One thing I like is it is only a 10.8MB MSI Installer (extracted/installed its about 21.3MB) so its much leaner than VMWare Workstation v5.5 (90MB MSI), which includes some large iso's. I just tested it on my new X2 3800 (AM2) with XP Pro SP2 and the performance was excellent, definetly better than VMWare with my last cpu (Venice 3000). However I have not tested VMWare yet with my new processor so the results may be better or same. [edit] if you install the "Guest Additions" (think VMware tools) the performance is almost native! Still gotta test vmware with new cpu to compare, but this is awesome Some observations: cannot drag and drop files between host and guest with the additions installed.

a GT is more powerful than a GS. GT for the price of a GS? Probably not, more likely an overpriced GS.

Looks nice BTW what VM's right now take advantage of AMD Virtualization Technology a.k.a AMD-V or Pacifica? [edit] nvm I think I found the answer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtualizatio...re_utilizing_VT

nVidia 8300GS and more released in March
DigeratiPrime replied to puntoMX's topic in Hardware Hangout
Well I was looking at it because I am in the US and as long as I follow the instructions they discount by the exact price you paid for the card. However I know that the products that are sold directly on a company site are usually a rip-off and its cheaper to go through a reseller such as NewEgg. It might make more sense to just buy a card and then eBay it when you want to upgrade. -

nVidia 8300GS and more released in March
DigeratiPrime replied to puntoMX's topic in Hardware Hangout
I cant wait, I need a new card asap. But those look like very good cards and prices I am still using my Radeon 9800 Pro, and considering a 7900 GS. But it looks like the 8600 GT/Ultra would be worth the wait. Any more info about these cards? [edit] I notice in that picture no external power connector and the card length is short. Hope its real. -
GT is always more powerful than GS. Recording video has nothing to do with the video card unless you are thinking of something like VIVO. More Video Memory only helps from what I understand at increasing resolutions / texture sizes.

EEuhmm, comparing a 7900GS to a x1650pro? What the... the x1650pro performs even weaker then the 7600GT . Any way, I would borrow 50 buck from some one to get something you can use for 2 years or so (7900), not a card that will be outdated in les then 1 year (7600)... up to you BombaTwist . whoops I meant x1950Pro sorry
-
But we really won't need a dx10 card if you are just a casual gamer, right? even vista works witha dx9 card well. I'm planning on getting a 7600GT or x1650xt myself. I am just saying I would like a card with "modest" performance like a 7900GS/x1650 Pro and would pay a small premium if it supported DirectX 10. Also although the 7600GT would meet my needs for now, I will go for a more powerful card because my motherboard doesnt support sli/crossfire.

havent tried it yet http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=122629 -
How long before we see "consumer" or "affordable" models of DX10 cards? I am talking less than $200. Performance-wise I'd be happy with the 7900GS.

For component removal I suggest you read the descriptions and just dont check anything that is red. However understand that just because its not red, doesnt mean things could break.

Does the disc skip in other players? If yes, clean the disc or get a another one. What software are you using to watch dvds? 300MB of ram implies an older machine, what CPU does it have?
-
thats why I turn off the page file (virtual memory) and use my excess ram. no more slow start menu or trim on minimize etc. I have seen this cause a program to crash though, CIV4 after an hour, with Photoshop, Firefox, etc running on 1GB

Fire Fox (Version - Extensions - Themes - Plugins)
DigeratiPrime replied to MGadAllah's topic in Networks and the Internet
Actually I use Foxit most of the time, I just used Acrobat for example purposes. But lets stay on topic -
one thing I've noticed in nlite for a while is "extra" components appear after removing some the first time. Most obvious with Keyboards & Languages. For example even though I checked the box to remove all for both, if I reopen nlite and do component removal again I can continue to remove these new components: I also notice in the section from LAST SESSION.INI I copied above that some languages are commented out even though I checked the whole section.

Fire Fox (Version - Extensions - Themes - Plugins)
DigeratiPrime replied to MGadAllah's topic in Networks and the Internet
I prefer DownloadHelper over VideoDownloader. http://www.downloadhelper.net/ https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3006/ btw here is a tweak I like: Also I just let Firefox use the Acrobat Reader plugin, but I know a way to have it open externally without an extension. Tools -> Options -> Content -> FileType -> Manage -> *double-click* on PDF -
I temporarily fixed it by telling nLite to use Classic setup
