  1. kalo Don't be in a hurry Why do you want to make the source smaller? If you just want your computer is faster and has more free memory - please run HFSLIP with FDV's files set included. You see, the biggest problem with removing files is in you never know if somebody or something (a game for example will need one of these files. And with FDV's set it is nearly safe. Well, to tell a little secret... If you read FDV's webpage carefully you may find a tip how to reduce some source files

Sorry for confusing you Well just in two words: - if you only watch movies and use mplayer you may not integrate codecs at all except for QT, Real and the two extra files I listed; - if you sometimes edit multimedia files (cut some episodes, convert music files or something like this) you'd better leave it as is.

But if you get USB CD-Writer please remembe me Frankly speaking I had one small command line tool for copy protected CD that only worked with Adaptec drivers and not even latest. I don't have this tool now but it was good. I took it somewhere on Daemon Tools page. Now I think there should be the way to have it running... Well, maybe some day To many projects at the same time is not so good

Sorry, I can't be more specific then that: Using HFSLIP and its HFEXPERT folders you can place any file in your - %WinDir% - %WinDir%\System - %WinDir%\System32 - %WinDir%\System32\Drivers during installation without using OEM folders structure and without using WINNT.SIF (or you can use it - up to you, all variants are possible). Only this locations are available right now with HFSLIP. This is a very simple map but at least you have this map for 4 folders without OEM as you requested Or , as cluberti said " there is no other way" for you And you didn't mentioned GuirunOnce at the first posting But is is completely possible with HFSLIP too

Not so fast Have some patience, FDV already removed a few things in beta version and it's going to be some more in release, and...
  8. HFSLIP has some OEM folders functionality (and a lot more There is a HFEXPERT folder (created manually) in which you may place some files that will be copied in apropriate locations. Folders for your unattended needs that are available now: Drivers, System, System32. It means that if you need a file in your System32 on the system you just place it in HFEXPERT\System32 folder before running CMD script. You may not use OEM folder, you may not use WINNT.SIF in HFSLIP. There are a few more specific folders that are not connected with OEM folders structure but may be very handy too
  9. No. Some new (and aproximately new) programs use Holfman table (sorry if I misspelled the name, don't remember for sure but it's working only on NT systems). Some have a choice what to use (one copy creating program). And you are probably using programs that have its own layers Some time ago (don't know if now) the aspi layer from Nero was freely available from their site downlod if I'm not mistaken. It doesn't need registering with regestry and it supports a few more CD-ROM hardware (I needed it when I got a USB CD-RW - Adaptec driver doesn't see USB CD-Roms). And it's only one DLL that you only need to place in HFEXPERT\SYSTEM32, no other actions required
  10. jamessmart747 The file is for printer driver. Not important unless your printer using it But the fact that installation is so slow and gives you errors is not normal. Have a look and ask in nLite Forum?

Unfortunatelly I can't try it right now because I've already CABed all my drivers with your previous version but I'll try next week when we get a new computer (with some new drivers I suppose jrxnelson When you run this file in a folder with a driver files it will leave only needed files, CABs them like FILE.SY_ and deletes the other files from this folder. (I suppose, new version will make sub-folders into CABs?) Then you can use compressed files like you did with uncompressed but now your drivers will take less place on your installation CD or on your hard drive.
  12. tommyp You may probably need ASPI if you are using some old but good programs for converting CD to MP3, for copying CDs, writing on USB CD-Recorders or something similar. New versions rarely use this functionality. But sometimes it may be useful.
  13. saugatak If you are going to use MPLAYER you won't need most of these files I found that I only need one file from DirectX 9 and one from Media Player 10 Codecs to play all video I have (audio also should work I just listen MP3 and WAV with other interesting program Additional files I mentioned (you may already have them if you slipstream DX and wmfdist.exe): - wmvdmod.dll (from MP10 codecs); - msdmo.dll (from DX). By the way, I'd recommend not to rename MPLAYER, just place it in HFEXPERT\SYSTEM32. Please download a small and powerfull GUI for it (MPUI) from here _http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~mfie/index.php?software=mpui - you don't need it really if you are good with command line but if you don't it will save you a lot of efforts. Rename MPUI.EXE to mplayerc.exe and don't touch anything else! PS I forgot! If you are going to encode video with some of your program you may still need some of the files! PPS MPUI is like good old Media Player v6.4 - not fancy but functional. I saw some versions of MPLAYER with interesting (funcky GUI already incorporated (in that case MPLAYER.EXE should be renamed and substitute mplayerc.exe), but MPUI is small (100KB) and has two features that those appz don't: it deals very easy with DVD and subtitles.

  15. saugatak Frankly speaking I'm not a computer specialist So if I'm wrong please somebody correct me. As far as I know (and I know very little about it the files with AX extention are DirectX filters and most of them are dealing with playing multimedia files. If you are using MPLAYER like me (Windows port from Linux world) you don't need any filters in the system at all I also tried placing all mentioned files and Media Player Classic in one folder and it played my test QT-Real files without two AXs registered or even in the system. BUT! It will be better if you register two AX anyway because this way you'll be able to play QT and Real on ALL players for Windows (with other listed files of course). As for playing media files in FireFox - get the extention MediaPlayerConnectivity - it works good for me. It happens with me very often I confuse it with Windows 2000 (if I have it that doesn't mean everybody else has it too But ater updating there should be a message to inform you that update is performed? And (compairing with W2k) there is probably one more file alone with the i386 folder (for SP4 in W2k it is cdromsp4.tst (see last letters?).

HFEXPERT doesn't know Drivers folder so you may use OEM folders or create a self-extracting installer (or wait TommyP implements Yzöwl's script if you don't know how to insert it).
  18. A quicky one (going back in a while): all REG, INF, CMD files with tweaks are going to HFSVPK. I use Nero aspi.dll and it doesn't need to be registered (just place it in system32). I have to look if I can find my disks with old installations where I use Adaptec drives. I only remember that some files went to system and some to system32. Wait for a half of an hour when I'm back.

  20. saugatak No, everything is going very well (5 installations in a row The 6th is on the way I just list the changes I made, who knows what was calling that file. As for LAYOUT.INF. If you have the file in TXTSETUP.SIF uncommented it doesn't metter if it is in LAYOUT.INF or not (IMHO). I got BSOD (I suspect) because I tried to delete some files
  21. FDV I'm happy to report that the problem with IEXPLORE.EXE is solved (tried twice What I did: 1. I commented two lines in SYSOC.INF (dts and com). 2. I commented IEXPLORE.EXE in TXTSETUP.SIF (there are two instances should be commented). During installation it didn't poped up again. And it is in right folder in %ProgramFiles%. Interesting thing that my problem with "There is no program for HTML" is also solved with the last HFSLIP version. But it is probably still in one of my programs. I left only one program installing for testing - it's installed from CMD (installs all my programs), its DLL is registered from INF (all my registry tweaks) that are running during unattended and that way I know both files are working. As I'm not installing many programs for testing I can't say for sure if removing COM and DTC somehow appeared but there is no sign of problems yet. Have to try it on a real computer and install printer, scanner and try internet. PS Some files from COM and DTC INFs seem to be needed for the system because without them I get BSOD during installation.
