  1. That's it! And you have not tried to use nLite or run any CMD after slipstreaming? Please have a look at your SOURCESS one more time: is there SP4.CAB in i386 folder? I can't help you right now (don't want to mess things up) but please be sure your problem has a very simple solution. Just wait tommyp comes with the remedy If you are in a hurry or have time to try again get an older version (for example, version from October 16 will be fine).
  2. Sorry, maybe I'm not clear. Please have a look at only one file named DRIVER.CAB which is in you i386 directory. How many MBs it is?
  3. gdkehl Don't be upset! It happens even with the best of us The files you specified - icam3.inf, pjlmon.dll, rca.sys, srgb.icm, swenum.sys - make me think that something wrong with DRIVER.CAB. Could you please have a look at SOURCESS folder or on you CD and tell me how big is this file (in MB)? I'm sure your problem can be solved!
  4. rfliu2000 多谢朋友! tommyp Have you understand what rfliu2000 meant? I'm interested because I'm going to install a few computers for our office with W2k Chinese
  5. -.-PhanTom-.- Try elegant solution with HFSLIP You won't have any big file in you cource except for those that are already in there.
  6. Elotemuygrande You may have a look at this site and search for IE-removal INFs (there were some for removing IE and some more components AFTER install). For W2k, but you can modify it for your OS.
  7. Crash&Burn Thanks, I had that suspicion
  8. A very big problem with it, really big problem is in drivers and hardware support. Like Crash&Burn said: if sometime I buy a computer that just can't run Windows 2000 because there is no W2k drivers for its hardware that will be a disaster But there is a big hope too because all Windowses after W2k uses its architecture and the driver support should be nearly the same. I also read somewhere how to add drivers from Windows 2000 to Windows NT - modifying OS version somewhere in registry. Hope this trick will work for a long time. There will be some problems with modern protocols but if the trick with drivers still works it makes me think there is a way to "import" other things from newer OS. Note aside: maybe we'll together find a way to include some very new drivers in Windows 2000 too As for outdated, don't think so. You may use Windows 2000 OS core for basic functionality (start up, power off, calculator, etc but use very new programs for daily work and entertaiment - free and ports from Linux world like Open Office, mplayer, Fire Fox, Thunderbird, etc. I'm lazy and don't like appz that installs without me repacking them
  9. fdv Just to clarify: does the trick Crash&Burn with junction.exe do the same as Jonathan Howell's 'dummy' iexplore.exe - makes program think there is IE on the system?

    HFEXPERT

saugatak xchm - good program but I needed native support for Help System because of one of my application As for commenting CHM and HLP files - I did the job but fall asleep yesterday. I'd like to make a small comment to fdv alone with sending files. Do it today when back from the exhibition. And I have another news about reducing the source working with only two big files (may be less about 40MB) without even using nLite But later

    HFEXPERT

saugatak I think you are confusing OEM folders wtih HFEXPERT. This folder works like OEM for some content but not exactly has all its functionality. If you don't use OEM folders sturcture but still want to place some folders in WINNT or SYSTEM32 you may try creating SFX archive with WinRar using a directive like this: Path=%WinDir%\System32 SavePath Silent=1 Overwrite=1 In this examle contents of an archive will be placed within SYSTEM32 folder. Please try the archive and see does it work like you need before you use it in unattended. Then you may place your SFX archive in HFSVPK_SW folder, include this SFX manually in SVCPACK.INF or run from a simple CMD placed in folder HFSVPK. Up to you And one more tip If you need (like me) openning CHM and HLP ability on a system with fdv's files just run winhtml.inf from your installation disk. You won't need any 3d party software. And for more security you can comment or even delete refferences to jscript.dll and shdoclc.dll in this INF file (every file mentioned twice in INF - just comment or delete these lines before you burn your installation disk).
  12. All Amazing! This is just Amazing! Just tried HFSLIP+FDV+NLITE and this is amazing! Windows 2000 Pro with SP4, latest hotfixes, DirectX 9C, configured and tweaked and All my programs and important documents are on 250MB disk only (!) installing just in 15 minutes! I have only half of a an hour to look throgh my appz but all seems working without issues. Will experiment more B) But I should say that I'm going to try removing as much files as possible with only CMD method nLite is a GREAT program but you have to learn it and it needs .NET and installing. And I'm lazy ® tommyp Have you tried my CHM-HLP removal file? It removes from the resulting source some more MBs (about 5 megs will be free additionally).
  13. hp38guser Good work, thanx! Crash&Burn I have makecab.exe on my Windows 2000 Professional B)

    Where's WMP10?

