  1. If this post has already been answered, my apologies, but I have recently reverted back to RunOnceEx as my method of installation for my programs. All of my programs install smoothly, but I have more than what can be seen on a 1024 x 768 screen, thus, I would like to separate some of the applications just so it looks better. Does anyone know how to create a second window to appear after the applications in the first window are completed?
  2. there are two different types of pst's: one specifically for 2003+, and one compatible with 97-2002; i'm assuming that your pst is for the former.
  3. the latest version of Adobe Reader is 7.0.2 I believe...try installing that with all browsers closed
  4. After some careful thought and consideration, I may have to agree that I haven't been able to disable my wireless card as of late either. At first I thought it was due to my disabling services, but with this build not only have i not disabled any, i haven't removed any that aren't safe to remove.
  5. i would also like to know the answer to this question
  6. To Whom Is Able To Help: I have recently been made aware of the powers that rundll32.exe possesses. After searching the internet, I have found useful shortcuts that point directly to specific tabs in control panel applets and other tools like the device manager or to lock your workstation. However, the shortcut I desire is a little different. What I am attempting to do is create a shortcut that will point, not to network connections (already found that one), but to the properties of a wireless connection. From there, the specific tab can be selected using ,,# from the command-line. If anyone out there can help, feel free. Just in case anyone is confused, the properties window of a wireless connection has three tabs (general, wireless networks, advanced). Thanks in advance.
  7. this program is impressive...allowing on the fly changes and even a simulation of the final product is really handy. If this helps, i'll note that all of the text on the billboard showed up in english correctly except for "Installation will complete in 39 minutes". Instead, it said: Installation abgeschlossen in ungefahr 33 minuten which i'm guessing to be german or something along those lines. Hope this helps, keep it up.
  8. if you go to the command prompt and type "systeminfo", it should list the date and time xp was installed, the hotfixes, and other various pieces of information, like installed memory and windows directory
  9. where did you get IE7?
  10. I don't know if this will help but, I have an IBM Thinkpad R31. However, I upgraded the hard drive to 60 GB (double the original capacity) @ 5400 RPM, and also added 512 MB SDRAM (for a total of 640 MB). At the moment, I have an nlited version of XP installed, but after recent tweaking, has realized that it is the service configurations that have a lot to do with system and boot performance. At the moment, the only services set on automatic are: DCOM Server Process Launcer DCHP Client Event Log Machine Debug Manager (Visual Studio .NET 2003) Plug and Play Print Spooler Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Symantec Antivirus Definition Watcher (Symantec Antivirus Corp. 10) Task Scheduler (only for BootVis) Themes Windows Audio Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Wizard Windows Management Instrumentation Workstation The rest are either manual or disabled. My boot time is approximately 27 seconds, after running bootvis and defragmenting my hard drive. In all honesty, the only reason that I use nLite (besides the completely admirable ability to remove components completely and for free and because I can) is to reduce the source so that I can automatically install other programs and drivers like Adobe Photoshop and MSN Search Toolbar. If an R31 was able to read DVDS, I would probably leave the source alone and just tinker with the services. But then again, it is cool to not have to disable things, but can remove them.
  11. why not simply create an administrative point using the /A switch? that seems to be a bit easier and it can install silently using /qb...however, can it use mozilla=1 and iexplore=1?
  12. I was wondering, since there are so many wonderful geniuses out there, if anyone knew how to possibly extract the contents of the java 1.4.2_06 SDK and repackage them into some self-extracting 7zip setup program, similar to RyanVM's Adobe Reader 7 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 packages. Thanks for your time. P.S. For clarification, this is referring to the ~50 MB download, not simply java web start , which is explained on http://unattended.msfn.org.
  13. This seemed to work for me--I believe the same procedures for my pictures and my videos should work also. ;--set my documents folder [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders] "Personal"="D:\\My Documents" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders] "Personal"="D:\\My Documents"
  14. Favorite Applications: Media Player (video): Media Player Classic 6.4.8.2 Media Player (audio): Windows Media Player 9 Codecs: Cool Codecs 2.2 P2P: DC++ Office: OpenOffice.org 1.9.65 Beta (impressive thus far) Instant Messaging: AIM 5.5.3752, MSN Messenger 7 Beta Spyware: Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1*, Spybot 1.4 Beta 2, Ad-aware SE 1.05 Personal Antivirus: SAV 9.0 Corporate Edition Desktop Search: Google Desktop Search CD Burning: IBM RecordNow! 7.22 Graphics: Adobe Photoshop CS Compression: 7-Zip 4.13 Beta Notepad Replacement: Notepad2 Email: Outlook Express 6 Those to watch out for: Graphics: Paint .NET v2.0 - created by students at Washington State, requires .NET Framework 1.1, is worth replacing mspaint Spyware: Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta1 - impressed me with features of HiJackThis, realtime protection like Spybot, and automatic updating and scan scheduling; however, the first time i silently installed, it didn't run properly Media Player (audio): iTunes 4.7 - this application has free mp3 decoding, burns faster than WMP (any version) Quick Question: Does Thunderbird support Hotmail? If not, then i'm sticking with outlook express 6, because outlook 2003 can be very sluggish.
