I played around with this one. There is no way to embed Microsoft Equation Editor objects in PowerPoint or Excel. You can, however, create your equations is Word and then paste them into either PowerPoint or Excel. It will be a floating object in Excel - meaning you cannot make embed it within a cell as far as I know. If you can live with it, it works.

The location for normal.dot is usually %userprofile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
-
If you are specifically referring to Excel, it has a function to lock cells or lock the whole document. I've never seen the lock icon that you mention. Word has a template called Normal.dot. I'm not sure if templates can be "locked" but it could be. You can try to search and delete normal.dot. Word will create a new one so this is safe. for excel, I don't believe it uses a template.

It's actually not a "function" like the "if" and "sum" functions. What you're looking for is Data Validation. It's in the Data menu under Validation. It's not straightforward how to do it in Excel but what you have to do is type the content of the pull down in different cells. For example, if you want five items in drop down, such as item 1, item 2, item 3, item 4, and item 5, then type that is cells, say F1, F2, F3, F4, and F5. then click on the cell were you want the pull down menu, say cell C2. Then go to data validation. then click on "LIST" under allow. Then choose the range, e.g. F1 to F5.

Defragmenting your Hard Drive(s)
spacesurfer replied to Shindo_Hikaru's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
This argument can go on and on... I'm no expert compared to you guys but to me, it makes sense that the more you use your hard drive, the more wear and tear you put on it. Kind of like a car. The more mileage on a car, the more wear and tear and the less efficiently it runs. I think defragmenting tooooo often, like daily, would put a lot of wear and tear. I can't say I can back it up, but it makes sense logically. I defrag only when I need to. I keep everything organized in the first place in different partitions. I also use Ghost 2003 to restore system partition which does a good job of placing files contiguously while restoring... just ask Andromeda83. -
I tried this program and I really wonder if the drive usage meter is dynamic. I couldn't find where any program was monitoring the drive usage. Will continue to check it out.

Which Brand USB Flash Drive Do You Use?
spacesurfer posted a topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
These things are so common now and many probably have more than one. Which one do you primarily use, trust? I have two: a Sandisk 512 mb cruzer and a cheap 1 Gb no brand that I bought for playing around, e.g. setting up BartPE on it. I would vote for Sandisk since that's the one I rely on for my data moreso than the no-brand. -
how exactly do you use it for sudoku?

Daunting? Well at first it might be but it's a great program with many possibilities. Some that you'd think you had never seen before. I even made my amortization schedule on my house loan with it with it's functions. You can't let Excel daunt you. It takes little steps to learn it.

getting unattended office to automatically install off cd
spacesurfer replied to hhhhbk's topic in Microsoft Office
Do you have a rewritable cd? If so, you can use it to test it. If not, do you have an ISO creator such as UltraISO, PowerISO? You can make an ISO and mount it as a drive. PowerISO has a built-in ISO mounter. UltraISO does not. You command looks OK, however. I'm not sure about the /autorun switch in open=start.cmd /autorun. I've need seen '/autorun' used. -
Add/slipstream SATA drivers - A fully working solution
spacesurfer replied to Anderz's topic in Device Drivers
I've seen directions similar to this here and the Beginner's PC site. It's a thorough guide to adding your mass storage drivers to the txtsetup.sif file. I've used it since for my ITRAID but it doesn't work for HPT 370/372. I think problem is HPT uses two files: hptpro.sys and hpt3xx.sys and it's not clear how you specify these two files. Good luck. -
I can't exactly remember but it's either F9 or Shift+F9 or Ctrl+F9. Try those and see what works.

I've had a similar problem protecting word documents. For some reason, it wants me to download Windows rights management. On other computers, it seems to work alright. I don't know what's causing this.

I'm not sure what ibook is but if is has an export function, you can export your list as a comma separated values file, called CSV file. Outlook can import CSV files. I believe all you have to do is use the clip organizer included in office 2003. Copy your clips to your hard drive and automatically search for clipart from within clip organizer.

record a macro using a fake word. then edit the macro and make as many copies of the script as there are words you need to replace. Then change each case of the fake word with the word you need. Then run the macro and it will go though all of the words and highlight them.
-
It's simple. First, select your highlight color. Next, go Edit --> Replace. Enter the text you want to highlight in the find what. In replace with, enter the text again and then click on more. click on format. select highlight.

I have Ghost 2003 with USB, Firewire, and CD-ROM support--all on a floppy. I love it...it's my best cause it's all on a floppy. I used to use Reatogo but it loaded very very slowly and I figured I can use Bart's PE Builder with XPE plugin and get what I wanted. So, I switched to BartPE with Sherpya's XPE plugin.. and the plugins are have are: MS Office 97, NAV Prescan 2005, Ghost 8.0, UltraISO, WinImage, Winrar, HD Tune, Ad-aware SE, Adobe Reader 7. I have used UBCD before but it's the same as BartPE with a bunch of plugins that you probably don't need. I abandoned it. I also have a Acronis disk director 10 boot CD for repartitioning.

what registry setting did you use? I had a similar problem on a wide screen laptop.

I use it at work for drug-drug compatibility in same IV bag. At home, I use it for analyzing my income, taxes, etc. and bills. I export data from MS Money. At my temple, I use it for managing the thousands of stones that are being used in the construction of our new temple - it's made of marble and sandstone and each stone is numbers, from smallest to biggest. I learned a whole lot of Excel from doing this than I have ever since I started using Excel.
