  1. tommyp, fdv How's going on? Just to tell you we have not forgot about this thread, just waiting for your news Best regards, Oleg 2
  2. fdv You mean if I take out the only hotfix for IE I have IE5.01sp4-KB896727-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exe it's going to work? Is this hotfix so important if I'm not going to use IE and even OE? Can it be installed after system installation when everything works? Your last set of files works very good for me except for installing OE and openning .chm files. I'm even ready to try it without OE Thunderbird and its address book are not as bad and can work with Russian and Chinese at the same time (the functionality I couldn't find in other programs except for OE). But I need some IE functionality to open .chm files as I have a lot of docs in that format and my favorit html-editor works with this functionality too (I found it when Help system was installed accidentely during unattended and this progy worked after that - I wrote about it before). Best regards, Oleg 2
  3. fdv Tried your set again today (I waisted my holidays again with this computer Re-running IEACCESS.inf doesn't help - .chm files open with only white background, no contents displayed I also tried to run your stand alone OE.exe on top of installation but OE also doesn't work - there is a grey background for preview window and I can't create a new message (described it last time). Have not tried it on system installed without OE then (sorry, forgot it). One more touch - I also tried to install without OE and there is "Mail Recipient" in Send To - no need for this if OE is not installed, I suppose? And hotfixes page. I'm confused - there are some more hotfixes than in your page here and there is no IE5.01sp4-KB896727-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exe - you wrote that it should be slipstreamed .Any way, I used only hotfixes from your page and it seems to be working fine for me. Best regards, Oleg 2 PS To all who uses international MUI - I asked about it a couple of days ago. It seems the MUI patches something with file versions and if a language other then English chosen there are a lot of hotfixes shown on update sites. But if choose English as a system language again there is no updates shown. So, I guess, the fully patched system with MUI on top is still up-to-date even if there are updates shown as not installed.
  4. tommyp, pene Have the same problem with usb camera here. Probably the DX slipstream is broken - something missing in regestry maybe? After installing USB camera Windows wants to reboot: "Windows 2000 has finished installing new devices. You must restart your computer before the new settings will take effect." There are a few "!" signs (exclamation points) in Device Manger: USB PC Camera 301P in Other devices and BDA IPSink BDA Slip De-Framer Closed Capion Decoder Microsoft Streaming Service Proxy NABTS/FEC VBI Codec World Standard Teletext Codec - all in "Sound, video and game controllers". The corresponding .infs seems to be in INF folder on the system and should be fine. There is only "USB PC Camera 301P" in Device Manager after reboot. The camera can't be used: "Sorry, you have no video capture hardvare. Video capture will not function properly." If re-run DirectX installer the camera starts working. I tested 3 installations (with IE and DX, only IE, just hotfixes for the system). I have the ERROR_REPORT.TXT for the first one but the problem seems to be with DirectX slipstream because the driver installs perfectly on any system without slipstreamed DX. There is one more file in my repacked DirectX installer - BDAXP.cab and this installer works, maybe there is something there that should to be installed too? Best regards, Oleg 2 PS I found this problem a few days ago but thought it might be connected with some fault from my side. So I tried three different installations today just to confirm it is related to DX slipstream. I still have two images of the system for previous installations where this happened so if there is some information needed for solving this problem I could try to help (not a technitian but will try).
