  1. You like writing LONG posts, don't you I don't think there's any problem in keeping everything in one topic (this one). There may be a few different issues discussed but they are all interrelated with each other, aren't they? Are you sure that you downloaded the right file? It should be dated like this (the exact time may differ depending on your time zone)? You only need w2ksp51.exe. You should put it in HF and you should also remove all IE CABs from HFCABS. They go in HF and please check the information files: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15391619/Public/Windows2000/UnofficialUpdatesRollup/Stable/Windows2000-UURollup-v10c-x86-ENU.txt https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15391619/Public/Windows2000/UpdateRollup2/Stable/Windows2000-UpdateRollup2-x86-ENU.txt You can remove all updates listed there from your HFSLIP folders. They are already included in the two rollups. You should also (just in case) put "reg.exe" in HFEXPERT\WIN\system32. And please rename the NETFX CABs to NETFX11.cab and NETFX20.cab. HFSLIP may have problems with long filenames. I'm not sure now but I'll try to check it later. There are some VB6 libraries included in UURollup. It's not that perfect yet You still need some other files. Below you can check my HFSLIP folder structure: It may not be 100% perfect so please let me know if there's anything missing! Let's keep it here. I've almost finished a script which automatically adds drivers to driver.cab.
  2. @CharlotteTheHarlot Looks familiar
  3. I can confirm that there are no problems with Windows Installer after installing the kernel here.
  4. What kind of illegal content is included on his website? The ISO links are the official ones from M$.
  5. Thank you for testing the daily version on a real hardware That's the error I was talking about. It's caused by WildBill's srvsvc.dll which I mentioned in #139. The file is installed by UURollup-v10c and then it's still present when you install the new version with BWC kernel. I've fixed this by adding an older (official) version of srvsvc.dll which overwrites the WildBill's file. I've just uploaded a new daily version. Changes: Added srvsvc.dll 5.0.2195.6930 It will overwrite all other versions. Added mshtmled.dll 6.0.2900.6254 for IE6 SP3. This is an experimental change. The file itself comes from the newest IE Cumulative Update for XP. It's installed only when IE6 is present in the system (it's not installed in an IE5 based system). This version can be installed over BWC kernel and it should be also possible to install it over any older version of UURollup.
  6. 1. The link is wrong. It's "Windows\2K\Updates" while it should be "Windows\2K\Updates2". Try it again after adding the "2". 2. Yes Try looking for it here (in case it's not available at the moment then you should wait for a few hours as the files are being uploaded right now ). No but all MS VC++ libraries are included in UURollup (ENU). Which "basic runtime redistributables" do you mean exactly? I've been working on new .NET packages and they are going to be ready in the near future. At the moment if you want to slipstream .NET1.1/2.0 you can just use the OnePiece's addons: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6717 http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8315 They can be slipstreamed from HFAAO folder. Yes if you put "reg.exe" in HFTOOLS. The fix is also automatically turned on when USP5.1 is slipstreamed. Of course there is no problem with manually installing the unofficial updates By the way, if bandwidth is a problem for you then I'd recommend using Update Rollup 2 instead of hundreds of single fixes. It's 50 MB (UR2) vs 200 MB (single files).
  7. Not exactly 1. If you've already installed the system you just need to do what I wrote in #3. You can add the changes to the NTUSER.DAT and then all new user accounts will use the modified registry settings. 2. If you want to add your changes before actually installing the system then you can do it by modifying a file called i386\hivedef.inf. Just add your changes under the [AddReg] section.
  8. I've got the same problem but it's caused by conflicting SATA drivers. Have you (or someone else) changed anything related to them on that computer recently?
  9. After testing I can confirm that installing the new daily version over UURollup-v10c does not work. The system will not boot after doing so. I've tracked down the culprit and managed to fix it. The fix will be included in the next daily. Now the problem is that even though everything seems to work OK in a VM, when I try to install this new version in my real system then it doesn't boot too. It just restarts itself as soon as the blue background is shown before even any messages pop up. I don't know what the reason is but I'm going to try it on a clean installation because the one I'm using now has been modified in very different ways so it's kind of messy and "worn out".
  10. A new daily version of UURollup-v11 is ready. This is the first version where BWC kernel is used. Almost all files from BWC kernel are now used in UURollup (ENU). I've still left the three files (dbgeng.dll, dbghelp.dll and imagehlp.dll) from Windows XP "Whistler" 5.1.2430.1 because I'm not sure about the compatibility of the new versions which BlackWingCat's recently added to his kernel. All catalog files and registry entries related to the official updates superseded by UURollup (ENU) have been removed. They are useless because Windows Update mustn't be used with unofficial updates anyway and SFC doesn't work for the modified files too. Actually I'm going to disable SFC completely in the near future because it can only cause unpredicted problems, ex. restore some of the original system files and therefore break the system completely in the worst scenario. All files coming from the Kel's Runtimes addon have been removed. They are going to be included in USP5.2 separately. All other files have been updated to the newest version available (mainly the ones by BlackWingCat and also several MS VC++ related files). Thanks to the changes mentioned above the size of UURollup (ENU) has decreased by a few MBs and also less bloat is added to the registry. That's it for now. I haven't tested slipstreaming yet, only manual installation. I'd be very glad if someone tested this new version. Remember that it's still very experimental!!! so do not ever try to install it in your real system!!! I recommend testing it in a VM. At the moment you can still find the test versions in the SkyDrive archive. Edit: I'd be especially interested in what happens when you install the new version over UURollup-v10c (without uninstalling the latter).
