  1. @Hackeronte I've finally managed to compare the two kernel32.dll files (ITA & ENU) and you're 100% right that there are more strings in the ENU version than in the other one. Of course in such a situation you only need to copy the ones which are present in the ITA file and leave the others alone. There's a problem though. I don't think that Resource Hacker (Reshacker) is a proper tool to do this job. Some of the strings seem to contain language specific letters / characters and Reshacker does not support Unicode which means that some of them may be broken after using a simple copy & paste method. I'm sure that PE Explorer supports Unicode and I've also heard that Anolis Resourcer is a very good program. I'll try to check those tools more thoroughly when I've got some free time. @ I'd like to check the problem myself but I know nothing about the game concerned. Is it free and downloadable somewhere? It would be good if I just installed it on my system and checked myself. Does the game work in a stock system (with no unofficial packages installed)?
  2. What's your system state at the moment? Is it fully updated? If you don't care about the language then you can forcibly install English packages in it. Of course you should remember that some (most?) parts of it will change into English after doing so. Download Unofficial SP 5.1 from here, unpack it, go to i386\update, open update.inf in any text editor and change: LanguageType = %LangTypeValue% to LanguageType = 0x00 Then find the [ProductCatalogsToInstall] section and remove (disable by adding ";" at the beginning) all catalog files listed there. After that save the changes and run update.exe in order to install the service pack. Download Update Rollup 2 (ENU) and install it using the same method. Download the latest weekly version of UURollup from here and also install it using the same method. Try to install Spotify again. Edit: I can confirm that Spotify seems to install fine. In order to use the official installer you need to download the full version and then use Application Compatibility Launcher to start it in XP compatiblity mode.
  3. There are many "new" patches but none for Spanish edition of Windows 2000 and I guess that your system is ESN, isn't it? What kind of error do you see when trying to run the installer?
  4. @blackwingcat Hey, have you perhaps tried to do anything with Silverlight and other East Asian locales? I'd really like to have Silverlight work with Korean locale @int0x13 There are no unofficial updates for a French version of Win2k so you can either use KDW to change file dependencies or forcibly install the English version of the unofficial kernel / UURollup. Some parts of your system will change into English so take this into account

  6. Maybe your disk is working in PIO mode?. I'd just try find a proper AHCI driver and just use it instead of switching to IDE mode.
  7. This is very bad news. It would be really nice to just be able to copy and paste all of those strings from ITA to ENU Replacing them one by one is a pain and very problematic when a new version of the file has been released and you've got to start everything from the beginning... Please wait for a moment until I check the last version of BWC kernel (I'll try to do it until tomorrow). If there's no difference then yes, kernel32 5.0.2195.7187 will be probably included in the stable version of UURollup-v11. The other one in the NT6 folder may still change so please don't work on it yet
  8. @Hackeronte It would be great if you could upload the Italian file to my SkyDrive here. I've been kind of busy recently and doing so should help save some time
  9. I'm sorry but I'll probably be able to investigate into this issue not earlier than sometime next week. I hope you can forgive me I've just been very busy recently
  10. I've also just switched from 000webhost to Zymic and can't recommend the former any more. Zymic (*.zxq.net) was used by bristols when he was responsible for the Win2K Updates List and Mim0 uses it too for his updates list for WinXP. There's a difference though, which is that all of those are just simple websites while here we're talking about a discussion forum which is probably more complicated, although I don't really know whether it matters or not. And if you want a simple domain name, then http://www.dot.tk is free
  11. This topic has been dead for a while... Please check the Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 topic for the most fresh information and all other news. All of the current packages are available to download from my website (test versions can be found in the Archive).
  12. In the end I think that it is likely a bug in Windows 2000 and its font smoothing. I've done a test in XP and no such issues occured there. What I found interesting is that XP seems to render fonts differently from Win2k, even when ClearType is disabled and only the standard font smoothing is used.
  13. I'm sure that they test on XP. I'd rather think that this particular problem hasn't been noticed simply because very few people use shortcuts to websites.