  5. My installation from slipstreamed source shows no updates in Windows Update and 62nds.com. I have only one strange problem with usb camera driver but I'm investigating it now. I tried to use Russian and Chines Simplified MUI today and found that after applying there are about 23 hotfixes shown in 62nds.com. All of them are connected with outdated file versions. Just curious - does using MUI really changes the files that were updated once to older files or it is just the metter of MUI patching file versions to localized and the installation is still up-to-date in fact? Windows 2000 Professional SP4 English with DirectX9.1c and hotfixes, no IE splipstreaming. Best regards, Oleg 2
  6. fdv Sorry, I was careless, it's msimn.exe - OE executable. I'll try your set at the weekend again. tommup No, I don't use IE at all and there is only one hotfix for it in HF folder IE5.01sp4-KB896727-Windows2000sp4-x86-ENU.exe as advised by fdv (there are other hotfixes for the system also). Regards, Oleg 2
  7. Does this method work for Windows 2000 Pro? I tried to follow instructions on the first page, change only one thing in Drivers.au3: win51ip.SP2 to cdrom_ip.5. But it didn't work for me. In old method there is a possibility to compress drivers, place them on CD and then uncompress from CD to the system drive installing from there. Is it possible in new method? Sorry I'm not familiar with AutoIt. Regards, Oleg 2
  8. Sorry, can't find it. There is no *dun*.exe in my system. Maybe another name for the DUN executable? Found one: rasphone.exe. Too late, have to roll back. Try it next time. Regards, Oleg 2
  9. fdv Tried the new set of files. Still have some problems. 1. Windows 2000 Professional English with SP4. 2. DirectX and all hotfixes from your page except hotfixes for IE6.1 slipstreamed with hfslip 50902. No other software and drivers are installed. 3. Changed only these files: notepad.exe (Mark v0.9f), ntdetect.com and ntldr (from XP), riched20.dll (v5.40.11.2210). Issues: 1. When starting OE: "There was a problem switching folders, possibly the folder was busy. Please wait a moment and try again". Tried to move Store Folder on C: but it doesn't help. 2. There is a standard letter "Welcome to Outlook Express 5" in Inbox. But the content can't be seen - only grey colour insted of it. 3. When clicking on New Message there is an error "One or more parts of this message could not be displayed. Clicking on OK then gives "There was an error openning the message. There is not enough memory". 4. After closing OE it can't be opened again but there is a process runing msmn.exe. If that process is closed OE can run again. 5. CHM files don't work - no contents is displayed, only white background. If mshtml.dll is placed into system32 nothing changes. 6. Transparency doesn't work - no problem for me, just for info. Regards, Oleg 2 P.S. Forgot to mention that DELFILES.txt deletes msnm.exe needed for OE installation. Not a problem really.
  10. TooMuchFreeTime At first look nLite has the option of removing OE. But I don't have much experience in this program yet. There is a set of files that can remove IE and OE during the installation: Remove IE from Windows 2000 at install OE may be installed alone. Probably there is a way to install IE only. You also may read this thread MSFN - W2K IE6SP1 Total Slipstream (especially last pages conserning fdv's set of files). But I personally think that if you find OE can be replaced, why not to try finding a better alternative to IE? FireFox for example Best regards, Oleg 2
  11. fdv Man, you are tempting me I installed OE uncommenting the INF file in SYSSETUP and installing it _with_ Windows. At first startup it worked good. But after I ran FireFox it stoped responding on clicking (nothing happened after clicking the icon or the executive). About nLite - I tried it this morning. It didn't installed maybe because I deleted too much from the source. But I was impressed about how it reduced the source from 242 MB to 151 MB (about 25 MB is saved for Chines Simplified and Chinese Traditional in LANG folder - I need them). Do you have any recommendation how to reduce the source with your files? Best regards, Oleg 2
  12. WOW! Interesting! I defenitely should try it some day. Thank you very much for this info. I found the Alternative Runtimes and I understand now why it is not necessary to install .NET Framework. Best regards, Oleg 2
  13. tommyp Thanks for replying. I'm not using nLite yet Could you tell us what features you are getting rid off with it? Any issues if using the resulting cource on different computers? Just curious, maybe I should try it. I'm satisfied in general with fdv's set of files but I need some features of IE (Help System), use OE and Address Book (haven't found a good prorams for working with completely different languages at the same time) and it takes a lot of time customizing the installation for my needs, so I don't use his set at the moment. And as I found just now nLite needs Microsoft .NET Framework, that you don't include in the script Best regards, Oleg 2
