Windows 98/ME skin for Opera 10.50/60/70 and 11
loblo replied to loblo's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Good to hear since I am not using 10.63. I use 10.70 build 9050 and they've changed something in the layout of speed dial which makes that my skin is not displaying enough spaces between elements. I have been too busy/lazy (pick the right one) to look into it until now but I'll do eventually. -
I find my system is freezing if I try to copy a large image to the clipboard, and by large I mean only about 30MB, and this despite the fact I have 1GB or more of free physical RAM when I do so. Photoshop 7 will not allow such an image to be copied to the system clipboard at all, preventing such a freeze. I think the actual limit is actually something like 25.6 MB rather than 256MB. On Windows ME not 98 btw.

Hi Tihiy, I found a bug in RP9 ( ), hopefully you can fix it ( ). I am getting a systematic crash on my Windows ME/IE6 system with the context menu plugin of Akelpad when RP9 is installed. To reproduce, grab the Akelpad application and plugin pack, unpack the plugs in the plugin directory and enable the ContextMenu:Main in the plugins options and restart the app. You'll now have two new items on the menu bar, favorites and plugins, as well as an extended context menu in the main window. The two new menu items can be clicked on and displayed but as soon as I move the mouse over to try to select something the application crashes and same goes with the context menu in the main window if there is a file opened. PS: Latest RP9 and KernelEx removed for doing the testing as to make sure it has nothing to do with it.

Certainly looks like this is what is hapenning. Btw, the non IE versions of Flash 10.1.85.3 and 10.2.161.23 Beta 2 both install and seem to run fine here.

You can find reg.exe here (you may need to use an ftp browser if your web browser does not want to connect): ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/TechNet/samples/PS/Win98/Reskit/REGISTRY Syntax and examples in WIN98RK.CHM at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Services/TechNet/samples/PS/Win98/Reskit/HELP btw.

Windows 98/ME skin for Opera 10.50/60/70 and 11
loblo replied to loblo's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Cool. B) -
Both should be OK and theoretically SP1 should be better because of bugfixes and the like but sometimes newest files break stuff in some software that was written when the older ones were current but that's quite rare.
-
It would nicely solve all the endless issues you report with the old versions of flash and shockwave you are forced to use without it I guess. B)

Can you clarify what you mean by that regarding Windows 98? I am not quite sure what he means by that but I take it that your question shows you're still afraid to install KernelEx.
-
Well, there isn't a program like that for any platform. If you believe that REVO can actually do what it claims, eg, cleaning up leftovers of uninstalled programs whose installation has not been monitored, you're just dreaming... Of course it will certainly cover this if you run the program before making the second snapshot in case it doesn't create all its registry keys during install.

This does not seem to work anymore with build 9053.

Better Softwares for specific situations in Windows 98
loblo replied to pichorra's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Sorry about Polyedit, I didn't realize that, still a nice little freeware though. TextMaker Viewer 2010 freeware can read but not edit docx without the office 2007 converter pack but it requires KernelEx. It seems it is also capable of printing and exporting to pdf. http://www.officeviewers.com/ -

PolyEdit Lite (and full I guess) for docx: http://www.polyedit.com/free.html -
That shouldn't be too difficult to do by hand after eventually a bit of monitoring of what the program does when you run it with a task manager and sysinternals registry monitor and file monitor. And if it's the "remove leftovers of already uninstalled programs you are after" I am not sure this can work well at all...
-
I've noticed other software like 'Zsoft Uninstaller' that does this, but the overall question remains. Is there a program to remove registry/file leftovers from an installed program in Win9x? What exactly are you after? Explain the scenario please.

With OUniAnsi.dll from 10.62, everything is fine. I had another version of it, probably a bit older.
-
Thanks for the tip about OUniAnsi.dll from 10.62. I tried to use this file from my install of Opera 10.70 3048 which works fine and 9050 crashed systematically on launch unless I did put opera.dll in 2k compat mode but then cosmetic bugs and crashes on the open/save dialog as I wrote here: With the one from 10.62, everything is fine it seems.
-
I can run the current 10.70 build 9050. I thought I'd give it a try and bingo! There are two ways to run it. Using the old OUniAnsi.dll which is not bundled anymore and putting opera.dll in Win2k compat mode or putting opera.exe in Win2k compat mode. There are a few relatively minor cosmetic issues not present with build 3488 and none of the two above ways of running the app seems to make a difference about them. Other than that it seems to run fast and stable. Unsure if it's because opera fixed the Win2k compatibility issues previous builds were suffering from or because of KernelEx RC4 or both but anyway the latest devellopement build runs again with no major issues that I can see so far. (I have made this post with it btw) Edit: Unfortunately it systematically crashes on trying to save files and no KernelEx setting I can find that fixes that.
-
It's not a program, just a bunch of dlls which you'll see using a process viewer by looking at the dlls used by programs on your rig and you've got now an additional property sheet tab for each 32bit executable files (exe, dll, ocx, etc..) where you can set up individual preferences as to how each of those files is handled by KernelEx.
-
Well use the "japanese" version if you can't cope with this crash and live with the very minor cosmetic issue of the zoom box no?
-
Very stable and no obvious bug I can see. I can't say if it's better than 10.62 since I haven't been running 10.62 at all.
