Thanks, LostInSpace2012, for that Mitch Miller song. To me, he is much, much more psychedelic than Jimi Hendrix. From 1972, Johnny Nash singing a song written by the late, great reggae king, Bob Marley, "Stir It Up".

Sad Story From Canada ... The Way Things Are Today
larryb123456 replied to Monroe's topic in General Discussion
@vinifera: Please don't be embarrassed about forgetting today what you wrote yesterday. For we all suffer from occasional memory lapses. Example: One of my favorite quotes -- (and this is an *exact quote*) -- by Socrates (FYI, 470/469 BC - 399BC, a Greek philosopher): "Hey dudes, I be so effin smart, that not even I, the great, infallible Socrates, can remember all of them stuffs that I be writin'." a very recent picture of Socrates -
Glad you like Del Shannon, LostInSpace2012. I think he's one of the under-rated early rock n' rollers. In my post about Boz Scagg's "Lowdown" song, I should have defined what "Jones" means, for the readers who might not know. Jones = a state in which one experiences strong desire or attraction As used here, it isn't a person's last name.

Yes, vinifera, you wrote it in your last post at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171650-sad-story-from-canada-the-way-things-are-today/?p=1076332 -
Great one, LostInSpace2012 I love Boz Scaggs My favorite, and probably his best-known song, "Lowdown", from a fairly recent live performance A great lyric from the song: You gotta have a Jones for this a Jones for that Livin' with the Joneses just ain't where it's at So true!!! Right on, Boz Scaggs!!!

My favorite song, "Hats Off To Me Larry", by Del Shannon, with lyrics onscreen. The first frame of the video says, "Once I had a pretty girl her name it doesn't matter" See, I always thought her name, "it doesn't matter", was too silly. (She's the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matter.) That's why I broke up with her after I stole her away from Del Shannon. Larry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On6DJyM9DUE

Thanks, xper: I just received your email from MSFN, which said "IP.Board Email Test message. If you received this, it works." So this will be a test as to whether or not I'll receive a notification when someone makes the next post in this thread. Larry -

@vinifera: In your post at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171650-sad-story-from-canada-the-way-things-are-today/?p=1076159 you ask a very deep, fundamental question: why should I care about Canada ? Well, having read your very intelligent, well-thought-out, compassionate posts on this thread, I'll try to give you my very, very short answer to your query. I'm sure my answer won't measure up to the level of intelligence that you have shown in your posts, but all I'm able to do is attempt to be briefly coherent. Well, I, for one, care about Canada, and also the country -- (and planet, if you don't happen to be from Earth) -- that you're from, because *everything* is made by the spirit of universal consciousness, and *everything* is a treasure to be revered: the humans, the animals, the plants, the mountains, the oceans, etc., etc., etc. (And I'm extremely upset, along with many, many others, about the way that "mankind" is destroying the Earth, out of ignorance, insensitivity to fellow humans, greed, and other profit-and-power-driven motives.) You're welcome, bphlpt. You say that you were in the 80th grade when the song came out. WOW, you really are an Old Man, aren't you? Just like your signature says. Larry

I'm no longer receiving notifications for *anything* -- topics I follow or comment to, and PMs. In my settings, I have all the appropriate boxes checked (with notification frequency "Immediate"): auto follow topics I reply to notify me when I receive a new personal conversation I opted for email notification, and my "current email address" is correct. In a nutshell, everything is exactly the same as it was before, when I *was* receiving all the notifications. The problem started, mysteriously, a couple of days ago. I'm receiving *all* the appropriate notifications from *all* the other forums I belong to. I hope this problem can be solved, because it is a hassle to go back and check topics I'm interested in, to see if there are any new posts. Any ideas as to how I can correct this problem? Thanks, Larry

I'm sorry, LostInSpace2012, et al, but I just don't understand what the reasons for concern are. As everyone knows, *all* of Microsoft's products are infallible, and this latest so-called "problem" will turn out to be a blessing in disguise for all mankind, I'm sure. Larry -

@Flasche: I'm so glad, Flasche, that I stopped by to see the latest posts on this thread, because...... I got a chance to see your amazingly emotionally-sensitive, intelligent, investigative, analytical post at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171650-sad-story-from-canada-the-way-things-are-today/?p=1076158 This puts your post at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171650-sad-story-from-canada-the-way-things-are-today/?p=1076040 in an entirely different light for me a post that I responded to -- with an incomplete understanding -- at http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/171650-sad-story-from-canada-the-way-things-are-today/?p=1076084 I went back and re-read your profile (I had read it a couple of times before) and I'm simply amazed that you have such maturity for a 16-year old. Please continue to be a "Seeker of Truth" as you grow older, and, with your abilities, you will become a world leader, in whatever area you choose, if you want to be, of course. Larry -