  11. You can edit the default user profile (ntuser.dat) like this: 1. Load it: reg.exe LOAD HKU\CUSTOM "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\..\Default User\NTUSER.DAT" 2. Open the registry (regedit) and edit the HKU\CUSTOM. 3. Unload it: reg.exe UNLOAD HKU\CUSTOM
  12. A newer version of msftedit.dll than the one included in KB935839-v20o is available in KB970063: Msftedit.dll 5.41.15.1517
  13. You'll probably have to compromise. The newer the board is, the lower the probability that it will support IDE / FDD is. You can always use a PCI(-E) IDE controller (but make sure that's it's a bootable one!). One more thing - Cool'n'Quiet won't work in Win2k. You'll have to use K10stat but it's not a bad thing because it's actually better and very customisable.
  14. Have you "patched" your setupreg.hiv or downloaded the one attached by red2k? That one is only for English systems so you shouldn't use it in other language versions of Windows 2000. You should just patch yours.
  15. @lasitter There should be no problem with using AMD FX in Windows 2000. Even if it's not Advanced Server you can still use multiple cores with a BlackWingCat's patch in any Win2k edition. I'd avoid the old nVIDIA chipsets because they're slow compared to the new AMD ones. Any of the new AMD chipsets will do fine. If you want SATA3 then you should go for an AMD SATA controller because there exist BlackWingCat's drivers for it. AVOID other controllers like ASMedia, etc. because the drivers don't work in Win2k (tested myself). Avoid motherboards with "unknown" LAN controllers (like Atheros, etc.). Any Realtek controller should be fine as Realtek still officially supports Win2k. Same thing with audio controllers. Realtek recommended. USB 3.0 won't work (no matter which chipset it is) There exist unofficial graphic drivers for AMD / nVIDIA / Intel so basically any graphic card should work. I myself am using ASRock A55 Pro3 with AMD Athlon II X4 631. It's an FM1 board so it's not exactly what you're looking for but you can have an idea what kind of newer hardware works with Win2k. On this board the SATA3 controller and USB 3.0 controller don't work because the drivers don't support Win2k. That's why I've just said to avoid the ASMedia SATA3 controller. SATA2 works with the BlackWingCat's drivers.
  16. Please try to use a "normal" password then and see if there's any difference.
  17. Is the password blank?
  18. You didn't say which Windows is that. This should work in 2000/XP/2003: :TASKKILL TASKKILL /F /IM process.exe /T FOR /F %%I IN ('tasklist ^| FINDSTR/I "process.exe"') DO IF DEFINED %%I GOTO :TASKKILL
  19. Is there any hope that Silverlight DRM protected content will work too?
  20. I don't think that XP's setup can help anything in this particular issue Even if you set up all partitions with it and then switch to Win2k the 2K's setup will still be unable to detect any drives / partitions larger than 137.4 GB. In my computer I've got 4 disks: 1) 60 GB SSD -> system + programs + some other files 2) 67 GB RAID (2 x fast HDD) -> important files + Windows 8 partition (20 GB) 3) 500 GB HDD (slow) -> less important files, backup My system partition is 10 GB and thanks to its small size I can make a backup image very easily (using Clonezilla). If something goes wrong then 5 minutes and everything is back to the proper state. Saving the image also takes only 10 minutes. Edit: I've also got an external USB HDD which is used specifically for backup.

  22. @ I think that basilico's problems is not about formatting but rather about the lack of 48-bit LBA support in Win2k To enable it you've got to integrate SP4 and then change the SETUPREG.HIV as described in the topic I linked to. Of course it's true that doing a full format takes time... but how often do you reinstall the system anyway? Also everything depends on how big is your system partition. Mine is just 10 GB so it doesn't take that long to format it.
  23. After thinking more about it I'm considering switching from SkyDrive to Google Drive and actually paying 2.49$ a month for 25 GB of storage. It's not very expensive and has one big advantage - Google Drive application works in Windows 2000 This way it would be possible to store everything in one place. Edit: Another advantage of Google Drive is that you don't need to have an account in order to download large files (as it's the case with SkyDrive).
  24. 1) Integrate SP4. 2)
