I always appreciate your investigations. Maybe, my installer is more recent, or there are different versions. I download it from Germany, maybe they redirect to another server or file. A lot of different possibilities. I downloaded it by myself and by using the online installer. Same sizes! Anyway! Dito! Καληνυχτα!

I do not use the Windows Explorer directly. All file operations are only performed by me using Total Commander. The best Windows file manger ever! But for you as requested, a screenshot from my Windows Explorer additionally: I never observed any differences between WE and TC in terms of file sizes. I use TC since 1995. It's always the first tool I generally install in a new Windows partition. Greetings

There is a special tool to check a .NET Framework installation called .NET Framework Setup Verification Tool. Download it from the internet! The more recent tool is now called Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool. Here is its download page: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135

Ok. No SSE2 problem. You said all that happened after a clean reinstall of XP SP3. My next assumption is an essential component is missing or damaged while installing. I would check the Microsoft .NET Framework installation first. BTW, what version is the Panda Dome installer of you used for installation? The version of my offline installer is 15.14.5.0 with a size of 92.041.632 Bytes. And you should get rid of all remnants of previous Panda installations before you start the next attempt. @Ryder252 It doesn't matter whether you use the online or offline installer. Both should work, or something is wrong in your system. I used the online installer, and it worked flawlessly. Check your network, partition or better, your whole system! At least, that's what I would do.

AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
Hello @Mark-XP! Sorry for the late reply! I totally overviewed this. I managed to get the "Alternating row highlighting" working in MailNews right away without any problems. So what is your problem in detail? For me, it works like a charm. Here is a small screenshot from my MailNews client: Greetings from Germany, -

Panda Dome installs fine in Windows XP Professional SP3. No problems here. My system is fully updated including all POSReady updates. These are the system requirements for installing Panda Dome: Does your CPU support the SSE2 instruction set? Running an installation program that then immediately closes again is something I know well from systems whose CPU does not support SSE2, although the program needs this feature.

I did a scan of my system partition by MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit. Surprisingly, the tool found a strange file that other AV programs did not notice. In any case, it is always a wise decision to use different scan tools. The one perfect tool will never exist. But we have to be glad that there are still a few tools running under Windows XP at all.
-
MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit is an antivirus/antimalware offline scanner for a manual checking of the computer and cleaning if necessary. WiseVector StopX is an AI based antivirus program with a background guard, but its development has stopped, unfortunately So they are completely different and not easy to compare. You will find only a few tests of both tools in the internet. They are not as well known as the AV programs produced by big antivirus manufacturers. MWAV is a good tool, easy to handle and is updated on a regular base. I do trust it. For more information, follow this link to its English homepage: https://www.escanav.com/en/mwav-tools/download-free-antivirus-toolkit.asp If you are looking for an antivirus program with real-time protection under Windows XP, you can try Panda Dome. I wrote about this program in previous posts. In my system, I use both, Panda Dome and MWAV. A good combination, in my opinion.

My Browser Builds (Part 4)

seems to be fine as well. Great to see that Tab Mix Plus is working again in Serpent 52! I therefore assume that the error I reported regarding Tab Utilities Phoenix has also been solved. In any case, I am very excited about the new releases and am already looking forward to them. -
You always pay with your data. Therefore, these commercial antivirus scanner are not really free. But if you don't want that, you should avoid using Microsoft Windows, especially more recent ones. In these OSs, you always pay with your data, even if you have paid for your Windows. You can switch to Linux or take all kinds of countermeasures. BTW, MWAV - eScan Antivirus Toolkit is free of charge and an offline scanner which doesn't need any internet connections. Updating can be done offline, too. All has been described in this post and the subsequent:

Thanks for your hint! I already wrote about these modifications here in these posts: I left the maxVersion at 52.9.* but it can increased at any time (especially for Serpent 55), of course. All these extensions work in Serpent 52 and New Moon 28. I use a lot of them. But nevertheless, thank you for your contribution here! As always, much appreciated. Kind regards, AstroSkipper

I used ClamWin in Windows ME for a long time. It is still installed there, as this partition was never deleted due to historical reasons. Unfortunately, the detection rate is not that good, and the program does not have its own background guard. For this, one must additionally use an external tool called Clam Sentinel which unfortunately consumes a lot of resources in these old OSs. But as far as I know, it is one of the last working AV programs for Win9x/ME. Under Windows XP, I would try to avoid it, unless it would be the last existing AV program for XP at all. The good is ClamWin is Opensource.