HaHa, jaclaz -- funny. I'm sorry for ranting, submix8c. You are so correct, In frustration, I was ranting out of my own IDIOCY, at not being able to figure out how to do the things I wanted to do with my new OS. I know absolutely nothing about computers. I apologize. And I really, really, truly, truly apologize for calling the Windows 7 developers IDIOTS. But today is a much brighter day, because my new Windows 7 has been tweaked COMPLETELY to totally act like my former XP, in *all* aspects -- thanks to the mysterious, magical mind and nimble fingers of my son, who is a (software engineer)/(.net developer). It hardly took him any time at all for the complete transformation. I really appreciate your taking time to provide the information in your last post, submix8c -- very much. I D I O T L A R R Y

Yes, LostInSpace2012, that's what a bunch of people suggested when I Googled it. IMO that SHOULDN'T BE NECESSARY and I don't want some nefarious piece of crap on my computer. I can manage my own downloads by putting them in the folder I want -- by cutting them from the desktop -- where I can plainly see THE WHOLE BUNCH -- if the idiots WINDOWS 7 GEEKS would have left WELL ENOUGH ALONE from moving on from 98 and XP. IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS IDIOTS If you sense that I'm mad, then you would be very perceptive, IMO.

WOW, LostInSpace2012, that signature is SUPER-DUPER-FANTASTIC. It's well-laid out, intelligent, and super-funny. There is no way I can make anything better in a million years. The only thing I noticed is that the black border -- if you used a border -- doesn't go on top of the fruit on the lower right of the image -- and also on the top of Darth Vader's helmet. But maybe you wanted it that way (?). If not, I can easily put the border on top for you in Photoshop and post it here. Just let me know. Thanks for congratulating me on getting a bunch of headaches new computer with the GEEK de-evolution of Windows 7. It be suckin' big time, IMO. Larry -
Thanks, jaclaz -- I have x86 then. And, submix8c, I did a complete fresh install of 7 on a new hard drive. Thanks for your concern/input. Another geek rant: It seems that with 7, I can't specify where I want my my internet download files to go. With 98 and XP, it was easy to make them go to the desktop, which is my preferred location. I checked online for how to do it with 7, and EVERYONE -- at least in all the Google links I went to -- did not have a clue. Does anyone here know how? And now, I'm not getting notifications of the topics that I check "follow" on MSFN. It's always something. I think I'd be better off taking a sledge hammer to my computer, and just play Mumblety-peg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumblety-peg) in my spare time. Larry

larryb123456 replied to larryb123456's topic in Graphics and Designing Art
@LostInSpace2012: Well, I guess I can make you a new signature, but it's going to take quite some time, I expect. In addition to what I describe in the next paragraph, I've really got a lot of other stuff going on now. I just got a new computer with Windows 7, and my old NVIDEA graphics card wouldn't fit in the new computer. With the old card, I could choose a screen resolution of 848x480 or 1280x720. These were the only 2 resolutions that made a square created in Photoshop actually look like a square instead of a rectangle. I used the lower resolution. With the new NVIDEA card, only 1280x720 is offered, and everything looks teeny-tiny now. I really can't see details clearly, at all, as I could before. It looks like userbars are now a lost cause, at this point, I guess. Zooming up the image in Photoshop to make it bigger, just makes it look blurry. I've lost the ultra-fine control. NVIDEA geeks, 1, Larry, 0. Please post your request in THIS THREAD, because that's what it's for. It gets confusing, for me, jumping back and forth. When I get it done, then you can always make a post on your signature thread, and reference each of the posts involved in the creation here on this thread -- that is, if you want to, of course. And please provide COMPLETE details as to what you want -- background image, bottle, other images, pixel size of the signature, please go to dafont.com and pick out 2 or 3 True Type fonts you like (and tell me), and I can download them from there, etc., etc -- the whole kit and ka-boodle -- so that I can basically paste everything in to make your signature. That way, it'll be simpler for me, and you'll be sure to get it exactly as you want it. As of yet, I haven't tried making ANY graphics with my new OS and graphics card, but I think larger images, like the 380x100px MSFN maximum signature size shouldn't be too much of a problem. I hope. WOW, jaclaz, you are always right on target with your picture links!!! That is a picture of the individual who finished in 11 th place in the Special OlympicsTM 50-yard dash, mentioned in my last post. He got drunk, passed out for 3 hours, and then got up and crossed the finish line. I forgot to mention in my last post that it took me 5 hours to finish the 50-yarder, and then I collapsed as soon as I crossed the finish line from the strenuous exertion. I was told in the hospital that I suffered brain damage from all that anaerobic activity. Now you know the reason why my posts are so brilliant stupid. Larry