  14. There is a RAID option on that mainboard which allows to use just a single disk. I don't remember its name unfortunately but you should experiment with all of the available ones (there aren't many of them anyway). Just make sure that all the data is backed up because the disk will have to be repartitioned and reformatted after changing those RAID settings.
  15. The issue is not fixed yet because Silverlight still crashes in case of Korean & Chinese locale I'm still planning to include the fixed files in the new daily sometime this weekend. GetThreadPreferredUILanguages is also available in blackwingcat's kernel32.dll. He added those NT6 functions some time ago.
  16. In the end I'm using SRWare Iron now instead of Google Chrome The reason is trivial - I had issues with the built-in Flash Player (video was OK but audio was kind of choppy). Those problems are non-existant in Iron which uses the normal external Flash Player.
  17. http://windows2000.tk is working again
  18. Just to make things clear - you don't need to use the blackwingcat's version of the Flash installer if you've got UURollup or his kernel installed. It's only when you don't use any unofficial kernel that you should use this installer. You can use "normal" official Flash installers on your system (since you're using UURollup-v10(x)). I've installed the newest version of Shockwave but I can't really remember when was the last time it was actually required anywhere.
  19. I like the Wayback Machine because you're sure that the file comes from the original website and hasn't been modified in any way
  20. You can get SP6a-128 through the Wayback Machine using the original M$ URL: http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://download.microsoft.com/download/winntsp/SP/6.0a-128/NT4/EN-US/sp6i386.exe The last link from 2006 works.
  21. I've done a standard Google search I'd like to hear some opinions from people who actually use such applications, especially concerning the fact that I'm also going to pay for some services like phone calls.
  22. Does anyone know any good Skype alternative? I've used Skype for years but after it was sold to M$ everything has been getting worse and worse. The Windows client is not that bad (although bloated) but the Android client is just horrible. Previous versions, although buggy, were usable but the current one is a complete junk: Video doesn't work correctly (it seems to be working on my Android device but the other person can see only a black screen in the desktop version). Portrait mode doesn't work any more it was very useful for typing in the chat window. The volume control mode has changed. I don't know the proper names for this but before you could adjust the volume as in any other music application so you were able to make it very low or just turn it off by pressing the volume down button. Now it uses the "phone mode" which means that you can't turn it off by reducing the volume level and, what's much more important, you can't make it low enough! Even on the lowest settings it's still way too loud for me. What's even more, M$ blocked older versions of Skype for Android from working. In other words, you can no longer log in in them and you're forced to upgrade to the newest one (fortunately in Windows you can still use the last unbloated version, i.e. v4.2). Anyway, I'm looking for an alternative which would work in Windows and Android. Apart from standard voice / video chatting I'd also like to be able to make (paid) phone calls as you can do in Skype. Is there any software which could easily replace Skype in this kind of usage?
  23. I'm going to change my hosting permanently to http://www.zymic.com (zxq.net). Up to know I've been using http://www.000webhost.com but what's going to at the moment is a joke It's been like that for 3 days... I'm working on redirecting from http://www.windows2000.tk to http://tomasz86.zxq.net. At the moment the website is accessible on the latter address.
  24. I can confirm that Silverlight does work now when system locale is set to English or Polish... but it still crashes if I set it to Korean or Chinese. It's the same error as before
  25. Hmm, it's hard to say what exactly happened and where the LdrLoadLock error came from Basically speaking, this is how the three release channels work: Stable channel: only files proved stable included no experimental files or settings replaces all previous stable and weekly (but not daily!) releases possible to install over all previous stable and weekly releases (but only weekly releases of the same version ex. all previous weeklies of UURollup-v11, etc.) slipstreaming supported [*] Daily channel: released very often (not not more often than once per day ) all newest files and changes included therefore very experimental used mostly for testing purposes does not replace any previous releases therefore it's required to uninstall the previous daily before installing a new one slipstreaming not supported [*] Weekly channel: released not more often than once per week based on daily releases but only stable changes are included replaces all previous weekly releases of the same version possible to install over previous weekly releases of the same version does not not replace previous daily or stable releases slipstreaming supported I understand that this may be confusing but I find this kind of development very useful and practical for testing because once a stable version is released I'm sure that's it's really stable.