  15. I am a little lost...basically, are you saying it is not only possible to slipstream service pack 1 into office 2003, but also slipstream office 2003 itself into windows xp sp2?
  16. I am also impressed with the properties specific to iTunes.msi file (thanks to hulala.[uk]) and would like to know if this was possible for other msi files as well, and how to do so. As far as iTunes.msi is concerned, this is what my sample batch file looked like: @echo off echo. echo trying itunes... start /wait iTunes.msi ISSETUPDRIVEN=0 SILENT_INSTALL=1 It installs iTunes with an interface that looks like if you had used the "/qb" switch with normal msi. However, upon first run, iTunes complains about not being able to import or burn files because the drivers are missing. I do not own an iPod, so I don't know if other functions were affected also. Perhaps an explanation and clearer post of the individual properties would be beneficial.
  17. i have also tried an silent installation of itunes and failed; i have even used the help switch (/?) and it displayed what to use (/s /v/qn), but for some reason it still would not silently install. I also can validate that grabbing the extracted msi (and even all the included files in the temp folder) still did not lead to an immediate solution.
  18. honestly, i would like to do without the longhorn transformation pack, but i would like all of the files that it extracts...if they made it so someone could extract all of the contained files, then it could be even the more useful... on that note, i have two things I wonder about: 1) there is something called longhornui.exe that is loaded with windows after installing the transformation pack. In my opinion, anything extra that has to be loaded increases boot time 2) on certain skins (like Luna Enhanced) my windows twitch anyone else experience this?
  19. what about group policy editor...If you type "gpedit.msc" in the run dialog box, you'll open up policy editor, in which some like say has the most power as far as customization. At any rate, if you go down the tree as follows: Local Computer Policy Windows Settings Security Settings Local Policies Security Options In the right hand panel will be a list of items, including: "Accounts: rename Administrator account". If that doesn't work, try going to Start --> Run, and type "control userpasswords2" and see what you can do with that besides automating logon with a specific password...
  20. I don't see the point of this hack...if you uninstall anything associated with Viewpoint Media Player, the ad in the AIM buddy list will go away...
  21. try creating a pif file, an ms-dos shorcut that tells the logon script to be minimized...that way, your client's won't see it so easily, and less phone calls for you.... and on a second note, i think the default shorcuts created in windows xp from ms-dos documents have these options to minimize and things like that as well
  22. I have read all of the comments, and I must say that I can understand how this can seem pointless. However, I am a student at a university, and a lot of students do not automate or run windows update like they should, nor run ad-aware, spybot, or their virus scanners. For clarification, the feature "disable system restore" is equivalent to turning off system restore and clearing all the restore points. This is necessary if a user has a virus, to prevent restoring a virus into existence again. Also, the DCOM and MS0-0411 vulnerabilities are the targets for some of the worst viruses, and being that this application could check for and patch systems at risk, it could prevent widespread viruses on campus. To prevent repeating myself, the purpose of this program is to provide an interface that somewhat includes the functionality of the spyware and virus scanning software, and keep it updated if it is not already. Believe me, I am aware of the uselessness of this program for people, for example, that post in this forum and visit this site regularly. However, most people are not so computer-savvy, and I myself still have a lot to learn in the world of programming. So, again, thinking from a security standpoint of someone who doesn't know better, I need suggestions and feature ideas to help clean the computers of my fellow colleagues. Also, I have two questions: 1) Which is better if at all - Visual Basic .Net or Visual Basic C++? 2) What would I use to program in C++ (not .Net C++) Thanks all who respond.
  23. This is my first post reborn, and I'm doing so simply for support and suggestions. I'm working on a maintenance program that already does the following: check for available ad-aware se & spybot 1.3 updates checks for and installs the latest service pack (2K & XP) deletes temporary internet files disable system restore scan for known viral and spyware related registry keys, files, and processes checks for dcom vulnerability integrates symantec virus removal tools updates virus definitions creates a scan log of objects deleted/removed/unable to be deleted future features already planned: check for ms04-011 vulnerability check for available windows updates check for updates for itself This application still lacks a proper name, and it requires the .Net Framework. Any suggeststion would be highly appreciated.
  24. i plan to use visual basic .net, since technically, most languages seem to be permutations of each other anyways.
  25. I will be using Visual Studio to create this program.
