  1. You could attach an image to the post I guess or link to an image you upload to some free image sharing website.
  2. Seems like a very unbloated Windows ME. From what I understand it should use the Windows 95 shell (whose files don't appear in the list), and hence be a proper Windows with a desktop and the explorer browser. I guess you wouldn't be able to run many Windows apps on it unless adding back a certain number of non-absolutely essential dlls that many programs require to run. And FWIW it has been built as a start with 98 Lite Enterprise which is a commercial software (and not abandonware as stated).
  3. Safe Mode involves booting with a minimal set of drivers, I am not sure disabling everything in MSConfig is as bare as booting in safe mode. What's the error message anyway?
  4. It's in the registry but use a tweaking utility such as X-Setup to remove it. http://www.x-setup.net/
  5. I use snapsaver as an always on background task, it saves automatically screenshots as image files in a preselected folder. Hoversnap is similar.
  6. Regseeker is a good one but you need to add this line: 2|SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\VarLDID to the exclude.ini file otherwise it'll break your Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Windows Setup applet.
  7. If you want true DOS with Win ME, have a look at those: http://www.mdgx.com/dos.htm#ME

  9. BrowseLC is called by BrowseUI and contains all the localized resources, menus, dialogs and strings, needed by BROWSEUI. BROWSEUI is an ActiveX/COM "plugin" and explorer.exe finds and loads it through the registry as it finds and loads other similar plugins such as shell extensions.
  10. Opera 11.10 issues: I don't like the new speed dial layout either and accordingly the new skins still have the old layout. Try to put the attached ini file in your Opera 11.10 folder, this should restore all the stuff now by default in windir appdata to Opera subfolders. The execute program commands won't work anymore unfortunately but the open with command still does and I have got it working on page background and links. Adding programs to it involve creating/editing registry keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\StartMenuInternet. HTH Btw, do you like the new improvements to the skins? operaprefs_default.ini
  11. Do you mind testing those skins CharlesF? They are new skins I made a little while ago and didn't post yet and they don't seem to be affected by the issue you report here. http://www.mediafire.com/?bici4f1kymg9s7x
  12. There is one rather long thread about that issue somewhere, perhaps you can find it if you look hard. From what I can recall there was a shell32.dll patch posted to address this temporary total resource (can't recall if it's user or gdi) depletion issue which freezes explorer (probably you can find this patch on Mdgx's site as well) but I didn't find it satisfactory after testing it (can't exactly remember why, some unwanted side effect I think). Using IE 5.5 files is not a solution AFAIK since the problem also occurs on system using IE 5.5, I regard this "fix" as an "urban myth". Aside from that using an alternate copy/move utility is a workaround or you can just use ctrl-alt-del when it occurs to kill the explorer process which will restart automatically immediately. Also, avoiding to copy/move from/to open folders when copying/moving large amounts of small files will make this freeze unlikely to happen.
  13. It's got an CreateHardLinkW missing function in kernel32.dll which I don't think KernelEx adresses. If you want to create custom context menu entries on win 98 look into: Open Expert Fast Explorer 2007 Open++ (Require KernelEx) Or edit the registry if you don't need/want to put items in submenus.
  14. As for a blu-ray player running under Windows 98, for lack of the blu-ray plugin for the Nero Media Player 7, I think the choice is very limited, Zoom Player as far as I can see, not sure there is anything else.
  15. I think those help files are mostly good as releases notes for subsequent versions don't show many changes, mostly it's vista support and bugfixes. http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_burning_rom/changelog/1493/ http://www.nero.com/enu/support-nero7-release-notes.html
  16. You're not too gifted for googling, are you? http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero7-helpfiles.html http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero7-manuals.html
  17. There is an IFSMGR.VXD issue and hotfix as well in case it's relevant. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/273017/EN-US
  18. Perhaps checking "Disable scandisk after bad shutdown" in the advanced options of msconfig will do as well and is certainly safer than hexing the FAT.

  20. What about Paragon ExtBrowser or R-Linux?
  21. I haven't tested them in any depth so it's a bit difficult to say... Hopefully it's a handy little list anyway... B)
  22. I did download tons of free backup/synchronization tools a couple of months ago. All those seem to work under Win98/ME (perhaps some require KernelEx) so if you are bored you may want to have a look at them: Lazy Mirror: http://www.xs4all.nl/~wstudios/LazyMirror/index.html PathSync: http://www.cockos.com/pathsync/ ICEMirror: http://www.ice-graphics.com/ICEMirror/IndexE.html Synkron: http://synkron.sourceforge.net/ ViceVersa Free: http://www.tgrmn.com/free/ myEasySync: http://www.mybytes.de/easysync.html Zback: http://titan.fsb.hr/~dzorc/zback.html SyncBack Freeware: http://www.2brightsparks.com/freeware/ TreeComp: http://www.xs4all.nl/~lploeger/TreeComp.htm Cobian Backup: http://www.educ.umu.se/~cobian/cobianbackup.htm DFIncBackup Home: http://www.dfincbackup.net/freeware.htm AceBackup: http://www.acebackup.com/ Backup4all (last freeware version): http://www.321download.com/LastFreeware/page4.html CopyTo Synchronizer Free: http://download.cnet.com/CopyTo-Synchronizer-Free/3000-18511_4-10007886.html EZBack-it-up: http://www.rdcomp.net/ezback-it-up Freebyte Backup: http://www.freebyte.com/fbbackup/ FSync: http://www.vicobiscotti.it/fsync.htm MiniFolderBackup: http://www.northbright.com/minifolderbackup/ ozSync: http://nebula1979.fortunecity.it/ Replicator: http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp Safe Backup: http://www.allmalta.com/software/ SyncEXP: http://syncexp.com/ Comparator 2.2: http://www.brothersoft.com/comparator-4687.html
  23. No issues with latest flash player (only briefly tested on youtube) and Opera 10.63 (USB version) here (using latest 11.10 Barracuda release as my default browser) .
  24. There are no Windows 98/ME drivers for ATI Radeons above the X850.