Yzöwl Sorry, I'm careless again Have not noticed there was a link for it in your post. tommyp Can you have a look at it? It is really much smaller that one we have at the moment.
  15. saugatak No problem with that. I have a bug today morning too: I saw things and was sure it was like I saw, but when I did the same procedure in the evening it was not excatly the same It happens sometimes B)

    Thanx! Original SFC.EXE is smaller

    Where's WMP10?

Yzöwl The file you mention, is it publically available? Can we get it for download somewhere?

    SFC Options

fdv As you mention two files in your last post I'd like to clarify: should both SFC.DLL and SFCFILES.DLL be replaced or one SFC.DLL? I suppose only one

    SFC Options

fdv After replacing SFC.DLL should any regestry changes be done also? Or just replacing will work?
  20. pene I know for sure that Speed Disk for Windows 98 can be standalone (does not need installation). But it is quite difficult to do the version that doesn't need installation for NT. I meant that the program itself can be taken from the whole Suit and be one installer. No hacking involved. If I'm not mistaken it was very simple. Something with changing its directive to install as it was in earlier versions in ISS file maybe. Sorry I don't remember. Maybe have a look later.
  21. Most likely not. There is a note about it (explorer replacement) somewhere on fdv's site if I'm not mistaken.
  22. Daemonforce Corrupted - I meant one of the CABs needed for IE6 maybe downloaded corrupted. I supposed it because you wrote before that XPCREAT also didn't work for integrating IE. Maybe both methods have something with your IE files. ERROR_REPORT.TXT - it's a form one should fill in if he has errors with HFSLIP. There are two copies appear after you run the script: one in the folder where you have just run HFSLIP.CMD and one in SOURCESS folder (there are two messages about error report also when you start and finish HFSLIP and there is also a clear explanation on fdv's site about this report too). I don't have any errors about DirectX 9C (running dxdiag.exe will pop-up DirectX Diagnostic Tool and it says I have DirectX verson 9C . It works, and Windows Update doesn't recommend it to me like it was before I slipstreamed it. Well, that's up to you. Nobody insists. You have your choice. I give up too
  23. Daemonforce Strange Could you post ERROR_REPORT.TXT for tommyp please? It's working here and many persons did that. And setup shouldn't hangs because of HFSLIP - if something wrong with integrating it just won't integrate but Windows should installs. The script doesn't alter any files importand for setup and just can't corrupt anything. You probably found that it only unpacks hot-fixes or CABs, place updated files in distro and adds some INFs with tweaks there. If something can't work it can be only a hot-fix or integrated item. Not Windows itself. One thing I just thought: could you open rollup and all CAB files with WinRar and extract in a folder? Any errors extracting files? It is possibe that one or a few of these files are broken during the download (it happens with me often and I have to examing this way). Or you may have a corrupted distributive (it also happened with me - CD-ROM was damaged and just didn't work). As for INF. It is probably possible to include all the settings in HIVEs but it totally depends on what you are integrating. HFSLIP is universal - some people want IE6 integrating, some not; some will integrate DirectX 9C, some stay with version 7; some place all hot-fixes as specified on fdv's page, some omit some hot-fixe or place even more. And integrating HIVEs should be done manually and if you make mistake there... And not all of us are computer specialists (I'm not

Well, we should ask fdv is is worthwile or not. In general I think it is a good idea because as fdv said it protects system files of beeing replaced by some program installers. But I doubt it is possible to rename THIS file through the batch in working system. Probably. Let's first listen fdv's opinion

fdv Could this tool be a solution? InUse is a command-line tool that performs on-the-fly replacement of files currently in use by the operating system. You must be a member of the Administrators group to use this tool. InUse is primarily used to replace locked operating system files. After running the tool, the file specified is not replaced until the system is restarted. During restart, the system moves the file immediately after AUTOCHK is run, but before creating any paging files. This tool is useful for troubleshooting purposes, where you might need to replace an individual file on your computer instead of an entire set of files.