  14. Anybody uses Pyron's method for installing drivers unattended ? When I use this method it seems that running .exe, .cmd, .inf and .reg files in SVCPACK folder from svcpack.inf is broken - they don't run. And when I don't use Pyron's method they run without problem. There is no problem with my customized .inf and .cmd files - I can run them from cmdlines.txt. And I can run all .exe files with a .cmd file from cmdlines.txt also. But there are some other files like HFSLIPIE.CMD and all .cats in SVCPACK folder that maybe don't run also (I don't know for sure). How can I confirm that all hotfixes are installed properly? I'm using Daisy v2.2, 62nds.com and M$ Windows Update to check the new installation and everything looks to be fine when I don't use Pyron's set of files (M$ Update complains about two critical hotfixes that are not needed). But when I use his set one more hotfix is shown that should be installed. And frankly speeking I'd like to get rid of OEM folder and cmdlines.txt - it is possible with HFSLIP tommyp Any chance you include drivers integration in your script? At least Intel Chipset and other chipsets fdv I had a problem with Internet Connection Wizard when was trying to establish a new connection through modem - it was just keeping to say that the chosen name is incorrect no metter of what kind of name I choose (a word or a number) and didn't let me create the connection. Sorry, I didn't investigate it further. And I had a problem with OE - it installed and could be run but after I ran FireFox only once OE wouldn't start again. Didn't investigate it either. The booting time for the newest set of files was long too (it was much faster when I used sp4files and it is much faster without your set of file so the problem is not in the appz I'm running). Windows 2000 Professional SP4 English is here. You've done and doing a great job but I have to postpone of using your files untill I have some more free time for computing and experimenting (I have to get free from the computer, I've been spending too much time on it last two years, I want to have some real LIFE By the way, I tried to use a couple of empty files for mstask.inf and msnetmtg.in_ and they seem to work after the "regular" installation - Task Sheduler and Net Meeting are not installed. But after using it there is one more hotfix shown for Task Sheduler Is it possible to "hack" it through regestry so that it doesn't show on Windows Update? And is it secure to use such empty files during the installation? Best regards, Oleg 2
  15. Sorry, if it was answered before but I can't find a clear description of using this tool also. I wonder if pyron's modified setup.exe needed for this method? I'm asking because using his set of files seems to influence running svcpack.inf: when I place a .cmd or .exe file in SVCPACK folder and add it in svcpack.inf it doesn't run, but it runs when I use "a clean" installation without modified setup.exe Best regards, Oleg 2
  16. Just wondering: is it possible to make such registry changes (User ID) with .inf file? I use .cmd file and I'm happy with it. But just for educational purposes Best regards, Oleg 2
  17. This is exactly the problem I had when trying to define new placement for mail folder during unattended. User ID is uniquely created for each installation. I found the answer in this thread: OE - Import&Export Rules You may want to take the idea and make the script of your liking. Best regards, Oleg 2
  18. tommyp That's all my English It is not about saving time running the script. What we have in folders now: 1. 8 files for IE. 2. 2 files for DirectX. 3. 19 hotfixes for integration (I don't integrate Media Player 9). 4. 2 hotfixes with new binaries. That's Ok. But I meant to run a script (it may be a separate one from hslip.cmd) and getting ONE file that includes all these 31 items wich will be easier to store in a safe place Next time MS issues a new hotfix, there will be only two files in the folders: 1. A new hotfix. 2. The file we created last time running the script. No time saving as we have to run one script twice. Maybe not much space saving as there will be mostly the same files as in all hotfixes but consolidated in one file. But it will be a ONE file, my personal Service Pack if you like that I store along with the distributive (SP4 is included) untill next time integrating and creating a new one to store. Anyway thank you for your time and for the script again! And for your patience Best regards, Oleg 2
  19. tommyp I didn't know that And as I said there maybe some more things I'm not aware of I meant not to add the files to the source at the first step but unpack all the updates/needed files in one directory and make a .cab or some other file for the future use. The second step may continue the process of repacking the source files and the files in this directory. Nothing will happen with the source - it shouldn't be bigger then just running the script as it's now. But one or a few files more will be created in a separate folder for the future use instad of hotfixes integrated this time (next time these hotfixes maybe replaced by this file). Next time running the script with hotfixes in HF folder and a newly created file in say SP folder will mix the content of these two folders, creates the upated file again and the second step will do it's work. Or this file may be also placed in HF dirctory and treated as a hotfix. No issue at all, I'm a happy user of your script at the moment And it is not about the time. Just like to have one updated file instad of a large collection of files. Think it is more elegart Best regards, Oleg 2 PS Just thought: if the files from hotfixes will be extracted to the folder for the future use, is the time stamp still an issue? And the job may be done by a separate script?
