fdv I think it's very related I'd like to help you with testing but I'm afraid I'll ask more questions then bring any use. For example: should I reinstall Windows without IE6 files but with only your OE6 in script folders? Best regards, Oleg 2

Sorry if I understood the question wrong. There are some threads about Outlook Express setings with unattended installation that helped me: One Two There may be some more I've just missed. I save all my e-mails to the second logical drive and import my settings with a .reg file and a .js script. If you also want to add all your e-mail database you can make a self extracting archive from it and unzip/unrar to the right folder directly from CD. Regards, Oleg 2

I was not trying to give offence to anybody. If it looks so with my English I'm sorry. I was just expressing my thoughts about the future of this project. And I'm agree that Gurgelmeyer did a great job, nobody blames him because it doesn't depend on him. But I'm also won't sit and wait if there are some other methods to make my Windows better right now. Regards, Oleg 2

Well, I'm chosing TommyP's method of slipstreaming hotfixes - it works with Rollup now! Go here Gurgelmeyer did a great job, hope he'll revial some of his secrets how it was done in future. But frankly speaking I had feelings that we are not going to have this SP5 anyway. Regards, Oleg 2

2fdv On your site you recommend to change ntdetect.com and ntldr from W2k to WinXP files in order W2k loads faster. Would it be better to change them to the same files from W2k3? And does this really work? Regards, Oleg 2

kennys Could you please specify the command to slipstream it into the source? Regards, Oleg 2

@fdv Thank you very much for support. I'm back home and have some time to look at my installations. I was wrong - OE is on my system, but not propely registered (ierunonce.dll should be uncommented in txtsetup.sif too I've already reinstalled W2k and it's working. And chms are working also There is no shdoclc.dll on all three of my installations (two on Virtual PC and one on my home real computer). No sign of IE but I maybe wrong? And there are a few more questions came up after all experiments: - The link to OE after the installation is in Accessories cection. The new one (link) appears in Programs section after starting OE. Where in your files I can get rid off it? - I tried to change "dosprompt here" to "Command prompt here" in ie.inf but it appears as it was before changing. Where I should change it to my liking? And add some more tweaks - dll-files may be registered now through right click but it doesn't work for me: LoadLibrary("....avisynth.dllHKCR") failed - the specified module could not be found. - I use your files to turn off Windows Protection System. Could it be turned on again when I need it? - Is there some place I can read and ask people about software they are using on systems without IE (I found one more program that apears to have problems functioning - NanDub but maybe it all me And I found a good replacement to Quick launch (more exectly to Start menu) that is not resource consumpting and very convinient to use - Hidden Menu. Best regards, Oleg 2

Very strange... I tryed to post the results of my experiment yesterday but it is not here... Well, repeting that. I installed W2k SP4 on Virtual PC with fdv's 2nd files set and with his msoe50.inf There is also the program Network Stumbler installed automatically through cmdlines.txt/appz.cmd wich opens a CHM file at the end of installation. During the installation there were two errors: 1. One file is missing - iernonece.exe (?). There is probably a mistake in the name of the file, maybe in msoe50.inf, I didn't check it yet. 2. "No program on your system is registered to handle HTML files. The help page cannot be opened." The CHM file opened before the second error window. After the installation the Outlook Express is not on the system, there is no such file shdoclc.dll and all helps and chm-files can be opened. And I didn't found IE also. If you give me the list of files I should check I can do it today. And one question as always I uncommented the line with msoe50.inf in syssetup.inf, there is also the line with wab.inf. I didn't uncommented it, should I? Best regards, Oleg 2

@fdv No, it didn't ask for cd (it was unattended and cd was in the tray), it just complained about "Can't open the file because of ..." but in a few minutes file was opened by himself. I can't confirm if there is shdoclc.dll on the system untill I'm back home on June 17 maybe. But I'll definitely check for it. If I have time during my trip I'll probably spend one night with trying to simulate it in Virtual PC and report back. Regards, Oleg 2 PS Quick question: you don't cab your files? Just rename them with _ instad of the last letter? Should I do the same or can I still cab them?

