  1. Nice one How about Etron... I wish I had Asmedia here.
  2. What kind of errors did you get with UURollup? Have you installed any other unofficial updates (perhaps any BlackWingCat's updates)?
  3. Thanks to you now Windows 2000 offers more than even XP Someone should make similar extensions for XP/2003
  4. Thanks for useful information
  5. I haven't really thought about adding system restore. I want to add VSS because many backup tools use it. Without VSS they always throw errors when trying to copy files which are in use
  6. You may try to install the newest official nVIDIA drivers: http://pl.download.nvidia.com/Windows/301.42/301.42-desktop-winxp-32bit-international-whql.exe Of course UURollup must be installed before doing so and the installation has to be done through Device Manager because the installer itself won't run in Win2k. Something seems to be wrong. On my hardware configuration Win2k performs in Cinebench (very slightly but still) better than Windows 8. Even if there's a difference it shouldn't be that big. You may also want to test the system using CrystalMark.
  7. @Molecule Please just give me 2~3 days to sort everything out At the moment some of the unofficial updates you're asking for are not available to download but I'll fix it ASAP!
  8. A new daily version of UURollup-v11 is ready: Updated files: kernel32.dll 5.0.2195.7189 ntdll.dll 5.0.2195.7098 NTKRNLMP.EXE 5.0.2195.7385 ntkrnlpa.exe 5.0.2195.7385 NTKRPAMP.EXE 5.0.2195.7385 ntoskrnl.exe 5.0.2195.7385 win32k.sys 5.0.2195.7399 All of them come from BWC kernel. By the way, I've tried to transplant VSS (Shadow Copy Service) from Windows XP "Whistler" (different versions) but there's always an error when trying to use it. Even though there are no dependency issues each trial results in error.
  9. Oops... I confused AMD and nVIDIA drivers It's nVIDIA drivers that behave like that. Download 301.42-desktop-winxp-32bit-international-whql.exe, run the installer and unpack it, go to Display.Driver and try to unpack the *.*_ files using "expand -r". The filenames won't be correct after doing so. On the other hand, 7-Zip can extract them correctly. 1. Original files: nv4_disp.dl_ nv4_mini.sy_ nvapi.dl_ nvcompiler.dl_ nvcuda.dl_ nvcuvenc.dl_ nvcuvid.dl_ nvdrsdb.bi_ nvoglnt.dl_ nvuninst.ba_ OpenCL.dl_ 2. After unpacking with 7-Zip: nv4_disp.dll nv4_mini.sys nvapi.dll nvcompiler.dll nvcuda.dll nvcuvenc.dll nvcuvid.dll nvdrsdb nvoglnt.dll nvuninst OpenCL.dll 1. After using "expand -r *.*_" nv4_disp.dl nv4_mini.sy nvapi.dl nvcompiler.dl nvcuda.dl nvcuvenc.dl nvcuvid.dl nvdrsdb.bi nvoglnt.dl nvuninst.ba opencl.dl
  10. I didn't say anything about Update Rollup 2 Update Rollup 2 (UR2) is a rollup of (almost) all official system updates and hotfixes released for Windows 2000. Unofficial Updates Rollup (UURollup) is a rollup of (almost) all UNofficial system updates and hotfixes released for Windows 2000. Update Rollup 2 won't help you here (although of course there's nothing wrong with installing it). UURollup will help because after installing it you will be able to use the newest Flash Player. What error do you get when trying to install the graphics driver?
  11. For screen shots you can use http://imgur.com/ And with either UURollup (ENU) or the BlackWingCat's kernel extension installed you can use any version of Flash Player.
  12. That's true because M$ doesn't like when their files are stored on 3rd party servers. Because of that ALL websites link directly to the M$ servers to download their files. Then if M$ removes the file the URLs become invalid too.
  13. The Catalyst drivers are different! You should have said that you want to unpack them in the very beginning of the topic! I've got no time now to explain more but there are several packed files there, like *.*_ and if you unpack them using "expand -r" they will still unpack to *.*_ !!! After unpacking you need to rename them manually, ex. .dl_ should become .dll, etc..
  14. This was in the first post (+2 attachments):
  15. Could you give the URL to the drivers drivers you're trying to integrate? I mean the exact URL, not the name of it.
  16. Right but I haven't really seen this method mentioned in many places Most people seem to try using cmdlines or other "common" methods. Even if the hive files are mentioned, they usually talk about hivesys/hivesft but not that much about hivedef.
  17. @blackwingcat FreeFileSync doesn't work with kernel v21a It works in a "stock" system. After installing the kernel it doesn't even start. DRWatson error from Event Viewer:
  18. The temperatures after applying KB919521 (btw, it's included in Update Rollup 2) seem pretty normal... If it's a box cooler than you may want to replace it with with a "decent" one. You can find even not very expensive coolers which are far better and (what's important) run much more quietly. I've done it in my computer. Before it sounded more like a vacuum cleaner and now it's almost completely silent If I'm not mistaken, you can use RMClock to manually set the CPU frequency. For AMD CPUs it's K10stat to do the same thing. These tools are especially important when using Win2k because Intel SpeedStep and AMD Cool'n'Quiet don't work in it.
