I used it a long time ago. It manages the connections to Proxy Servers. Hmm, wasn't there something? Oh yes, unfortunately off-topic as already clarified and sufficiently discussed! I suggest to open a new thread about Proxy Servers if necessary. I do not use them anymore. Anyway! This thread was and is actually intended for the discussion about VPN in Windows XP.

Of course, OpenVPN is opensource. But it's just a VPN client. You need configuration files *.ovpn which contain necessary data for connecting to a certain VPN server. Most commercial VPN provider offer configuration files to connect to their servers via OpenVPN protocol. And, a more recent, inofficial client compatible with Windows XP is available, too. The old ones don't work anymore in most cases.

You are right!

The prefs I had to toggle in the past didn't need any restart of the browser. But, you can add a restart button and place it next to your toggle button. I have a restart button which comes with the extension Toolbar Buttons.

What do you mean by "we"? Who are you speaking for? If you wanted to ask that you are not aware of any *XP-compatible* paid VPN solutions currently available for purchase, then here is the answer of a Frisian. You are wrong, unfortunately. My main OS is Windows XP and I use paid VPN services with no log policy via L2TP/IPSec, OpenVPN and PPTP protocol for years. Therefore, I am on-topic, which seems to be rather a rarity here in this thread.

The quoted article you posted above is about proxy servers and anonymity. This thread is about VPN in Windows XP, though. Conclusion: your posting is off-topic, again, unfortunately. By the way, VPN means Virtual Private Network, and has nothing to do with proxy servers. Truth be told, I usually do not use proxy servers such as anonymous proxies for example but only VPN to get anonymity.

Unfortunately, I didn't say Free VPN. services are outdated but they are crap. That's a completely different statement. Therefore, the comparison makes no sense at all. Although off-topic, you are right. The cat needs definitely help , but in Munich, the state capital of Bavaria. It's far away from here.

First read and then write is always a good idea: This thread is about VPN in Windows XP. Nice cat, but unfortunately, completely misplaced and off-topic! And by the way, I already have a cat, and I do really know what to do with my time if I'm not wasting it in unnecessary posts. But in this case, I'm going to make an exception, just for you. I hope you appreciate that.

Avoiding Russisn, Asian or American VPN servers is a very good idea for a European, if possible, of course, and if privacy and anonymity is important. Due to many well-known reasons. It doesn't matter whether someone is located France or Germany. The connections are too slow, physically induced. Americans are feeding permanently NSA & Co, presumably and hopefully against their will. Privacy and anonymity do not really exist in the USA. Have fun with Ultrasurf, @msfntor! Data collectors are already looking forward to it. And give my regards to the NSA!

Unfortunately, not!

You should first use the search function before posting such "news"! The problem has been known for years. It has nothing to do with Legacy Update. MU and WU show the same misbehaviour. So I chose KB4486463 as a dummy update in one of my fixes long ago: Therefore, nothing new in the West! You seem to have used the AU/WU service never before. Otherwise, you'd have noticed that misbehaviour long time ago.

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
@artenox! Everything related to Proxomitron Reborn should be posted here: https://msfn.org/board/topic/183295-web-browser-proxomitron-reborn-ptrongui-a-how-to-guide/#comment-1211610 In any case, Proxomitron Reborn is not a topic here and has to be considered as off-topic.- 922 replies

I use paid VPN services with no log policy as described months ago, and therefore I have the ability to choose from a wide range of servers. Only European servers provide good speed for a German or European user. And of course, I mean UK servers, too. Being more specific wouldn't make any sense unless you'd own appropiate licenses for the same services. In any case, the quality of VPN servers varies significantly. And, once again, nearly all "Free VPN" services are compulsorily crap in one way or another. But, as someone here always likes to say:

@D.Draker! Ok, I tried the search function of MSFN, too. Good news, no Russian influence and no operating errors! The search function of MSFN is not satisfying in many cases. I can't find a lot of things at all. Maybe, there is a content filter which does not allow to search for the string "VPN". Or it is too short. Anyway! Simply put, the search function is rather a malfunction in some cases!

ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use
AstroSkipper replied to AstroSkipper's topic in Windows XP
Thanks for your kind words! Alternatives are always a good thing, of course. Unfortunately, the embedded TLS proxy in your Proxomitron Reborn is totally outdated. This is a quote from my article: And, my program package ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3 is based on ProxyMII and hence much more recent. This thread is about the pure TLS proxies That said, Proxomitron Reborn is not the topic here. There is a separate thread for that in MFSN.- 922 replies

What do you exactly mean?

When I am in the need of VPN, I use special European servers, but not German ones due some reasons. And, do not forget: Europe is Germany -> false. Simple Boolean Algebra! Maybe, the Russians are blocking your search function! Or, although I can hardly imagine it, your search settings were not particularly well chosen.
-
Did I say German servers? No. I said European servers! I wrote many posts with complete information about all important facts in terms of VPN. For example here: Or here: And here: For more, use the forum search! And, I do not use German servers at all. I choose my European servers carefully. I have more than 20 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of VPN in Windows XP. But that's not what we were talking about in the recent posts.
-
What world do you live in? If not American, then you have to use Russian servers? I haven't heard so much nonsense in a long time. Since you don't seem to know anything else, I'll give you a tip. We live in Europe and I prefer European servers. Pretty logical, isn't it?
-
More than very slow. I have tested it in contrast to you as it seems. I am interested in real facts and not in subjective opinions. Connections to American servers only are not a good choice. For many reasons!
-
Normally, @feodor2 released new versions nearly every two months. Now, it is more than three months ago since his last release. Hope all is well!
-
The description "both work well" is a very subjective thing. Unsolicited connection to American servers and a connection speed beyond good and evil rather mean "both don't work well". Which means you didn't test it. A few years ago is not today, unfortunately.

There is no Firefox extension for this "VPN service" called Ultrasurf. And, the Windows client is rather a joke. I had to allow all connections of this client in my firewall to get it work, which I never had to do before for a VPN client and don't like to do. Next problem, you can't choose a certain location. Therefore, I was connected instantly to the USA without asking me. No good! And for a European, certainly not! Furthermore, the connection is as expected very slow, not to mention security and privacy concerns in terms of NSA & Co. In general, I would really like to ask you if you have actually tested any of what you recommend here? I am just beginning to doubt that.
-
All offered versions on Mozilla are for Firefox browsers 91.0.0 and later. And regarding old, abandoned versions for a VPN service, if they exist at all, don't work anymore in general.