  20. fdv Maybe you are right. I don't criticize tommyp, his script works fine. And I'm not a computer specialist, maybe I don't know some things that may influence the process like outdated and obsolate .cats for hotfixes that were replaced or something like this. But I'm still thinking that it is a bit convinient to have one file instad of a banch. Next time running script with this file and new hotfixes in corresponding folders may replace old entries with new ones. I suppose something like this happens when we apply a service pack or a hotfix. And a really big advantage of tommyp's script is that one can choose the hotfixes to be installed. This feature also can be used - one can choose to use a banch of hotfixes or one file created before along with new additions and new hotfixes. Best regards, Oleg 2
  21. tommyp That's Ok! Thank you for the script as it is right now anyway. There is not so much left to slipstream to Windows 2000. I have one more idea: - the quantity of hotfixes will be increasing during the time, there are already more then 50MB of recomended by you not including files for IE and DirectX; - one of the conditions for using your script is to use not altered source with SP4; - in order to use your script in future one has to collect all needed hotfixes and run the script on increased base again for getting the most upated source; - there are some hotfixes that just have some new binaries and there are a lot of not needed files in other hotfixes; - may I sugest to break the script on two parts: first part for working on all hotfixes and additional files creating one (or a few) half finished BIG hotfix(es) with only files that are really needed, and the second part of the script will integrate the resulting file (or files) into the source? Next time running the script we can use created file(s) along with the new hotfixes. Of cource, there is one more possibility if the script can be run on top of already slipstreamed source Best regards, Oleg 2
  22. tommyp About wireless control - maybe I'm wrong. I'm using wireless access myself but a friend of mine told me some time that he finds wireless access points with standard Win XP utilities, and I have to use 3d party programs like NetWork Stumbler or Boingo to find out if there any access points nearby and configure my wireless card for it. I tried to find this functionality on my collegue's notebook today (there is only one computer with XP in our office) but she doesn't have wireless card and I can't try. I'll check it with my friend later. Best regards, Oleg 2
  23. fdv Thank you for the advice with OEM folders. It worked for me either. But there were too many files and folders on my disk and I started to look for other options. I still use a self-extracting archive with the files I want to place in different locations with inf (run it from cmdlines.txt) - compression saves some space. It's not a problem, just a thought. I've tried the programm you recommended but will write you later this evening as I need to reinstall Windows (got some work to do Would it be suitable to ask in this topic for including one feature from XP to W2k - wireless control? Best regards, Oleg 2
  24. tommyp Just got an idea what can be useful addition to your script: I add some files to the source that are not dublicates in source but some small utilities like cdburn.exe or modifype.exe. After slipstreaming I have to add them manually to dosnet .inf and txtsetup.sif. It would be great for lazy persons to have a special folder for these files and a few lines in cmd for adding them automatically to dosnet.inf and txtsetup.inf. Best regards, Oleg 2
  25. tommyp Thank you man! I don't know what else could be slipstreamed except for some file-hacking and adding to Windows 2000 new features from other operating systems and third party programs but maybe you can add something like driver-slipstreaming? For example for SATA and RAID drives? Or you rethink about .NET Framework - I don't use it either at the moment but there are a few new interesting programs that need it and probably there will be even more such programs. fdv Your last set of files works fine and I see you found the way to open chm files or it is a bug with me again? And OE installs good from the source with changing msoe50.inf for one from your OE package and a little modifications in it and in syssetup.inf. But I still have a question: the new installation loads and shutdowns VERY long time. It took me a few hours to discover your tweak with cleaning paging file before shutdown and it is much faster now. But I can't find what takes it so long to start up? Is it a bug or is it the result of one more tweak? I understand these are for security reasons but it is not very comfortable with portable computers (especially when working on bataries Best regards, Oleg 2
