  1. Just a quick update today. No one has complained on the new version of UURollup so far. I hope that everything works fine. Actually, this is the first version which was released after the new "release plan" had been introduced. Before that it wasn't tested that thoroughly but thanks to the daily & weekly versions it's much easier to test everything because changes are made one by one / step by step so all bugs can be traced very quickly. Anyway, I've almost finished downloading all of the official updates but they exceed the 7 GB limit of SkyDrive by ~200 MB so I'm thinking about dividing them into two separate SkyDrive accounts. If I do it then I'll be able to upload SP4 there too. SP4 is available in 25 different language versions and takes 3 GB alone As I said before, I'm going to create a separate topic about this. After that I'm going to continue with the kernel transition of UURollup. A new daily version of it should be ready shortly.
  2. @CharlotteTheHarlot My opinion is no different than yours when it comes to Windows 8. I just think that people look down on tablets too often as if they were completely useless I use the tablet for different things than I use my desktop and vice versa. Their functionalities are different. In my case for writing (input) I use the desktop but for reading (output) mostly the tablet. Writing is much more comfortable on the first one but reading is much better on the latter (I hate reading long texts having to sit in one position and look at the monitor screen for a long time). On the other hand, I couldn't imagine having the same interface on both of them. They're just different - like a car and a bicycle I don't remember who it was but someone said that Windows 8 would have been the best Windows ever if only there had been a choice between Metro and Desktop. PS The train is not very luxurious You sometimes have to stay during the whole ride because there are no free seats. I do have a laptop (a rather old one though) but don't really use it any more because the tablet is just more universal. And at home I just use the desktop.
  3. @jaclaz I understand what you mean I just don't like calling tablets toys. It's up to you how you use them. Someone may indeed use a tablet only for Web browsing, chatting and playing games but it doesn't mean that it's a "toy". Many people use desktops or laptops only for leisure activities too. Would you call them toys? Of course you're right about passiveness of tablet usage (at least most of it) but in such passive activities like I described above it's actually better than a desktop (especially when you're using it outside in many different places) and also more mobile than a laptop (+much longer battery life when it's ARM). @CharlotteTheHarlot It's the same thing. Big screens are very nice when used at home / workplace but not when you're in a train. In my case I travel by train a lot (at least 1,5 hour ride) and I can't think of any better device in such circumstances. For some activities smartphones can be used in the same way too but not for reading simply because of the screen size.
  4. @jaclaz I'd like to disagree. I've got a tablet (a different one, not an iPad ) and find it very useful for always having access to my materials (mostly PDFs). You can synchronise data easily (Dropbox) and are always able to check them even if you're outside, in a train, bus or wherever else. It's not meant to replace a real machine and of course everything depends on what kind of work you're doing. For reading, highlighting text or adding short comments it does play its role well. If you want to write more text then of course a normal desktop computer or even a laptop is much better.
  5. This is a full list of components available on WU: At the moment almost all of them are exactly the same as in Windows XP. There are only a few for Windows XP Embedded... but if the system is indeed going to be supported then M$ will be obliged to release security updates, won't they? If yes then there's hope that updates will be produced after 2014 too.
  6. This is the original hotfix: http://support.microsoft.com/hotfix/KBHotfix.aspx?kbnum=888111 Theoretically it's included in SP3 but the reality is that some files from the hotfix are missing in SP3.
  7. nVIDIA is actually doing pretty good job when it comes to their graphic drivers http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html You can also change the URLs to get the exact version like this: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_169.21
  8. 1. Updates are listed on the following websites: 2K - <url temporarily removed, pending update to new one> XP - http://mimo.zxq.net/updatelist.htm 2K3 - http://www.vorck.com/windows/hotfixes_2003.html 2. The order normally doesn't matter but of course you need to apply big packages like IE, WMP, etc. first and then install updates for them. 3. The KB number doesn't necessarily follow the build time stamp.
  9. KB909520 is back.
  10. A big update today: UURollup-v10c (ENU) is ready. It's almost exactly the same as the last weekly version of UURollup-v11. I've only fixed some minor bugs in the installer. The reason why it's called v10c and not v11 is simply because the changes are not that important and also I want UURollup-v11 to be the first one where BWC kernel is used instead of the currently used WB kernel. This is what has changed: - many files have been updated - several bugs have been fixed - 32-bit icon support has been dropped. Actually I know that I should provide a detailed changelog but I haven't thought about it earlier and no changelog exists for the previous versions of UURollup. It's too late to suddenly start at new one at the moment. I've temporarily removed the complete method from my website. The problem with it was that: - many people were confused about how to use it - the script couldn't download several files anymore because they were removed from M$ servers a few days ago. I'm going to replace it with a HFSLIP-2-Go package later (check Mim0's topic in the HFSLIP subforum for details). I've managed to download almost all Windows 2000 updates / hotfixes / HBRs* from M$ servers (almost 8000 files, 6.5 GB). They are available to download from my second SkyDrive account. I'm going to create a separate topic about it but I'm waiting until I've downloaded absolutely all of the required files. One important point here is that Update Rollup 1 which is no longer available to download from M$ is present in the SkyDrive archive There is just one drawback of SkyDrive which is that you have to be logged in in order to download files larger than ~30 MB. Fortunately it's very easy to create an account there so I hope it won't be an obstacle for anyone interested in getting the files. *acus greatly helped me download the hotfixes.
  11. UURollup (ENU) has been updated to v10c.
  12. Here you are but you need to download them one by one.

