart the browser. Now, the update function should work finally again after this long time. If there is more to fix, we will see after further testing. In any case, with the settings I listed above, I had the first successes in updating two extensions, Clear Cache from version 3.1 to 3.2 and Simple Translate from version 2.8.0 to 2.8.2. Here are some screenshots to document the restored updating in Mypal 68.13.3b in single-process mode: Before updating the extensions: While updating the extensions: After updating the extensions: At the moment, uBlock Origin can't be updated this way. You have to do that manually as usual. This issue is described more detailed in Mypal's issue #287 here: https://github.com/Feodor2/Mypal68/issues/287#issuecomment-1755185457 Cheers, AstroSkipper

@tekkaman This thread is exclusively about security programmes for Windows XP . Therefore, your observation or problem is unfortunately off-topic. You should post it in the Windows 7 forum. BTW, I had no problem to install Panda Antivirus Free in the version 22.00.01 under Windows XP. And the installer didn't want me to install .NET Framework 4 either, presumably because my Windows XP was and is fully updated. Cheers, AstroSkipper