@fdv Thank you very much! Will try it after I'm back from business trip. Just curious if it is possible to install it during unattended? As for Help: there was a bug during of one of my experiments wich installed Help on my system but I have not found any trace of IE after it. You can try to simulate this instal: include a chm file to your batch file wich is run through cmdlines.txt. During unattended installation there is an error opening this file (something like "There is no Help system") but installation continues and it installs all the helps and some Help system files. You have to close the error window in order the unattended complete. In my case a proram (NetStumbler) opens a chm by the end of its installation and this installs Help system (a few system files and all helps in corresponding folder). Best regards, Oleg 2
-
@fdv That will be very kind of you. And if you can help me to install Help system also that would be great I need some of its files for one of my appz and for reading some .chm files (unfortunately the program you recomend for this doesn't always work for me - some files I have can't be read). Best regards, Oleg 2

Gurgelmeyer I'll be happy having only the Update Pack And I have one question about future hotfixes-updates. If I slipstream the Update Pack to the source and there are some new hotfixes out will it be possible to slipstream them into the source also? I mean on top of already slipstreamed source. Best regards, Oleg 2

victoria I don't use IE on W2k and even blocked its access to the Internet with firewall. I tried to install W2k without it (Remove IE from Windows at install and found that only two appz I use apart from included in system depends on IE's engine: one is a Flash player and the other is the small and cute web-editor. Everything worked fine. In fact I found the way for the editor to work without IE installing just a few files from Windows Help system. The only reason I'm still installing OS with IE is I'm still using Outlook's address book - I can't find the alternative that suits my requirements. Best regards, Oleg 2

Slipstreemed the Update Pack with the bach file from MSFN - W2K IE6SP1 Total Slipstream There is one issue: when I check with Windows Update it founds only 5 missing updates and they are IE6.1, DX9 and othe stuff that really aren't needed. MS tool qfecheck.exe says But when I check with Daisy v2.2 wich uses Security Hotfix Checker v3.86 from Shavlik Technologies it says there are 16 hotfixes are missing. I guess it checks the regestry and doesn't find references on installed hotfixes. I'd rather change it manually but need to know the real name for each SP5-hotfix. Is it possible to get the list of all included hotfixes and their correspondence to the numbers SP5-...? Best reagards, Oleg 2
-
WOW! Great! Could it be integrated into the source? I mean the Update Pack. And I think it's better to have separete modules for Option Pack because not all would like to upgrade to IE6.1 or don't need DirectX9. Best regards, Oleg 2

Install Chinese and English unattended?
Oleg_II replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Not true what? That's what I meant: if specifyng ANY Chinese Input method in Reginal Languages in winnt.sif (even only ONE will do!) and setup will install files for ALL Chinese Input methods. Just choose what you need in Control panel and add which you want later if don't know which suits you best before installation. And of course there should be LANG folder and CHS adn CHT (for Simplifyed and Traditional) in the source folder (I delete other subfolders in LANG as I don't use and don't install those languages just to save space). Install Chinese and English unattended?
Oleg_II replied to Sgt_Strider's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Depends on what kind of Chinese you speak: if you use Putonghua you definitely know about PinYin so choose 0804:E00E0804 ChS Microsoft PinYin - it let you type Chinese characters by PinYin. But if you do it for a Chinese friend ask him first because it appears that Chinese don't know good PinYin and use some other input like WuBiZiXing. Or just don't worry because when you install one Chinese Input the others will install also and you can choose any from Control Panel-Keyboard-Input Locales. Regards, Oleg 2 -
Stupid me! Found the switches with Universal Silent Switch Finder. 1. Extract with WinRar to AtGuard folder to C:\. 2. Run C:\AtGuard\Setup.exe /r /f1"c:\setup.iss" 3. Place setup.iss in AtGuard. 4. Create self-extracting archive of folder AtGuard with WinRar using this comment: Path=%systemdrive%\Temp (my %temp% folder created during unattended on C:\) SavePath Silent=1 Overwrite=1 setup=AtGuard\Setup.exe /s /f1"AtGuard\setup.iss" Works! Best regards, Oleg 2

Just wondering if it is possible to install unattended this quite old but good firewall - AtGuard (or @Guard). Best regards, Oleg 2

Dear friends, The .js script idle.newbie posted here works perfect. A guess batch file also works, I just don't use it at the moment but probably found out were my problem with it was. But now I wonder if it is possible to redirect mail store folder with inf-file? Or could somebody let me know how to define Current User ID in inf? Best regards, Oleg 2

Sorry, a bug.

Ups... I though you want to create the shortcut during unattended installation. Then it should work. If you are using it after installation in a Power User mode why not just log as an Administrator, run the script and re-log as your Power User? Reagards, Oleg 2