All has been said, some is good, some rather not. That's life. So let's get back on topic here before more such witty comments see the light of day and multiply like rabbits. This thread is about antivirus and security programs in Windows XP SP3. One of my last recommendations was Panda Dome. I have been using it for a while, and it works flawlessly, without any problems. I am very happy with Panda. It really consumes few resources, and you hardly notice it in the background. In my system, a perfect choice without affecting the responsiveness of Windows XP and its installed applications. Of course, some exclusions have to be made in Panda, as it is the case in other antivirus programs, too. The installation of Panda Dome (two program folders) requires a total of only about 160 MB on the drive and uses about 120 MB RAM. The RAM usage may vary depending on what is going on in your system. Anyway! I think these are very good values for today's time. Cheers, AstroSkipper

Of course, I can say that. And I do it once more. Your assumption is wrong. I used Avast Antivirus, Avast Internet Security and Avast Premier more than 10 years. I know all about them. And I tried it on different hardware. Avast was abandoned by me due to my posted experiences months ago. Anyway! It's all water under the bridge. I use other, better and much lighter security software instead as I already wrote in this thread. What you are doing here is more of a body snatching kind of thing. Please, stop reviving old comments of mine! Or better, stop quoting me in general if possible! Thanks for that in advance!

My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
That's why I already posted the output of my web console above additonally: I fear that this is much more difficult to fix, if at all. I also posted this to the issues of martok's palefill on GitHub as I already mentioned above. Here is the link: https://github.com/martok/palefill/issues/85#issue-1615306551 The web console also shows a JavaSript error in my screenshot. I wonder if this can be polyfilled somehow. -

Here is a link with all official language packs for Firefox 45.9.0esr: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/45.9.0esr/win32/xpi/ Maybe, they are still working or they have to be modified. I don't know that as I don't use this browser. For changing the language, you can use a language switcher extension, or you do it manually in the preference general.useragent.locale via about:config as usual. -
XP/Vista-compatible clients for modern email services?
AstroSkipper replied to Mathwiz's topic in Windows XP
To force the updated installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.6.5 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I updated again my small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.6.5.exe. Here is the download link of my loader Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.exe: https://www.mediafire.com/file/i5bckh1l88a42in/Force_En_Install_DM_Pro_6665.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper -
My Browser Builds (Part 4)
AstroSkipper replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Yep, I reverted the preference dom.webcomponents.enabled back to its default setting. Too much errors in my web console. An old, weak CPU also has advantages, though. The user notices immediately that something is getting out of hand. -

Thanks for the tip! Setting dom.webcomponents.enabled to false did the trick. Does setting this preference to false have a negative impact on other functions? Rejoiced too soon! The web interface is loading completely, but a file can't be uploaded and unfortunately, this setting leads to a 100% utilisation of my CPU, palemoon.exe needs round about 93%. Therefore, no solution for me, unfortunately. Sorry to say that! I think another solution has to be found. BTW, same problem in New Moon 28. Edit: To be a bit more precise, setting dom.webcomponents.enabled to false in my testing profile of Serpent 52, the CPU load starts by 50%,. There, I was able to upload a file which leads to a 100% load on my CPU in the end. In New Moon 28, the VirusTotal interface starts with a 100% load on my CPU, and I was unable to upload my test file. And the Web Console is full of errors. Therefore, I also reported this to the issues of martok's palefill on GitHub.