  19. No problem... but please don't do it again There were actually several good points in that post! It's because I've changed the link. That's why the previous one didn't work for you. You should be able to find all unofficial updates in the Dropbox download archive.... but I still haven't finished sorting everything so please let me know if you can't find any of the updates. Just in case something doesn't work please always try to check my website and the Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 topic for news. You may want to try Google with adding "site:http://www.msfn.org/board". It works much better than the built-in search engine. You may also find this small text file useful: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/15391619/Public/Windows2000/Updates/list.txt (it's being updated very often) I wouldn't really say so. Rollups still need to be slipstreamed using HFSLIP. It will be possible to integrate USP5.1 without any 3rd party tools but it's not possible in case of simple updates and update rollups.
  20. No problem I also wasn't 100% sure about this but now I am. I wish I had known it earlier I'll try to use this method to set the folder view to details, custom resolution, Start Menu small icons and some other things. After more testing I'll post a reply here so keep an eye on this topic
  21. I don't think it's available publicly. Only a few of the updates mentioned on the BWC's blog leaked. The IE Cumulative one has been recently replaced by the newly (officially) released CU (KB2722913). The two others are included in Update Rollup 2. Only the one for MDAC 2.8 SP1 (KB983838) still needs to be applied separately.
  22. I should have been more clear. Sorry This is exactly where the entry appears: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics "MinWidth"="-255" HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics "MinWidth"="-255" HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1957994488-507921405-1343024091-500\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics "MinWidth"="-255" The last one being the Administrator account (there are no other accounts in the system). Moreover, it's also present in NTUSER.DAT. After loading it to HKU\CUSTOM (see #3): HKEY_USERS\CUSTOM\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics "MinWidth"="-255" All of this means that all changes added to hivedef.inf become default values for all system accounts created later. For me this is WAY simpler than playing with cmdlines or using other "documented" methods Just add the modifications to hivedef.inf and you're done.
  23. Why have you edited the last post? I've already started writing an answer
  24. This is the list of changes done in the last daily version of UURollup-v11: Updated files: dbgeng.dll 6.2.9200.16384 dbghelp.dll 6.2.9200.16384 imagehlp.dll 5.1.2600.6198 iphlpapi.dll 5.0.2195.7104 kernel32.dll 5.0.2195.7188 mfc40.dll 4.1.0.6151 mfc40u.dll 4.1.0.6151 mfc42.dll 6.6.8065.0 mfc42u.dll 6.6.8065.0 msftedit.dll 5.41.21.2512 msvcrt.dll 7.0.6002.22755 ntdll.dll 5.0.2195.7097 Added files: licdll.dll 5.1.2600.5977 sxs.dll 5.1.2600.5699 taskmgr.exe 5.1.2430.1 wintrust.dll 5.131.2600.6198 Out of these the new Task Manager comes from Windows XP "Whistler" 2430.1. It's almost exactly the same as the default one but there are two differences in it: - the Networking tab: - MEM Usage is shown in GBs: @desertofunknown WOW 1. I don't really want to add any enhancement to the main USP5.2 compilation (as I said earlier, there's no problem to have them offered in separate packages). This shutdown menu is the only one change which I'd really like to have as default. The normal shutdown menu requires at least 2 clicks (3 if you want to change the default option) and I don't really think that anyone will object against a Vista style one. If someone really wants to keep the standard one then I'll offer a separate patch to bring it back after they've told me about it. Of course everything depends on whether it's possible to add such a button to the current explorer. A new Explorer and other enhancement from ReactOS and other sources might be interesting but that would be too deep interference in the system to make it default. Such components could be available separately for everyone willing to experiment. In one word, the only change to add to the "standard" setup which I'm personally interested in is the shutdown menu 2. It's interesting what you're writing about the performance improvement. As you know, I've been doing just the dirty work. I don't know anything about programming other than simple batch scripting so I can't say anything about how BlackWingCat and WildBill modify the system files. I think that some benchmarks would have to be run in order to prove whether there are real differences between the standard Win2k setup and the one with unofficial kernel. 3. Automatic updates is something I've already thought about for some time but this is something to be done for USP5.1. Providing automatic updates for the currently released packages would be too much hassle as there are too many of them and too many other things need to be done now so no time to focus on it at the moment. 4. Uxtheme.dll is included in BWC kernel (so in the new daily versions of UURollup too). The problem with Firefox installer is that it checks the OS version and refuses to install on anything lower than XP SP2. You can read more about it here. Thank you once again for such an extensive testing
  25. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms683146%28v=vs.85%29.aspx Normally the API is present in Windows 2003 Server and newer only.