    HFSLIP-2-Go

That's what I was thinking about Win2k links would be on http://www.windows2000.tk and XP (& 2003?) links would be on http://mimo.zxq.net.
  14. KB909520 seems to be still available to download from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com I encounter a problem when opening this catalog: blue background - no content. Is it necessary to have something special installed? You need to use Internet Explorer. It works in IE6 on my computer.

    HFSLIP-2-Go

How about having a list of links on your website? People would just go there and download them. As for other people offering packages, maybe creating a new e-mail account, ex. hfslip2go@gmail.com or similar would be useful? Those who have created a package could just send you the URLs by e-mail I'd also host a list of Win2k links on my website and link to your site in case of the XP packages.

    HFSLIP-2-Go

@Mim0 Are you thinking only about the English package or also about packages for other languages? I think that I would be able to provide Windows 2000 packages (for all languages but only ENU on start) and also a Korean package for Windows XP (because I've got a license for XP Pro KOR).
  17. The website is not displayed correctly in Chromium (SRWare Iron here). The download link is not shown at all
  18. Update Rollup 1 is still available here: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com (IE only)
  19. @blackwingcat These functions: kernel32.dll FlsAlloc FlsGetValue FLSSetValue FlsFree advapi32.dll RegGetValueW are included in Windows 2003 Server (NT 5.2) too! They aren't NT 6.x only.
  20. IE6 is included in USP5.1. The real problem is with non English versions of the browser. Some of them may be lost for ever
  21. KB909520 seems to be still available to download from http://catalog.update.microsoft.com
  22. Many of the removed updates seem to be still available to download from MS Update Catalog! The website is IE-only and the download speed is not very fast but at least it does work! Also the Catalog seems to be the only option to download Win2k updates (not only the removed ones but all updates) for Japanese NEC98. You can't access them from the public M$ site because even if you select JPN (NEC) the site will still link you to the x86 version of the update.
  23. It's because IE is responsible for many system functions. The whole Windows Explorer interface IS actually IE.
  24. Windows NT 4.0 - SP6a Windows 2000 - SP4 Windows XP (x86) - SP3 Windows 2003 Server / XP x64 - SP2 Windows Vista - SP2 Windows 7 - SP1?
  25. I've connected Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 600 GB to the same controller: Now I'm really curious why linear transfer speed of the SSD is so low (133 / 109 MB/s) when this HDD reaches almost 200 MB/s
